Why are there no famous or notable music video directors like there are famous and notable film directors?

Because all music videos suck. Prove me wrong
pro-tip: You can't
Because music videos are just a complement to another art form wich is music, while films are an art form on their own.
Spike Jonze
I mean, there kind of used to be. When I was a kid McG and Spike Jonez were relatively famous. No one really watches music videos anymore.
are you retarded?
>Spike Jonze
Huh. I didn't know he did music videos too. But I meant directors who only do music videos.
Hype Williams
the best ones do both

I'm gonna be honest I did no research before posting the OP.
A lot of guys start their career doing music videos, David Fincher most notably. Nobody wants to do them forever, though. Except apparently Mark Romanek, who directed One Hour Photo, which I think is great, but then decided to just go back to music videos again.
>tfw no qt Scandinavian gf
Chris Cunningham, Spike Jonze, Hiro Murai (and especially his DP Larkin Seiple)
>the music video has a minute long intro
>the music video interrupts the song in the middle for a "hilarious" skit featuring the band members
>the music video adds sound effects to the song that aren't in the original recording
she’s Finnish, not sc*ndi
cole bennett
Isn't Finland Scandinavian
Money.
Movies are a bigger business, therefore names matter more.
Really good point. That's a shame though. There should be more incentive for people to make great and creative music videos, given how little we get today.
Because music videos are a dead medium, before you were born (probably) music video was important media for the masses.
See: spike jonze
What's the appeal of MV's? I want them once if I'm infatuated with the band, but that's about it. I don't want my tunes occupying my eye space.
>mfw I'm watching a truly great music video
What music videos make you guys do a MFW? For me it's the Rio music video by Duran Duran.
It's subjective, but I like it when music videos aren't just of the band playing the song and when they tell a neat story that goes well with the music. It's like a mini-movie that recontextualizes the music without destroying your own interpretation of it.
i like music videos because they tend to be a lot more creative visually than most movies or tv shows. you can get a lot more abstract when you don't have to worry about conventional storytelling.
>mfw any Bengalfuel music video
no
Romain Gavras has some pretty good work. He directed no church in the wild and some stuff for Justice and M.I.A
Watch Tomorrow Comes Today
or 19-2000
like most are saying; spike jonze.
see freedom of ‘76
It’s so strange to be old and hear this perspective. Perfectly valid btw we are just from different eras.
Great example but is it because it’s great, or is it because it lets you touch the past for a brief vanishing moment? A lot of 1 hit wonders do that for me lol. Timbuk3’s video for “futures so bright” makes me wanna go to the first day of 5th grade.
>music video for a 4 minute song is 30 minutes long and absolute kino
Post it, you coward
>DUDE FAMOUS PEOPLE LMAO
