guys should i buy mint condition fender delux reverb or Mesa boogie express 5:25 (not plus) for same price? I want clean sound which can take lots of pedal effectively and versatile combo. please help this poor fellow.

>open up /gg/ >85% of the thread is gear posting
Gearposters are literally the equivalent of cumbrains.
Dominic Jones
And you're the equivalent of a kakabrain sambo
Gavin Murphy
Sambo is a retarded gearposter too all he does is talk about his shit gear and how everything costs 5x in brazil.
Robert Ward
And you're sambo
Elijah Sullivan
I live in the first world and don't push a wheel barrel in the jungle heat for $1 an hour begging for strings, sorry to burst your bubble I'm not that gorilla.
Caleb King
A local musician whose show I went to recently showed me his pedal board. He had two Boss EQ pedals. I asked him why and he said ones before the dirt and ones after and he usually uses both simultaneously. He didn't clarify further.
Is this just a meme or there's something to it? He sounded great.
Jeremiah Morgan
I know it is you sambo, fuck off
Evan Ward
Daily reminder that Fender is truly the every man’s/woman’s guitar that has everything you need. Hobbyist, armature or professional musician there is a level of quality and value for everyone.
Jcum is rewriting history. He's trying to make it look like his arch enemy samuel is the one pushing a wheelbarrow around a construction site all day instead of toiling in the local favela pet food shop.
Christopher Butler
It sounds pointless but if it works for him I guess, I can think of a lot of things I'd rather buy than a second EQ pedal
Ryder Garcia
He cute
Hunter Allen
Is there ever a reason to spend >$1500 on a guitar?
I notice around the $1200 mark you start seeing stainless steel frets and other quality of life improvements. Most guitars don't even have a soft case sub-$800 in my experience lately.
It’s probably like buying a luxury car, yea you have full leather interior and 400hp but it still takes you from A to B like a prius
Xavier Thompson
Do you count while playing? Or do you just feel it
Wyatt Garcia
It makes sense if you're a beginner when you don't know if you'll actually stick with the instrument plus I'm sure most people have done something retarded with their first guitar trying to experiment on it or just not taking care of it properly.
But if you're seasoned and have been playing for years then yeah $1200~ is about the spot where you get really good stuff and if you're the guy who's been playing for years and years but keeps buying cheap $400 or $500 guitars then unironically get a job.
Ryder Garcia
What's up goys? Post your pedals and other gear!!!
I'm in school with shit talking Strat guy and he was asking if he could play my Gibson Les Paul because there aren't too many places around here where he could try some out. I'm a not so nice guy so I bring it to class one day with my Marshall DSL20. >he plugged it in >played it for about 15 seconds >"D-damn.. that's a b-big step up right there!"
I'm not even making this up either, his life is irrevocably changed now. I didn't do it because I'm nice, I did it to torture him. This was a few weeks ago and he hasn't brought up his Strat since.
I've got a nice Strat too, as nice as I've ever found. But my Lester is a monster and I've never been able to find anything for sale that matches it.
Levi Morales
Welcome, gearfag. What shitty guitar do you play? Bet mine's better
Leo Hughes
Liking a different guitar is like finding a new pornstar to jerk off to, you bust for a week or two then realize ol’ trusty is what does it for you. I’m sure he’s not bringing up his Strat you don’t feel insecure about playing one of the least interesting guitars out there
Hudson Price

Look into his past and what he gave up. He worked at mcdonalds forever before eventually breaking out as a guitarist.

It looks like an absolute piece of dogshit but for $100~ you can't expect much. Before you upgrade your gear get a job though so you won't be the 10000th person in this thread asking about some $30 pedals for your 6" starter amp or asking about a boss katana.
Justin Jones
The artcore wasn't mine. And it would be 17 with it. There's also several that hasn't been added to that pic.

>there ever a reason to spend >$1500 on a guitar? Only if you're a working musician or a collector, of if you're having a luthier craft you a one of a kind guitar.
Over $2k, you're getting into custom finishes and exotic materials that will have fuck all to do with how you play, or overinflated prices from companies desperate for cash (coughCustomShopGibsonscough)
A career guitar - one that you can expect to last 20 years, with regular maintenance and care, shouldn't run you more than $2k, for the high end, new stuff, unless you want pristine virgin wood only handled by big breasted amazon rain forest maidens, and day glo dyes and poly finishes.
A hobby guitar? $1500 is more than you'll ever need.
Gabriel Edwards

