2020 is almost here Yea Forums. Looking back, what are some of your favorite albums of the 2010s?
This one's a strong contender for me. I know the 80s revivalism bullshit would be done to death later on in the decade but this is one of the few albums that did it tastefully. Super comfy and not quite as masturbatory as some of Bejar's other stuff.
set the standard for all the hard-nosed, electrified, pseudo-industrial rap music that followed honestly hardcore, but catchy the greatest nu metal album, one decade after that genre died and thematically geisty, too
one of the decade's finest pure pop records. sincerely youthful, lyrically juvenile (but not necessarily immature) minimalist, ever-so-slightly-electro-hop production that is so quintessential of this cursed generation's aesthetic
A reunion album from a group that hadn't been together since the 90's. Its a testament to their legacy and friendship. It also has some of the best Tribe production on any of their albums.
This is easily one of the best of the decade. The lyrics melt in my mouth, and it’s probab Bejar’s masterpiece Agreed on your sentiments here
Pic-Related is my favorite. It’s really hard to describe but it’s helped me through a really tough traumatic time. Amen Dunes is one of the best bands out there imo but nobody talks about them. Love is also a masterpiece
this is the pinnacle of the DIY band camp thing this decade was so into. his other stuff too, but this one's my fav. tracks like harvey and black hair are were just such a breath of fresh air after like the whole "diy music is just lofi sound quality and heavy reverb" thing from like 07 to 13
this is definitely up there honestly the production is so great on tracks like suicide demo and bay of pigs that it doesn't even matter how cheesy it is in theory, it just feels like ear candy and the lyrics are some of his best for sure
i'd say def one of the best like big pop releases
yes most def like that album is the perfect closing note for them, it's such a great modern adaptation of their sound. it like evolves into the 2010s but keeps their classic jazzy stuff well in the mix. plus like every dream tribe feat you could ever ask for with kendrick and paak
i really really love like 5 songs on that record more than most things but the other half really doesn't do much for me. def some of his best work on there though, love the guitar stuff especially on all i want
1. Jim O'Rourke - Simple Songs 2. Thee Silver Mt. Zion Memorial Orchestra - Fuck Off Get Free We Pour Light on Everything 3. Deftones - Koi No Yokan 4. Mac DeMarco - Here Comes The Cowboy 5. Joanna Newsom - Have One on Me 6. Fang Island - Fang Island 7. Glassjaw - Coloring Book 8. Shintaro Sakamoto - Let's Dance Raw 9. Father Figure - 死の手 10. Yellow swans - going places
god bless this beautifully lush work of art. each time i listen to this it i feel like i'm transported to a magical fairy land or some shit. love the way everything feels drowned out.
good shit. if we're talking emo revival stuff i'm gonna have to go with whenever, if ever. it's not even the band's best album but it's the one that got me into the scene and eventually snowing, algernon, etc.
Blake Scott
this decade was probably the worst decade for music in a long time barely any good big releases i guess this one is pretty good
Comment means a lot. Thanks, and yeah I have a hard time picking between Freedom and Love. Both of them hit different sweet spots. Great albums >Silver Mt. Zion >Shintaro Sakamoto >Jim O’Rourke Yeah are based my friend
Tyler Harris
>lyrically sharp, observant rather than preachy or glorifying of the gangster/street life - good bars AND flows >forward-thinking but grounded production >vocally dynamic (for a reason, e.g. rapping from his childhood perspective), doesnt get obnoxious like his later work >good mix of "bangers" and slower, R&B-influenced tracks >none of the indulgent, hyper-conscious wankery of TPAB >a legitimate hip-hop concept album; takes on a tried subject (life in Compton) and makes it fresh
forgot about this album, great stuff
if you had to pick one Holter album from the 2010s, what would it be? Im inclined to go with Have You In My Wilderness but Ekstasis has a lot of sentimental value
lukewarm take here, this album is probably the best thing that came out of the late 2000s/early 2010s Brooklyn hipster scene, it's even made by upper-class Jews
