i usually like putting on one of my favorite city pop records, something like Tatsuro Yamashita - For You or Toshiki Kadomatsu - After 5 Clash, usually strikes a chord with people while simultaneously having the social side effect of letting people know i've got different tastes in music. despite the lyrics being in Japanese, Americans have a surprising fetishization with Japanese culture so most are usually more accepting of it than i'd expect
