Wtf I didn't type onions.

Wtf are onions
Why the fuck are you posting crap from R*ddit?
based retard
Wtf is a retard?
Eh I mean, all projection aside it is the shit. It is by far the most marginalized music out there and mostly by people who have literally never listened to it. It was not nearly as homogeneous as ignorant detractors make it seem and it actually covered quite a bit of ground in terms of style, and there is plenty of good stuff under the umbrella that gets thrown under the bus with the stuff that kind of is what detractors say, but even some of that stuff has more merit that what people give it, just because something is fun and non "2deep4u" or even straight up poppy doesn't make it necessarily bad, but of course in a post Nirvana landscape ironically, that is the general consensus among the non thinking rock fans who ironically consider themselves to be unique intellectuals.
Motley Crue is a weird band in particular, a lot of their songs suck dick but when they kick ass they kick ass and much like punk their shittiness somehow lends itself to their appeal.
Every hair metal band looks like a group of mtf trannies. It’s the most estrogen filled if anything.
Kiss Me Deadly is the one good hair metal song and it was made by a woman
Doesn't get less manly than that
hi where are the onion
You say that because it's the only one you know, once again, detractors don't know jack shit about it
Kiss Me Deadly makes Talk Dirty To Me sound like Venom. Not that there is anything wrong with that, but Jesus. This is why is right....glam metal was not all uber pop fluff to that level which is what people imagine.
I'm only in here for the onions desu

>quick reminder Appetite ended hair metal not Nevermind inb4 GnR are hair metal
"Hair metal" is a derogatory term anyway, it's about as meaningless as "mall metal" is.
Also, all Appetite ended was the poodle/cartoon glam look that was cool in the earlier 80's, and brought in the "street" look.
just listen to visual kei instead
love to limit my musical taste to only men who could beat me up
More like visual GAY
youre not wrong honestly
Well the point you made was that they were full of estrogen...so, nice goal post move fat little shrimp dicked faggot
It's faggy crossdressing shit and the music is equivalent to drugs/guns/hoes rap in lyrical substance. Motley Crue, Def Leppard, Poison, Bon Jovi were literally mostly liked by 14 year old girls lol.
Visual Kei has no roots to hard rock or heavy metal from what I've heard, it's more like weird Jap goth rock shit that happens to want to look like American bands from the 80's
motley crue rocked they weren't a chick band, bon jovi and poison sure
>ending a post in "lol"
Soiboi posing as a Twitter black, you're a fag.
I'd kick your ass and shove your Odd Future records up your non music listening ass, oh wait you don't OWN records, faggot. Guess I'd just shove your cell phone up there.

Very true! It seems popular on here to wield music that's now unpopular with music fans and critics as if you're superior for liking it, but it's just damn good music. Everyone on here is a fucking keyboard warrior now. Dokken is seriously one of the best fucking metal bands. Every time I put them on in a social setting, I've had people ask me who they are. A friend of mine that had said, "glam metal is shit," just days before completely flipped after he'd heard some of them, Crashdiet, and Harem Scarem, and realizing that's basically what Def Leppard and Ratt are too. I'd like to see some more interesting things happen with it though! Like, I do adore it and all of its melodic sensibilities and constant chromatic walk downs as it stands, but I'd like to see someone mix it together with some more metal AND non-metal genres for an interesting sound. Thankfully I don't think glam fans would be as pretentious as a lot of black metal guys are, but who knows. Anyone have some recommendations for some out of the box glam metal?
Cowboys From Hell killed hair metal
X Japan is considered visual kei? Because they are well known in metal circles...most stuff I see referred to as visual kei, is not so much, and has an audience of weebs exclusively. In any case I like X Japan.
The middle band you posted sounds like some spastic shit, and the last one doesn't even sound like hard rock but some new wave shit aside from the guitar solo...but on the subject of Japs, let nobody forget Loudness ruled and kicked you in the head

What posers don't get is that plenty of stuff under the "glam" umbrella was a lot more trad than it was pop among other things, but people don't know the music they talk about on this board half the time.
Motley Crue weren't really a "chick band", having a good number of female fans compared to Metallica in the early 80's didn't mean you were a girl band. I know plenty of guys who were actually around back then who liked and still like Motley Crue who likely know more about metal as a whole than you do.
x japan is THE visual kei band. they basically started the whole movement. visual kei really is more about the style than the music anyway, and they sure as hell fit the style (at least up until Dahlia came out)

The glam metal style from the bands got it from KISS, Van Halen, New York Dolls, Alice Cooper, and UK glam rock like Slade and T. Rex.
It was a cool thing to do, it wasn't considered gay or feminine by the people who did it, it was considered rebellious. And congrats on being a fag by thinking just because someone calls people faggots on the worlds edgiest website it makes them a "homophobe", maybe you should go back, newbie.

