I can’t I just fucking can’t listen to new music...

I can’t I just fucking can’t listen to new music. I hate being shallow but my brain won’t let me enjoy anything new and I’ve looked this shit up man that’s not how the brain works so how the fuck can’t I do this shit? It’s not like I don’t like music it’s just I’ve been so shallow in my tastes for so long man I don’t think hunk I can enjoy new shit anymore. Someone please help me. Is it the mood I’m in, the setting, the audio quality, how is it? Please help me I am genuinely angry right now

It also pissed me off that it took me way too long to find the right pic for this situation

What do you like to listen to right now?

For some reason I have a hard time seriously enjoying anything that came out post 2017 despite there not being any real decline in quality.

Radiohead albums 2,3,4, kings of Leon, the first wu tang album (only one I’ve heard) this band called bell x1, random hits from the 80’s, arctic monkeys except for AM, the album epicus doomicus metallicus and some other hip hop. I would say more but that’s just the stuff I could really remember right now that I genuinely enjoy quite a bit

this makes 0 (ZERO) logical sense

this is all pretty shit, but that's besides the point.
I'd say the thing here is that if you don't want to listen to new music then you wont bother listening to new music. If you did want to listen to and discover new music then you would actively do so. There's no reason to say you WANT to if you don't want to. If you WANTED to then you would force yourself through it until you found new stuff that you liked

Then listen to some plunder phonics when they make something new with old samples, this makes it sound gritty and soulfull unline a lot of new super clean production that sorounds us everywhere

I do want to listen to new music, and I try to listen to what I get recommended, but I end up having to turn it off halfway through the album that I sit down and force myself to listen to

Stop listening to what people recommend you and stop asking for recommendations. Recommendations are a shitty way to discover new music if you are getting them from this site. Go use spotify's discover weekly thing

GOD no not this site like people on discord.

even worse

I keep getting recommended shit by people. The only halfway decent band I got recommended was Interpol and even then I can’t listen to all of TOTBL without getting confused and angry

Like I said, stop listening to stuff that people recommend you. Discovering music is something you should be doing on your own time (if you really want to discover new music that is). Go read some articles/interviews on bands you like and find stuff they listen to, go listen to that. Go read the wikipedias of bands you like and find what other bands the various members are in, go listen to those. If you ever hear any good songs you like in the background of any videos/movies/documentaries go find out what they are and who made them, then go check out those artists.
Anything like this is a better way to discover music than recommendations. I discovered lots of great artists this way

That makes a lot of sense. I think I am trying too hard to like the things I think I should like, and what the other people say is really good.

that's why I also mentioned the spotify discover weekly, it's not as helpful once you taste is more refined but if you're just starting out it is very useful. Just go through it and listen to all the songs, save any you like (come back and check out the bands that made them of course) and skip the ones you don't like. There's no pressure from anyone else to like the stuff or dislike it and it's a bit more specifically tailored to what you listen to than random recommendations.

Thanks guy

Don't forget RYM is a great tool to discover new stuff

don't trust random discord people
i know first-hand they almost always give you shitty music suggestions
what i like to do to find weird artists is i just go to wikipedia, look up a genre, go to the list of notable artists in this genre, click on a random one that catches my eye, and then read the page to see if it's something i should bother listening to
wikipedia has some surprisingly obscure artists on there; the only major thing it's missing is all those little bandcamp bands, but most of those suck anyways

ok so i'm going to ramble a bit. when I started getting into music I forced myself to listen to a lot of music. it's not that I didn't like it, it was more like it didn't make me feel anything so I would usually lose interest halfway through. it was like that with most music but there were a few songs that I did like. I latched into those songs to look for more similar things and at the same time kept forcing myself to listen to other stuff people talked highly about because I wanted to understand them. it has happened to me many times that suddenly I remember some part of a song from one of those albums that I was indifferent towards years ago and go back to it and then it just clicks and I end up loving it. what i'm trying to say is that you shouldn't get frustrated about not liking everything, or whatever seems "cool". getting your own taste and appreciation for music takes a while but it shouldn't be chore, it should be something you enjoy doing. keep listening to new music you feel you don't get but if you feel it's just not clicking just leave it and come back later. go on pandora or spotify and let the algorithms recommend you stuff. for real, it doesn't matter how "basic" some music is, if you enjoy it then you should feel happy because probably not everyone can appreciate it.

also, check out the Yea Forumscore chart, there's tons of stuff that's good and really accessible in there.
