Don’t worry, another recession is coming soon
that aint goth
We didnt have instagram to tell us how to dress back then, we were free and real man. I feel bad for ya lol twerps
anything post 1998 isnt goth, its emo
totally different, emo just copied the look
goth is closer to 1980s punk in attitude than emo.
in fact goth started as part of punk, it splintered off without the pro-nazi shavedhead whitepower aspect.
thats why goth is all long hair & black suits, not shaved & bleached double denim.
emo is along way from both. like whatever
it's the same thing faggot
You had Kerrang! which in many ways was much worse.
would have been cool if it wasn't a bland commercial pseudo-counterculture
YES, my ex had those "wings" and hair like the girl to the left.
FUCK, I remember walking her to class, and to her house and listening to the Strokes and Arctic Monkeys. Cooked me meals, played video games, and drove me around in her Volester.
Damn, 9/10, loose clothes teased her tight curvy body. Tight pussy too.
Ok, I'm done, good night.
That was my gf you helped her cheat on me
you had fucking myspace and hot topic, you lying retard
>anything post 1998 isnt goth, its emo
I remember goths being quite big in early 2000's. Somewhere during that last wave of mainstream metal.
I remember lots of chicks with Lacrimosa merch that were hating on HIM and explaining everyone that true goths are from 80's.
Maybe it wasn't as big as it was in 90's, but early 00's goths were definitely a thing here.
>t. zoomer with no fucking clue.
fuck off back to insta
>true goths are from 80's
goths started in the 1970s desu so.....
>power drills are literally the same thing as bananas
>goths started in the 1970s desu so.....
Lol, I was kind of metalhead back then, so I'm not really competent (My gf was into that stuff tho). I only remember that they all praised The Sisters of Mercy and hated mall goths. And were doing that lame photoshoots in late 00's. World without social media was kind of fun sometimes..
Very, very late 1970's. Basically 80's. Stop being pedantic.
nice nice
Goth started with Siouxsie Sioux.
>goths
>punx
>emos
all the same gay shit 2bh
1979 isn't really the 70s anymore
Being a goth working as a DJ in 2001 in goth/punk niteclubs there was a distinct difference. I would definitely point toward Numetal/Thrashmetal/industrial/hardEDM for post 1998 goths. During the grunge era mid 90s goth scenes died off almost completely. Thats how you get a very distinct gap with totally different tastes in music & dress. Goths do not dress like the chicks in OPs photo.
>rational numbers
>fantasy dwarves
>algae
all the same gay shit *twitter negro slang*
they're all dumb teen subcultures you can buy at the mall
goths got into alternative rock, grunge and industrial in the mid 1990s and blended into that alternative rock "scene"
where as punk continued on its own path and never died away and stayed the course
So are your entire lifestyle, worldview, tastes, opinions and most deeply-held beliefs. Does that make you goth?
Also no, you couldn't buy the goth subculture at the mall. You could buy the mallgoth subculture at the mall, hence the name.
pretty sure you could buy cure albums and fishnet tops at the mall
From what little real-life knowledge I got of actual goths who went through the 90s, they did not get into alt rock or grunge, they got into electronic music.
i was going to state the same, but i was trying not to be total pedant
sure but could you get your hair backcombed at the mall hairdresser?
if you've got the money sure why not, just go to supercuts
early to mid 90s goth tastes were into
white zombie
killing joke
depeche mode
ministry
pantera
janes addiction
faith no more
type o
the cult
the cure
the output of these bands are all closer to alt rock/metal than anything except ministry, who almost invented/pushed industrial on their own
>butt rock
>butt industrial
unironically based
thats my point - it was butt rock music at the time, but it was listened to by goths & also charted as popular music for the era.
its not a definitive hardcore goth list (sisters of mercy, HIM, alien sex fiend, etc). its just to show how at the time mid 90s some goth acts morphed into alt rock and was popularised and were top 20 pop. A time when goth lost its underground niche for the time.
everyone (normies included) loved the cure, loved NIN, everyone got into gothy music together with the grunge scene. go back and look at the charts in US/UK/AUS from 91-96
>white zombie
Yeah no, not a goth crowd at all. I saw WZ in the clubs in Hollywood, it was NOT goth.
>killing joke
Male goths. Too hard for girl goths.
>depeche mode
Standard issue for suburban goths
>ministry
Nope. Ministry was industrial.
>pantera
Not even remotely goth, they were drawing the metal crowd from day one. Literally laughed out loud when I read this.
>janes addiction
Kind of. The Jane's crowds I saw in LA before the first album were a mix of everyone.
>faith no more
LOL. Nope.
>type o
Correct, although most of the girls wanted to see Peter's rumored enormous package.
