What's the consensus on Aphex Twin here?

Also, what genre is pic related?
And feel free to recommend something similar.

>consensus
one of my favorites. seems to get a lot of contrarian backlash like the Beatles but no matter how far i go into electronic music i find very few artist who compare
>what genre
read the title
>similar
Try Tim Hecker or Brian Eno

if you're looking for similar, i recommend listening to your washing machine for an hour

isn't it electronic/ambient? i thought that was self explanatory, and that album is his best imo. underrated

the greatest innovator in electronic music ever, probably
>something similar
youtube.com/watch?v=PFAQrMWClOU

youtube.com/watch?v=sZ7Mu8YJbSU

Nobody does it like Richy Ambient works 2 is his best, love ever second of that masterpiece
The only other producer who sounds as unique as Aphex Twin is probably burial

>consensus
love/hate
>what genre
dark ambient

I thought it was a "type" of music, rather than a genre in itself.
I've heard a lot of "ambient" music, but nothing comes close to this in terms of style and quality.
Thank you!

absolute pleb

this is his best album imo but you gotta be into acid music and the 303 as an instrument honestly and spending some time fuckin around with an analog synth yourself truly lets you appreciate it
youtube.com/watch?v=Aloryfd5ipw

this is definitely his best work
this is my favorite track from him in general: youtube.com/watch?v=a4cX7iGM9y0

Trips dont lie

In the Warp Records big 3, he sits in between Boards of Canada (intensely nostalgic spooky electronic cult music with hip hop flavored drums) and Autechre (curated machine music that sounds inhuman at first but becomes more and more compelling the more you get used to it).

>Boards of Canada
Not even close baby

Aphex Twin are good in their own right.
My problem with them is how frequently some of their work is recommended to people looking for music similar to Boards of Canada on one hand, and on the other hand, other work of theirs recommended in ambient threads.
In both regards, they don't quite hit the mark and are therefore not the best example of artists in those styles, yet they get recommended over and over again far more than really solid albeit less well known bocuma and ambient artists.

>Try Tim Hecker or Brian Eno
again, it's always Aphex Twin, Tim Hecker and Brian Eno. What next, Autechre? Bengalfuel? Steve Reich? It's always the same fucking artists getting rec'd and nobody's actually broadening their horizons.

That's what Aphex Twin has been reduced to for me. They are symptomatic of the inability of people on Yea Forums to actively and independently seek out new and different music, an echo chamber of the same narrow pool of artists over and over and over and over again.

>Thinks Aphex Twin is two people
Lmao i dont think you should be replying to this thread. your reply outted you as a pseud

>aphex twin are
>problem with them

please be bait jesus christ the absolute state of Yea Forums

Your myopic music tastes put me off ever getting into Aphex Twin enough to actually find out anything about her.

>are
>their
>them
Oh boy

You can't see the wood for the trees, m8.

We know other lesser known ambient, the fact you dont know them makes u ill informed there’s no reason for us to expose you to something you’re clearly not ready for

Nothing wrong with rehashing quality artists, I happen to love Hecker and Bengalfuel and doesn't bother me to see them mentioned ad infinitum. Now Brian Eno, on the other hand: I've never liked their work. Eno are a band you can stop mentioning, they don't put out quality music.

Lol

Yea Forums practically never shows any awareness of ambient outside Aphex Twin, Tim Hecker and Brian Eno.

but fine, just so I'm not chatting shit about an artist I've barely explored, here are some recs for OP

pantheophania.bandcamp.com/album/in-love
biosphere.bandcamp.com/album/substrata (at least Yea Forums knows about this one)
weareallghosts.bandcamp.com/album/permutations-waag-rel105
voxxov-records.bandcamp.com/album/nimrod
faintmusic.bandcamp.com/album/pareidolia

I'll post more just want to bump the thread.

keep lurking faggot
>them
embarrassing lmao

electronic ambient

I'm trying to curate ones from my collection that are more similar to what I've heard of Aphex Twin, which isn't my usual stuff.

do you have anything more productive than to pull me up on fucking pronouns as if I'm supposed to know the people behind every single musical act you faggots dick ride

If you want to be le obscure contrarian atleast learn the syntax

You know, you had the chance to ignore them and appear above it all. Stop attacking others because YOU made a mistake. Take the L and move on with life dude.

If you know the music (as you profess to) you know the artist or artists behind it.
You got called out.
Whining about it only makes you look worse.

I love half life.

I've given OP more recs than the rest of the thread combined.
What point are you trying to prove by not giving OP recs, but picking me up on the only artist that OP already knows

Also OP if you can find this anywhere it's worth a listen

>tfw got tickets to see him in London and in Manchester next month

Can't wait lads, hopefully I can get right fucked up for it

No drops. Garbage "music"

Asc is pretty good have you heard Hank & Slim

Though I love aphex twin, I don't really see the point of watching him live.
Unless for the expressed purpose of finding some junkie qt slut.

funnily enough no, but I know of Rapoon, and Nocturnal Emissions sounds vaguely familiar. just didn't know those guys collabed, mainly cause I'm not that into their solo work.

>No drops
2/10 made me respond

based

some ambient does actually have drops.

Enjoy man! Anynore atmospheric dnb you’ve enjoyed you got me listening to Asc agin cohesion is fantastic

Like most acclaimed artists, some people here despise Aphex Twin for pure contrarism.

They'll most likely tell you that Autechre is better, which is fine. But I don't think they're that comparable. And Autechre is too much nerdy for my taste.

it's past your bedtime kid

boy it sure is summer in here

Apart from Aes Dana, H.U.V.A. Network, Pessimist, I can't think of much in that ballpark.
will try to remember more

well you just named four so

here's one more

it's kinda hard for me to find anything along the lines of "atmospheric dnb" in my collection that doesn't stray into trip-hop or future garage or some other genre.

thank you ill check these out im really into Burial d'cruze, goldie obviously and stuff like ltj buken

>I'm ashamed
No need.
In fact, absolutely based.

Aphex Twin is good, but certainly overrated, and his fanbase is competely ignorant on electronic/dance music.

SAWII is just ambient. Not dark ambient.

one last rec from me then I have to hit the hay

Thinnen
thinnen.bandcamp.com/album/others-vol-2

my man this has now become a burial thread

>I thought it was a "type" of music
what the fuck does that even mean you imbecile

good. at least I know more about burial than I (evidently) know about aphex twin. maybe after dropping some 2 dozen recs people will stop calling me a pseud summerfag.

it is called ambient. listen to bengalfuel and gas, they sound similar and are great. don't let contrarian-fags push you toward their shitty bandcamp pages.

a very broad term like simply calling any sub-genre of metal, metal

stiven is amazing loving this

>like simply calling any sub-genre of metal, metal
you mean rock, right?
