When I was 13 I saw the lyrics to Hooker With a Penis and I thought that was pretty cool so I picked up the album and then I listened to it all the time even though my friends at the time made fun of me for it.

Pretty great song. Wasn't sure what to think on first listen, I guess I was expecting something heavier, but I like the mix of zoned out snd hypnotic that very slowly builds snd then stops before it gets too crazy, I think with the songs that come in before snd aftrr it on the album it'll make sense.

When I was young teenager I saw the music video for Schism on TV. I was mesmerised and curious, I was into art at school and the aesthetics was really similar to what I was into; surreal and grotesque forms juxtaposed with beauty. I was hooked ever since I started listening to their full discog.

After repeated listens of the new single, I think it’s “okay.” Nothing great but nothing bad. I am still excited for the album though. My favorite album is Ænima because I dig Third Eye.

Keep in mind a lot of Zoomers were not ALIVE for Tools last album and Millennials have been waiting half their lives sometimes. TOOL has to basically rebuild its fanbase from scratch here except for the 40+ crowd.

AEnima is the clear winner.
After that, it's close. Sometimes I prefer the rawness of Undertow, sometimes I'm more in the mood for the slow-burn of Lateralus. 10k Days is probably the weakest studio album, but it definitely has its moments. Salival is also very good.
Opiate is trash.

I listened to Tool after listening for a long time to APC. I got to known them *after* APC, in fact I thought Tool was like a second side project. I was attracted to them because of the more aggressive guitars and lyrics. Hooker with a penis and Ænema did it for me, those made me prefer Tool over APC, tho Tool is just sadder and more frustrating (in regards to song lyrics) than APC.

Undertow was released when I was a sophomore at a time when everyone was into pearl jam and nirvana. I really liked the departure from the norm. A few years later I saw them perform live and the intensity blew me away. I've seen tool live about 40 times over the last 20 years and nothing compares.

Yeah don't get me wrong MJK, Reznor et al are clearly degenerate scum, despite good music I'd see them all hung from the rafters for their sins. However the people who involve themselves with these people are typically scum as well.

I think the point of statutory rape laws is that some people are not eligible or experienced enough to be "scum" or make decisions which make them "scum" in certain situations -- e.g. when a much older international celebrity is plucking teenagers en masse out of the audience and using them for sex.

I don't think they were selecting from the toddlers in attendance at their gigs. Even if they were 15, at that age you know what going to meet the band backstage means and even if you don't when they ask you to take enemas you might catch on. A highschool friend of mine showed me a few of their songs (46 & 2, Sober, Schism) at a time when I was learning bass and primarily listening to punk music. It was so vastly different to anything I'd heard before that my tastes did a complete 180 and I spent several years delving down the prog-rock rabbit hole.

Fifteen years later, I'm not expecting to be blown away by the new record due to overexposure to the band and their knock-offs. I'm sure it'll be pleasant and nostalgic nonetheless, though.