Trying this again. Anyone got any feedback on QC of 2018 MIM Fender player basses? Jaguar in particular.
If you like nice things. You can't get a new Rickenbacker for less than $1500 for example.
It depends, more expensive isn't really "better", you can get good guitars at sensible price points these days. It used to be a bit different but rejoice, you live in a golden age.
I have several expensive guitars, probably play my Mexican Tele the most even though its pretty undesirable if you're just looking at pictures in catalogue or something (1995, bridge strung) but I don't regret anything. Guitars aren't really that expensive in the grand scheme of things, they are just really expensive at the time you could get the most use out of them which is one of life's ironies.
Not him but he got you, you're obviously perturbed.
Carson Richardson
the coloring on that cigarette should be the other way around stupid chinks
John Cooper
Tbh building pedals is so easy even that brazilian ape with a wheel barrel can do it, there's a million diagrams online. If you took shop class you'll be fine it's just sticking stuff on a circuit board and soldering, and if you didn't take shop class congrats you'll learn how to work with your hands and make guitar repairs cheaper than taking it to a luthier
Mate, most people in /gg/ don't even know what Dorian is.
Cooper Bell
It means he knows what he's doing.
Pre-distortion EQ controls which frequencies are distorted. Clipping around 1KHz sounds particularly good. Post-distortion EQ modifies your EQ as you would expect.
Juan Ortiz
yeah. but i need a lot of stuff to begin doing it
Brayden Hill
Go buy it then, you can get everything you need at home depot for like $30. It'll be a more useful hobby to pickup than gearposting since you don't really play guitar anyway.
Nathaniel Campbell
>don't really play guitar it was rude to assume that
Elijah Barnes
Nah, it's jcope now.
Matthew Peterson
What do you mean about functional harmony? I generally think in terms of minor chords I can play the sixth and ninth over, i.e. in C I wouldn't normally play F# over either Am or Em
I would go for the Deluxe as I don't like Mesa, but the Mesa may be more what you're looking for.
Not a meme, very useful pedals and have different effects post and pre gain.
Start by counting, and eventually you won't have to feel it.
>What do you mean about functional harmony? I mean there are supposedly people who play A Dorian over a vi chord in the key of C Major? Functionally, A Aeolian should be played instead, because the vi chord has a b6 or b13. I understand there are Jazz guys who play Dorian over every minor chord they encounter.
Wyatt Barnes
Marshall JCM800 + Les Paul + Rick Rubin
Zachary Turner
Incorrect I'm afraid. The b6 is an avoid note, and the vi chord doesn't have it (in the key of C, Am does not have an F). You rarely hear it played because it is so tricky to make sound good. Maybe if you did a surround note thing, like F-D-D#-E over Am.
Jonathan Rogers
my singing is actually improving this is awesome
David Wood
Spalted maple top or flamed maple top go
Brody Barnes
reminder that practicing is for suckers and that discussing new gear and buying cool new guitars is the only way to become an awesome player
Flame, spalted looks like shit. It's also a wood disease/defect, just one that they figured out they could relabel and market to you
Josiah Mitchell
The reason most jazz musicians avoid the b6 over a m7 chord is because it sounds cheesy as fuck. It's not an avoid note in the same way the 4 is, it's just seen as lazy kind of like resolving lines to the tonic.
Jason Rodriguez
Who is the better player between jcope and sambo?
Kayden Diaz
>actually believing in "avoid notes"
man white people really killed jazz.
Liam Cooper
I am a jazz musician, and the reason I avoid the b6 is because it almost always sounds awful. I definitely wouldn't call it cheesy. Believe it or not the 4 is actually easier to use, if you listen to the old Miles Davis recordings you can hear him do it all the time. b6 is mentioned below.
Avoid notes are a concept when you're beginning or at the intermediate stage, after that you have enough knowledge of the music that you know where and when you can break the rules. And in fairness, if you listen to black jazz musicians, they adhere to the same rules. I mean, they invented them
John Phillips
You're still trying...to accomplish something?
Jackson Thomas
Was thinking of doing a stain in a similar color to this, kinda think the darker bits of the spalted might look nice with the blue
>in the key of C, Am does not have an F It does if you extend the harmony out.
Brandon Wilson
Is the BIASFX and ToneCloud user around? I have an alert 4 u
Joseph Hughes
Is the F chord really that big of a struggle to a lot of people, I can switch to it pretty slow now but I've been playing for like 3 weeks. I can probably get it faster more consistently pretty soon.
Josiah Ward
Is the DM2-W any good. I have a MIJ DM2 on my long term list but if the waza-craft version does the job i might just get that instead
Jcope has won two of three guitar duels, but that's not a good guide because someone usually loses due to not submitting their "improvisation" within the 30 minute time limit.
Blake Morris
Yeah I used amplitube first and Bias is way better. Imho the only good amp on Amplitube was the ENGL head which iirc had a shit ton of bass.
That could be cool yeah. I think it generally looks bad with a natural top, like most people do, but with that it might look cool. That's a great looking finish
If there's an A in the bass and an F in the chord, generally it's something like an F/A or Am(b6) which is basically the same thing. If it's a standard Am chord, F will sound awful over it. Did you read the Wiki?
There is one special case, if there's an Em chord (key of C still) often C over this will sound less offensive than F over Am. This is because chord iii is a replacement for chord I
Galaxy brain is leaving out the bottom two strings. Spent ages learning barres as a kid, and now I'm older I never really use them.
I had an original, I wasn't blown away by it. I liked the Carbon Copy more
Christopher Peterson
the guy that recommended me to get BIAS from piratebay and use tonecloud
Sebastian Russell
>Galaxy brain is leaving out the bottom two strings. Spent ages learning barres as a kid, and now I'm older I never really use them.
Yeah Justin on the site said that's the more common used version for most songs but I've been practicing both just to get ready for barre chords on general
Ayden Hughes
the C shape bar chord is easy like an F bar chord to me now but the B chord on the A string is still a chore
Landon Price
Anything over that should be hand built and full custom if it isnt from a brand that retains its value. Pic related is my wheelbarrow.
Restrung my bass and my open A is buzzing. I figured it would be the nut but it worked just fine with the old strings and far as I know they're the same gauge. What could it be?
>watch tone video on youtube >they all sound great effortlessly >even with guitar rig and my nice equipment I sound like shit I hope this is just a beginner thing
Aaron Foster

