What is the appeal of buying CDs? I don't get it.

You can achieve the exact same thing by simply copying the music to a CDR, printing out the covers and putting them in a generic jewel case. They sound exactly the same as digital. What makes CDs special?

its fun to collect, i like to sift through cds in record stores its a ton of fun for me

the cover looks better
not every cd is on the internet
to support the artist

this, one of my favorite things to do is to go to the local record store by my house and pick out a new cd to listen to in the car and at home

CDs are glass mastered and CDr's fall apart quickly

thats based, i dont have that money so i just buy something off a list

>printing out the covers
Most of the time the interior of the booklet isn't available.

Gen x/boomers who can't hook an iPhone up to the aux

people don't know how to use the aux? I thought they made them convenient enough.

Newer generations will be ignorant to the aux as more cell phone companies remove the feature.

but the iPhone doesn't have a headphone jack anymore.... and Samsung is doing the same.

You actually own the media, it's a physical item, more convenient then vinyl.

cds are so cool

its like vinyl but cheaper

The big advantage of purchasing a physical medium over downloading is that if you can sell it if you don't end up liking it.

Also, collecting things is fun. Also, going to record stores is fun, especially if you go with a friend (I know that's hard to imagine for a lot of you). Also, I feel more invested when I buy a physical copy. Also, it pisses zoomers off.

I would agree with you except pretty much everything that came out in Japan from the 80s exist only in the form of CDs

>You actually own the media
Very good point.

I wish I had kept my 1000's of CDs instead of falling for the digital meme.

>They sound exactly the same as digital
lol
Ok 320kbpsfag
Just know that bitrates exist and that your ears are probably filled with wax if you can't tell the difference.

>copying the music to a CDR

CD - R's deteriorate way quicker than regular CDs. If you do that your collection won't last longer than 20 years.

Then you can just burn new copies of them.

OR (hear me out here) you buy one CD instead of buying multiple CD-Rs

100 CD-Rs are under 20 bucks. Plus, your CD will eventually degrade and when it does, you're sol where I can just burn a new copy.

At least I'll be dead before that happens because it takes so fucking long.

Digital files like mp3s degrade over time and if you put them on CDs they degrade even faster on there. Don't do it it'll destroy music

My car doesn't have aux or bluetooth, so CDs are my only option for music outiside of radio shit. This has now led to a building a neat collection from occasionally sifting through the CD section of a Goodwill looking for something interesting amongst all of the disposable new-age, adult contemporary, Kidz Bop, worship music, etc that Boomers always donate.

The best cd I found at a goodwill was Sonic Youth - Sister for $1

cds are for chads and records are for virgins

Neat that it can be the final form of the medium. CD quality is totally lossless and will never be a limiting factor to mastering. They're also fairly robust, you can keep them in your car for decade and pop it in for a roadtrip.

Fun leafing through the album art too.

I got a smooth setup to rip, tag, and convert to opus for my phone too.

This was me for a while. Thankfully Ontario has a decent used cd chain that categorizes and ships them around the province for cheap.

Found an aftermarket adapter for my car now, so my cds have been collecting some dust.

>At least I'll be dead before that happens because it takes so fucking long.
CDs can start to suffer from bit rot within 20 years. If oyu only buy factory new shit, then it's not a concern I guess? But a lot of the older stuff is already starting to fail.

Very nice find, that would make my day if I found some Sonic Youth. Here's my favorite shit I've found thus far

AFI - All Hallow's EP
The Aphex Twin - Classics
Broken Social Scene - s/t
Cocteau Twins - Treasure
Daisy Chainsaw - Love Sick Pleasure
Mazzy Star - So Tonight That I Might See
The Refreshments - Fizzy Fuzzy Big & Buzzy

I occasionally buy cds, but I like burning mp3 cds so I can have several albums on tap without having to dick around with my phone or radio. I can let it go and pick up where I left off. It's a great way to get familiar with music in this ADHD clown world.

Plus CDs sound better than the highest quality streaming

Are you either too poor or too retarded to spend $10 on an adapter?

CDs are the cheapest way to buy lossless music
Often they're even cheaper than buying an MP3 digital download because retailers want to get rid of old stock

I haven't been here in years but I genuinely wouldn't be surprised if there are still people here stupid enough to think this is what "lossy" means.

Actually it's the other way around. Putting data on a disk makes it susceptible to velocity induced bit detachment. When you have a disk spinning at high speed for a very long amount of time the bits eventually dislodge themselves. This isn't really a problem with CDs because they're only spinning when you're playing that album, but with a harddrive all of your music is spinning whichever album your playing, or even when you're doing other things on your computer.
You can mitigate this somewhat by making a partition at the very end of your drive and putting all your music there (so it's right near the center of the disk where there's lower rotational velocity), but CDs are still the safest option.

CDs are really refined and often are higher quality than even remastered streaming, especially if it's recorded for the CD.

>like vinyl

no

nononononono

cd is like spotify / digital, vinyl is like vinyl.