Hey dad hair metal hasn't been cool for 30 years now it was gay as shit disposable pop rock
what's that one hair metal song from American Dad
YOU'RE MOTORIN YEAHHHH WHAT'S YOUR PRICE FOR FLIGHT
My dad said it was one of the worst thing about his teenager years and only kids and dykes were into them. Men was smashing beers and listening to Metallica and Slayer.
If you don't own Shout At The Devil, Slave To The Grind, and this....at the very least, which neither of you faggots do, you're a non metal poseur.
And even if those were the only glam metal albums you owned, you'd be a basic bitch. It's pathetic talking to metalheads under 20 years old, fucking move on to indie rock already.

Shout at the Devil is too heavy for hair metal and shreds, I reserve that tag for Bon Jovi, shit like Kix and Winger, and power ballad stuff. I thought it was a derogatory term for stuff like that anyway not all 80s metal.
I like WASP. I like a lot of metal bands, especially in sludge and death metal. I also like a lot of indie rock bands. Unfortunately, I am not a fan of Motley Crue. Oh well.
Your dad is right
That's just because you're ill informed and judge music without listening to it. And yes "hair metal" is not a real term but if we're gonna even use "glam metal", it covers a wide variety of shit...some of it is much heavier, some of it is much poppier, some of it is punkier, some of it is bluesier...it's not fucking black and white here. Motley Crue doesn't sound like Dokken doesn't sound like Cinderella doesn't sound like Poison doesn't sound like Bon Jovie doesn't sound like Skid Row doesn't sound like WASP doesn't sound like Winger doesn't sound like LA Guns doesn't sound like Stryper. Outside of the power ballads and anthemic radio songs just about every band was pressured to put out for mass appeal, there is a lot of variety to be quite honest, just like pretty much any other scene or genre. I don't think Morbid Angel sounds a thing like Deicide, but to someone who doesn't know that kind of music they will say it is the same, same thing applies.
Your fictional made up dad is a poseur who changes history retroactively, likes Enter Sandman, and has no idea who Tokyo Blade is. Poseur made up dad, dude.
Oh I know who you are now, that faggot who's still mad metalcore isn't actually related to metal at all
lol made up dad.
whatever that makes you sleep better at night man.
If your dad isn't made up, he is a giant poseur trying to paint himself as the tough guy because he's salty he was the greasy zitty nerd playing DnD in the basement like "yeah Metallica dude, fuck Motley Crue" getting zero pussy whatsoever. Rewriting history, Metallica was not "cool" until the very end of the decade, and even then Gn'R was cooler and seen as being just as dangerous and badass. And actually were....Gn'R had scandal shit with fights and abuse from the start, Metallica were a bunch of pussy kids outside of Dave, who was gone by then.
I literally have no idea what you're talking about. I like some metalcore bands, but it's never been a favorite genre.
Regardless, they're clearly more relevant to metal than glam metal.
Not him, but goddamn you're a cringey, sad little man. In your mongoloid universe people aren't allowed to enjoy extreme metal if they don't enjoy your shitty, cheesy, degenerate 80s pop bands. You're a sad little loser.
I don't agree that it's a genre at all. Big hair was just a fashion choice in the 80s and 90s, and there are a dozen different "hair metal" bands that sound completely different.
If you want to say Motley Crue and Poison are "based as fuck"....
well whatever floats your boat, faggo
No one really cares, never forget that heterosexuals also have the right to rock.
>Motley Crue were not a chick band
michaeljordanlaughing.gif
This shit was a stain on rock. Only rednecks and boomers blinded by nostalgia look back on it fondly. This music was way worse than what the new wave, punk, synth, etc bands were doing
My mom liked motley crue at like 15 dude...
Yeah the real myth is that hair metal "died" at any real point in the 90s. People who listened to those bands in the 80s just kept listening to them and switched to watching VH1 instead of MTV where they got more airtime.
The quality of the music did decline tho.
As evidence I submit how this commercial was played non-stop on half the channels on television through the late 90s and probably up until 2002-2003 or around about.

