How do i get into jazz

i've been really wanting to look into jazz, especially weird alternative jazz stuff.
however, it's hard for me to find jazz that interests me because i normally don't particularly enjoy instrumental music, so i would preferably want vocal jazz.
i mainly listen to folk music, blues music, and a bunch of different genres of rock
any suggestions?
literally like the only jazz artist i like currently is frank sinatra.

Start with kind of blue, then move to Coltrane, then Branco put to Yakutsi Shimitzu

well then you answered your own question. if you don't enjoy instrumental music then you can listen to vocal jazz like frank sinara which you already listen to

The best advice I can give is you have to listen.

I'm a major jazz fan but to play jazz while you browse the web or something it just doesn't work, it never gets the job done for me.

Lie down on the floor, headphones on, close your eyes. That's the way to enjoy jazz.

If you get bored after one song, that's ok. Better listen to one song focused then one album while you are doing something else.

ewwy gooky

thank you for the suggestions

this is pretty great

i normally listen to music like this anyways
i find that i don't pay attention at all if i try to multi-task while listening to music

Listen to this.

Good on you, really, it's the way to do it.

Try Cannonball Adderley - somethin Else for a fine instrumental album

Try
Monica Zetterlund - Waltz for Debby
Chet Baker -bakers holiday

for fine vocal albums.
Also that Coltrane / Hartman album somebody posted earlier is complete killer.

i think i might check out the john coltrane & johnny hartman album as my first jazz album

this is fucking weird
i like it

scatman john

I'm seconding that other guy for the Bill Evans and Monica Zetterlund record too. I think, in your case, finding some very stylistically dense and progressive jazz with great improvisation and also a singer will get you to understand some more of it.

Why do you have that picture
Is your gf a Korean getting plastic surgery

Try literally anything by Ella Fitzgerald. Her concert in Berlin (Ella in Berlin: Mack The Knife) is a classic.
If you want more, you can listen to her Twelve Nights in Hollywood albums, they are great.