Most tone videos people use direct input to usb with their amp or professional mics so it sounds better than normal. That's why a lot of them are pretty pointless to watch unless if you use direct input also
Brayden Hernandez

Carter Watson
There's more to it than that, direct in with any amp I've ever had sounds shit
Wyatt Johnson

Jacob Rodriguez

Nicholas Green
Have you gotten your guitar set up professionally or did it yourself like checking the intonation, making sure fretbuzz isn't bad enough to be heard through the amp, etc. Might be that if people using the same gear and the same EQ sounds way better.
John Phillips
You have to take off the cock piercing before you deepthroat a tranny sambo.
Jaxon Murphy
Yes, I have a great luthier and do a pretty good setup myself as long as the frets are alright. Never sounds good but I know it can, if you are experienced enough.
Cameron Kelly
That guy wasn't me. I bought it new from a local shop with a good reputation, and it sounds good at times, but I haven't been able to get any really nice tones so far. I thought it might be my lack of skill, but even the guitar rig presets sound kind of lame, so maybe it's my setup. I'm just using guitar to interface to PC though, I don't see what might be wrong.
This. It was abundantly clear that Samuel, who is not that good of a guitar player, is a much better guitarist than Jcum when they dueled, despite the defaulting. The thing that made it most clear was when Sam, a bluesfag, outplayed Jcum on a metal song.
Grayson Bell
DM-2w is a fantastic delay. definitley worth a try.
William Parker
For advice on vibrato is practice keeping the bends equal. Then as you grow as a player you can express them more but its good to have them perfect at the subconcious level.
>Jcum can only win when Sam cant upload his entry due to 3rd world internet >Jcum looses in his "specialty" to Sam the one time he does get his kaka together enough to play >Jcum cant even stay in key >Jcum makes excuses and claims he's so talented he doesn't need to stay in key
Is Jcum actually more deluded than the pedo that thinks his les paul made him into the girl from k on?
No, look at a video of the metal hammer festival in 1985 you can see him play the start of disposable or in a part of creeping death, but now yes except obviously he alternate picks stuff like fight fire with fire or spit out the bone though.
Jaxson Hughes
>jcope is trying to use a trip on a ferry to pretend ..something or another lmao it got to you that bad huh

Have you guys tried the NYXL strings from D'addario? I've always just used the normal XL ones but I'm thinking of trying them next time I change strings. I've never played coated strings before so I'm wondering how they feel.

i tried the 5er version and they were pretty good, would use again

Jonathan Thompson
>no 3 band eq unless its literally cheap china shit it's just a power amp, meaning you're supposed to use a preamp with it

A cheap amp that doesnt have an eq sounds like a $50 piece of shit you get in starter packs. Don't bother wasting your money to buy a pedal more expensive than your amp.
Eli Lopez
i feel paranoid about plugging my amp into my bedroom wall because I've never plugged anything into it thats a higher voltage than a laptop, cellphone or lamp

Excuse the poor gear, I use a squier affinity and a champion 20 amp. Sorry it isn't the whole solo as I didn't have a video of it all, this was filmed in June.
Ethan Lee
pretty good, it seem about normal for someone practicing everyday.