>I don't agree that it's a genre at all. Big hair was just a fashion choice in the 80s and 90s, and there are a dozen different "hair metal" bands that sound completely different.
I do agree totally that lots of bands sounded different from one another, but I still think it's a genre...things were not as black and white as they are now with every genre consisting of nothing but word for word note for note clones, zoomers who do not listen to music in depth before the 90's will never understand this though. But "glam metal" is a genre as much as hard rock ,heavy metal, and glam rock were, it could mean a lot of things and you can only really understand it if you have a lot of listening history under your belt. Not all "glam metal" is overly pop, some of it was just the American metal of it's day, some of it was very poppy, but regardless, if you could sum up what the genre is based on exluding exceptions to the rule, it's based on the heavier music from the UK like Judas Priest and Iron Maiden mixed with the sensibilities of the American music like KISS and Van Halen. Sometimes the "metal" part of it was lesser and sometimes it was more, but there was a style musically. It was more commercial than UK heavy metal, but less rock and rolly and more tight and metallic than US stuff of the 70's.

No you don't. You mostly listen to shitty pop metal.
I didn't read the rest of your post, because there's no point. You don't know anything about me, but you throw out that assumption because you're that fucking stupid and pathetic.
I don't care how much of any kind of music you listen to. Like what you like. I don't care. But stop insulting people for liking, or disliking, what they do. You stupid sack of shit.
My mom liked Slayer at 12, what does that prove dude...
You don't listen to music, you're a poseur and you know nothing of metal
You entered this thread to talk shit, now you can't hang, typical of a punk rock metalcore poseur faggot. And you're not punk either, you poseur piece of shit.
why are you responding like you're me?
I still don't agree. It's just a meme genre that gets bands lumped in that do not belong there because they followed the fashions of the time. Sometimes you'll see Anthrax lumped in as a hair band. That is stupid.
Glam metal is a better term than hair metal and I think people do make the distinction.
We should all just resolve to stop responding to shitty glam metal threads. Starve the glam metal faggot off the board, he never contributes anything good.
And they sold them because they were popular.
FACT: Hardcore Punk and Grunge are more relevant to actual Metal music than Hair Metal ever was. Also, the Britpop bands were much truer rockstars than the Hair Metal bands ever were.
Not heavy metal.
>Sometimes you'll see Anthrax lumped in as a hair band. That is stupid.
I've literally never seen that, Anthrax is one of the "big four of thrash", you can't be thrash if you're a "hair band" and if anyone says that they're probably just one of the neo nazi Slayer fans who are hell bent on hating the shit out of Anthrax because they have Jews, and their criticisms are all obviously based on politics and a satirical kind of smugness, not actual music
>men dressed like women
no thanks, fag
Oasis were more rock n roll than these nonces raiding their mum's closet
We never caught on to that shit, always laughed it off as plastic decadent American excess.
>FACT: Hardcore Punk and Grunge are more relevant to actual Metal music than Hair Metal ever was.
This is how you know someone is not involved in the metal scene, knows no metal musicians (not metalcore), has no metalhead friends, and goes to no metal shows.

You are not a metal fan, only conceivable way you'd think so
Let me guess...you like post hardcore and sludge? You're not a metal fan, you like metal for people who don't like metal. Cope faggot. Metal is big guitars, metal is wailing vocals, metal is cheesey but rebellious pomp.
You're so fucking stupid. Death came out in '84-ish, the same time bands like Green River, U-Men, Soundgarden, and Melvins were active.
Metallica did a ballad
Not him, but you're literally retarded.
Yeah this is all way better than def leppard type shit
Well it was a nice little thread for a while boys but it appears the local "that guy" has arrived. Any further discussion will go in the same circle it has been going on a thousands threads on a thousand boards before us naming off lists of bands
I'll just post this

>Glam Metal is completely irrelevant to Metal, especially now.
Yeah, when's that resurgence of 80s music and culture going to hurry up and get here?
Based and true. Fuck altfags, fuck stoner rockfags, fuck grungefags, fuck punkfags, fuck hipsterfags, fuck indiefags. Metal does not belong to any of them.
Nothing is more metal than homosexuality.
This so fucking much, I'm sick of people who are not metal appropriating metal. Rock on trad metal brother
you forgot one, fuck purist metal larpers
Since this got ZERO replies as a thread guess I just repost it here

