no honest tool fan will put fear inoculum as their favorite song. most fans never believed another album would actually come out. and fear inoculum was a slow build up of familiar tool sounds to get them excited.

Hardcore Tool fans are more pseudointellectual than Metallica or JBieb fans though. All they listen to other than Tool is shit like Slipknot and Puddle of Mudd so when a polyrhythm gets busted out they lose their minds and assume Maynard's lyrics are as deep as they perceive the music to be.
I like Tool but they aren't the best at anything they do. Just a decent band with every member doing their job well.

What album would you recommend for somebody who has never heard any Tool?

He's an incredible drummer but I think Blake Richardson, Gavin Harrison, and Portnoy are better.

Biggest issue I have with tool is i find them straight up boring and repetitive. Also I enjoy music with more lyrics. Good on them for having such a die hard fanbase and still remaining relevant for the past 20 years

They're all superb drummers.
Whoever you like more comes down to personal preference at this point.

it's good to listen to the albums in sequence. you can hear how much their sound evolved over the years. not necessary though.
