how does one get into the zap?
How does one get into the zap?
Get an album and listen to it, then listen to the rest
I started with one of the worst albums (Chunga's), it doesn't matter
from the beginning like with any other artist.
bro just look him up, play a few songs, and see how you like the music. Ain't no magic formula to this shit.
one does not
hot rats
He's one of those artists where you've either heard everything he's ever done or you haven't heard enough. Just pick something and listen to it.
His live albums are best. He's got a shitload of them though.
Chunga's Revenge is not a bad album, bro.
you don't he fucking sucks
Not at all, but FZ has so many great albums that overshadow it
I got into him with the strictly commercial recopilation album
Uncle Meat
Getting into Zappa is like this; You'll listen to one of his more cohesive albums, like Hot Rats or We're Only In It for the Money, and then find traces of what you liked about it scattered all across his discography.
Yeah I've dissed Zappa before, but his music has a unique aesthetic that is sprawling, chaotic, whimsical and ugly, and I honestly just get such a rush out of it.
The guy lacked quality control for sure, but that's both a good and bad thing.
I don't understand the point of his music.
this is what’s prevented me from REALLY getting into his music. mostly just the ugly aesthetic it really puts me off. It’s weird because all of those other qualities my favorite artists all have but it’s just the way it’s all packaged and presented that doesn’t quite reach me. but i know many people who’s opinion i respect who say he’s brilliant and I don’t doubt them. One day I’ll appreciate him
Will this album cover get him canceled 26 years after his death?
why did this make me giggle
Freak Out! is very accessible if you only stick to the first half
For the King Crimson fans...Belew is on Sheik Yerbouti
>friend wants me to listen to an album with him
>suggests the Zap
>Never heard him before personally
>Tell him Apostrophe because that's regarded as his classic I heard
>he tells me it sucks
>tells me we're listening to Chunga's
>it's garbage
>tfw I was sure the Zap is shit tier because my friend is autistic
No because it's not supposed to be blackface but just oil because he's working on a garage or something like some real manly fella
"Joe's Garage Acts II & III was released in November 1979, with cover art depicting a makeup artist applying blackface makeup to Zappa's face."
not entirely wrong
Lumpy Gravy and Hot Rats to start.
Then whatever
Sheik Yerbouti is a fun one. It's wacky Zappa at his best. Bobby Brown is where it's at
Yeah but it's bottom half Zappa