Thoughts on Musicman St. Vincent and Valentine and which one should I get?
Damn right I do. I won't even tell you how you outed yourself as king of the plebs. No, practice with metronome at 2 and 4. Probably not. But good job, man.

It's got more in common with the Jupiter Thunderbird than it has with the Explorer. I have an original Explorer by the way.

Ty dude
My problem atm is that I can bend up to pitch nicely, but as soon as I try and apply vibrato to that bend, it starts to go flat. It feels like my fingers are too weak.
I've gotten away from it for so long because I use the palm of my hand against the bridge to create the same sound, but I guess that feels like cheating now.
Colton Morales
Has anyone here made up a decent meme today? These forced ones are stale and frankly, embarrassing.
Kayden Parker
>It feels like my fingers are too weak Then develop your finger strength, pussy.
Zachary Campbell
You answered it yourself. What do you expect from us, to practice for you?
>hand on the bridge It's a strat isn't it? Lol you're using the tremolo. Don't you have the wang bar for it? Anyway yes it's cheating and you should work on your bending and vibrato for now.
Henry Rodriguez
Wang bars are fucking gay, I took that shit off as soon as I got it.
Oh yeah the obvious answer is practice lol. I'm just making sure my actual knowledge of the technique is correct. I don't want to think there's a certain way to do it and practice that, when in reality the best way to do it is different on a mechanical level.
Brandon Thompson
Alright, I've decided I will buy the Musicman Valentine. It sounds great. I dig the single - humbucker config.
Here's a lesson on bending and vibrato by one of the masters of guitar bending. You want to do the major movement with your arm and wrist. The fingers also need to be strong to hold the string's pull.
im 3 months into learning guitar , can you guys reccommend me some ways to get better? i know like 20 chords and a handful of scales, and i practice alternate picking those scales with a metronome at 120 bpm currently, also use guitar tuna to practice the chords. i cant really play along to any songs i like in a way that sound pleasent
Yeah you're so superior that you can't even bother listening to stuff that may prove you wrong
Jordan Martin
Practice strumming and focus on playing with the metronome at a slower pace but on beat. Pretty much just put more effort into getting clear and smooth chord changes that are on beat rather than doing scales the fastest you can.
A lot of beginners overlook how important having a good strumming hand is.
Honestly its interesting watching this because vibrato on my index finger is better than with my ring/middle. (although potentially excessive). I'm struggling with vibrato on bends because multiple fingers on the string.
Ty for the video btw
Ian Brooks
Good to see Sambo wearing clothes for a change.
Liam Martinez
I've been playing my LP for years but recently acquired a G&L Invader and been playing that lately when I'm in the mood for some 80s metal whammy bar wankery.
You gotta practice that too See Ace bends with one or two fingers. That requires a bunch more strength but it also strengthens then quicker. I think it helps getting more agility in the bends in some situations but that may be a false belief of mine. Anyway if you have an acoustic guitar I suggest you doing some of the practice on it because of the thicker strings, like a workout.
Hudson Wright
I feel like somehow these threads have deteriorated even further since the last time I was here.
Colton Morris
It only gets bad when the 3rd worlders start to have chimpouts because it just becomes discord memes but other than that it's still the same,

Jose Gutierrez
Tell the truth, it really bothers you that I won't post my gear doesn't it?
Camden Morris
It's a tool for a specific job, if you don't need it then yeah it's pointless. That'd be like buying a chorus pedal but none of the stuff you play uses one.
Joseph Young
I don't even know who you are. Why do you think I would give a fuck about your gear? Or even know if you post it or not?
Brayden Jenkins
>I don't even know who you are This bothers you too, doesn't it? You know why I won't post my gear here? Or my playing?
Because nothing you think about anything matters to me ;^)
Joshua Baker
How can it bother me when you don't even cross my mind. I think you think you're more important than you really are.
Jacob Garcia
lol I don't need to relate to you. I don't need your approval. I don't need anything from you. I don't need you at all.
And it eats you all the way up.
Cameron Bennett
This is what I was talking about currently when the 3rd worlders go on lunch break and shit up the thread, nothing but discord squabbling since they can't have conversations about music because they can barely play.
aren't they like 150 brand new, why did you pay 360
Asher Wright
I'm guessing he lives in Brazil with those prices.
Colton Bennett
I'm confused alone on why anyone would pay 600 for an epiphone.

Welcome to demos in 2019, watching guitar demos to hear how they sound is pretty pointless though honestly when the large majority of the sound is from the amp, pickups, eq, pedals, and mics.
Try one in store if you have some and see if it feels good to you.