Soundgarden and Pearl Jam might not be metal but surely a metal fan sees the value in what both of them did. Nirvana obviously is the most anti-metal band ever to exist, so I get that.
>Nirvana obviously is the most anti-metal band ever to exist
silly talk
Yes, sure, I can see that but the bands sucked as people.
That faggot Kim Thayill or whatever went on record saying Soundgarden was a "punk" band, meanwhile early Soundgarden is just 90's Led Zeppelin, what a fucking phony.
It was very Zeppelin-influenced, but I don't see why you hate him for liking punk. That makes you sound pretty petty and dumb. Thayil and Cornell always came off pretty nice in interviews.
If you had posted only one video I would have watched. But this many, no way.
Okay. But if you don't already know most of them, you aren't into metal.
Nirvana made fun of guitar solos in the Teen Spirit video, also made fun of metal by wearing costumes on Headbanger's Ball, a show they never should have been on had it ever been genuine.
I don't hate anyone for liking punk, I hate him for saying Soundgarden is punk when it's not, real punks fucking hate anything related to hippie rock, prog, folk, or heavy metal, Soundgarden was anything but "punk", I don't agree with punk but I respect those who are true to it, not people who claim it while not adhering to it's values. Thayil is a fucking douche in the interview I saw him in, total pretentious dickwad who thinks he's way more talented than he is. Dave Mustaine has more talent in his pre cum than he does, hell, CC Deville does....Cornell has never bothered me anytime I've heard him speak.
Nirvana is not metal at all though, they are more like alternative rock and punk and they hated metal
The grunge aesthetic of Alice in Chains was entirely manufactured by the industry. The boys in the band had no fashion sense and just wore what they were told to wear for the right image to sell albums. Jerry Cantrell said this in a television interview years ago.
Don't take this the wrong way, but do you happen to be autistic? You genuinely seem kind of autistic to me.
Just stop spamming the thread.
Lots of garbage here
Alice In Chains were not part of the Nirvana anti metal pro alternative mindset, they were metalhead rockers, this was Jerry's old band
Look in the mirror and find out.
>real punks fucking hate anything related to hippie rock, prog, folk, or heavy metal,
Not really dude, punks hate things that are commercial more than anything. Most punks i know also jam old heavy metal and bunch of other stuff.
oh noes they made da funnies worst most anti-metal band evar.
Actual metal bands have taken the piss out of the genre much worse than anything Nirvana ever did. Also Nirvana is not just Kurt Cobain.
I didn't say they were nor imply it. But saying Nirvana is anti-metal when grunge and metal both originate from similar anti-establishment rock and roll backgrounds is silly.
Kurt thought hair bands were getting out of hand and the music was starting to become second place to the image and the industry (and he was right about that). I doubt he ever had much of a problem with people who were playing metal for the music of metal.
I think I'd better keep spamming it if you don't understand what metal is.
Also, making one post with lots of links isn't spamming. Welcome to Yea Forums.
Out of curiosity, what do you do for a living? What did you study in college?
I find this preoccupation with these pop acts childish and sad, to be honest. Genres like power metal, prog metal, and black metal are notable for how imaginative they are, and the artistry involved. Genres like death metal, sludge metal, and grindcore are noted for their passion. The appeal of those genres is completely disconnected from the so-called "glam metal" genre, which inevitably feels stilted. The musicianship is often subpar, which might be fine if the songwriting was innovative, interesting, or expressive, but it isn't. It's formulaic. It's all about the spectacle of watching the bands, in gaudy, dated costumes, swagger around pretending to be macho guys. I can definitely understand the appeal to any boy 15 years old or younger, but beyond that it seems like anyone with any intellect would move on. It really is just weak pop music, played by men dressing up like a cross between drag queens and comic book characters. It's puerile.
>The musicianship is often subpar
This is my favorite part of this post because it says precisely nothing.
>Not really dude, punks hate things that are commercial more than anything. Most punks i know also jam old heavy metal and bunch of other stuff.
Heavy metal has never not been commercial until the birth of black metal. Thrash metal pretended but it was a juvenile jealousy of the opposite Cali metal bands who were guys who actually got laid but smoking hot girls.
Nirvana hated metal, and musically, were not metal...they have musical links to music I like, such as power pop, but not metal.
>Heavy metal has never not been commercial until the birth of black metal.
Not true at all, ever heard of the 80's thrash sellout? Or the death metal sellout of the 90's?
There was a point in time (late 80's early 90's) when most metal genres got commercialized in the big label buyout of that time.
Glam metal appreciation is best appreciated by people who like both 70's and early 80's heavy metal and various forms of 70's rock, like hard rock. If that is not your wheelhouse, you'll never understand it, and quite frankly I find you to be sad....you don't have AC/DC, you don't have KISS, you don't have Van Halen, your taste is shit to me just like mine is to yours. Whatever.
>Not true at all, ever heard of the 80's thrash sellout? Or the death metal sellout of the 90's?
Yes....I think you read what I wrote wrong, so I'll not make a rebuttal, but yes, thrash and death metal were commercial
You said that heavy metal has never been commercial until the birth of black metal, which is not true, the sellouts were around long before that.
Neber not been commercial, learn to read.
Metal was never "underground" and if it was it was just because the mainstream didn't pick up on it yet, it wasn't trying to be. Metal, the original metal attitude was about being bigger and better than everyone else. Or more outrageous as a means of getting there....black metal was the first scene to reject commercialism and capitalism.
>Kurt thought hair bands were getting out of hand and the music was starting to become second place to the image and the industry (and he was right about that).
Nirvana never wrote a song as good as this in the 90's, commercial or not (not that it matters because Nirvana was a major label commercial band with MTV riding their dick, they were not underground)
youtube.com
And considering Nirvana is supposed to be about earnest emotions and honesty and vulnerability, they never wrote a song as good on those terms as this in the 90's