>the cult
Until they toured with GnR, who brought in the rockers
>the cure
Standard issue for suburban goths
Goths (mostly girls) I knew in the 90's were into The Smiths, Morrissey, Depeche, The Cure, Sisters Of Mercy, Gene Loves Jezebel, Love and Rockets, and crossover into bands like Garbage. Dude goths would get into bands like Cradle of Filth, but would have gotten their asses kicked at a Pantera show.
i wasn't arguing with you, and i actually like those bands
That feel when no urban jew goth gf who lives in a studio apartment
I may sound like a boomer, but I honestly miss times when teens dreamed about becoming a rockstars and not youtubers or instagram influencers.
>The Smiths, Morrissey
>goth
get the fuck out...lel
morrissey hated the goth scene
Then it would scare you to know that 80s goths listened to Ozzy & Metallica as well
No, they didn't, I was there. One of the benefits of being old as fuck is knowing when anons here are full of shit.
And I got to see Metallica in the clubs. That's why I laugh, because I know the denim army would have thrown goths out of the club by their shittily died hair.
i wasnt arguing with desu. :)
wanna make out
Sure but I be the boy and you be the girl?
okay that's fair
a goth would never attend a metallica "club" gig dressed in black you moron. they would wear bog standard denims & a black metal shirt.
besides they started playing arena shows by the late 80s. you gonna pick out sub-cultures in a crowd of 30k people at a stadium concert? riiiight.
just like a demin cut off sleeve jacket wearing mertal head wouldnt be caught dead at sisters of mercy "club" gig, or a fukcing ice-T "club" gig.
and yet metallica fans loath the black album. u know the one true metallica fans dislike
when they pandered to the other fanbase
when they went slightly gothy & mainstream
enter sandman is the gothiest goth metal song ever released in 1991. moreso than the Cult could ever manage to write at the time.
Based "hoped for album" desu
>janes addiction
>Kind of goth
Just look at this faggot.
Google his pic its all 99% Goth/emofag
It's glam goth, totally acceptable to rockist normies
The discussion was how emo isnt early to mid 90s goth, which blurred with metal into the the popular alt rock scene at the time.
Navarro is just an over-tatted eyeline wearing fag these days
I had one, she was messy and childish.
I thought a lot of them got into darkwave and its offshoots.
>ministry
>Not goth. Ministry was industrial.
Oh FFS.
Early industrial was essentially goth at the time. 90s industrial = 90s goth
mispost
>ministry
>Not goth. Ministry was industrial.
Oh FFS.
Early industrial was essentially goth at the time. 90s industrial = 90s goth
This, industrial itself is pretty much a tributary of the goth subculture at the time, even though they were distinct before the 90s they had completely merged by then.
And proof....Nine Inch Nails
Only Marilyn Manson stopped Trents industrial success reign as "king of the goths" at the time.
Also how is White Zombie not condered fucking 90s goth. Thats also 90s industrial ffs.
>And proof....Nine Inch Nails
>Only Marilyn Manson stopped Trents industrial success reign as "king of the goths" at the time.
Yes. Of the mallgoth bands that I grew up with only NIN and Smashing Pumpkins were the ones I was really into. The 90s transition into the 2000s was def sort of weird though. Too much nu metal.
TIL that 20ninescene is kind of real thing. And there's people on interwebs that are posting scene-era style photos. Postirony is strong here. I would never imagined that mall-emos would grow into some kind of real underground culture.
i was going to mention smashing pumpkins in my list but metalfag would have roasted it as being >too alt rock than goth, maybe grunge"
kek
i wouldnt have a discussion about metal with the dude (obvs) but he's also an expert at goth/industrial. fuck i helped to run goth/industrial clubs in my city for fucking years around the millenium
>not larping
>but metalfag would have roasted it as being >too alt rock than goth, maybe grunge"
Yeah but that's really not true, before they were an arena rock band they tried doing the whole Cure imitation thing, and my favorite period of theirs is when they dropped the distortion and went full on gloom on Adore.
i saw em whenever they last toured. if anything bald billy looked liked an extra from the movie hellraiser. i think he's leaned even further toward a goth look the older he gets
here's that look
gross
who is she?
I had one and I lost my virginity to her at a roller skating rink
was she older than you?
goth started with nico
yes... how did you know?
these girls always smelled and were caked in cheap makeup
>who is she?
Some attention loving chick from instagram. I just reverse searched it
instagram.com
Whoa...they're onto us?
Don't worry. The recession never ended if you aren't Jewish.
>>/pol/
yes it did
no it didnt, btw like most early goth siouxsie & the banchees were considered a punk band