Sorry, something about both of those songs triggers a deep seated millennial revulsion.

Nope. Kurt liked Black Sabbath
That's hard rock.

Nah, you just have terrible taste
>he distinguishes hard rock from heavy metal
>song is an instrumental
Go figure. That IS the explanation Lars gave on his old KSJO slot for Bow Wow not getting on there though. Also
>The first time I came across Metallica was 1987 or ’88 at The Marquee Club in London,” Yamamoto explained in a Tokyo cafe. “We were playing there and all the members of Metallica came backstage to see us. They were singing ‘Silver Lightning,’ which is a song of mine from 1977. I asked them why they were singing it and Lars told me they used to copy all my songs.
>Lars told me he sometimes does a radio program and he always plays Bowwow songs,” Yamamoto says. “Last time, he said he played the whole of one side of the ‘Signal Fire’ album from start to finish."
>I have heard that many American rock fans have been buying our albums through import record shops since the '70s and we did have one compilation of VowWow released on Capital Records in 1989 but, it is limited. Even Lars of METALLICA tried to promote us by playing early BowWow songs for us on the radio many times. Lars said Metallica used to play our song such as 'Silver Lightning' before they made their debut. I had a jam with Lars and Rob at 2:00am in Tokyo after drinking 3 bottles of wine some years back. There were only 10 people drinking at the bar that saw our special jam!

There was this chubby blond kid who went to a high school near mine who used to wear a jean vest with glam metal patches all over it, it was literally completely covered in logos for bands like Tesla, Whitesnake, Poison, Dokken, Warrant, etc. He'd also wear a red bandanna and retro 70s cop glasses. This was only about 10 years ago or less, so it was a little awkward. Last I checked he'd ditched the vest but kept the bandanna, and was now wearing baggy red t-shirts, trying to look like an early 90s gangsta rapper and listening to Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre, etc. I wonder if he really thought he was a blood. I don't know if he was just really low IQ, or of there was actually a mental disability there.
For some reason, I feel like there's a small chance OP is that kid.
Guns 'N Roses didn't kill hair metal but they were the beginning of the end imo. After Appetite, most bands started to tone down the garish outfits and the hair. I mean look at Motley Crue in the Dr. Feelgood era, they look way more normal there compared to Shout At The Devil or Theatre Of Pain.
Nah, X Japan's first few albums were pretty much just speed metal with hair metal singing. Most VK bands from the 90's onward don't have anything to do with metal though.
Since when did Finn ever like hair metal lmao
wow. didn't know that connection to Metallica.
