How do you guys usually discover new music? Rym? Bandcamp? Surely it's not just Yea Forums and Fantano.

Yea Forums charts and Yea Forums archive where I just type album titles I like and topics I like and see what was posted while I was gone. Used to check from RYM lists but I realized I hate everybody besides Boomer Metalheads there.
Discord servers for specific genres of music, Last.fm, there's also a few good indie bands I've discovered from soundcloud.
Why would I need any other way to find out other than asking my fellow Yea Forums friends?
are you stupid
NTS radio
from blogs and my dawgs
Boomkat.com
Soundcloud typically starts a random track list after you finish playlists, just pick stuff out of that.
RYM, Yea Forums, Fantano and r/eddit are literally completely identical when it comes to the music being promoted. Bandcamp is a fucking joke, you might as well be using newgrounds.
nvm I got bandcamp and soundcloud mixed up.
Just discover shit through live gigs, underground radio stations, read up on what artists were fundamental in establishing certain genres and who they collaborated with, etc.
youtube turned me on to soccer mommy and snail mail so cool
He probably is
I just listen to big names and if I like it I go down the rabbid hole of similair sounding stuff
I'm involved in my local music scene.
Unironically spotify because I get a discount. It only recs about 15 or so albums per band but I've found a lot of classic albums there before seeing them mentioned here and if I recognize album arts from here I know they're worth a listen. At the very least the recs are better than youtube because yt just points you to red piano man and other memecore
live shows, reading interviews and what bands the artist listens to/recommends, Yea Forums sometimes

nice number would call
Did you ever looked further than rym top 100? There are tons of different lists for different genres and shit
Used to be YouTube mixes
Now it's Spotify
Yea Forums and real life friends
Youtube, bandcamp, rym, metallum, and discogs are good ways to find new music. Maybe last.fm too but I haven't used it enough to know for sure
Fantano, Yea Forums, recommendations on Youtube, blogs, music journalism (tinymixtape, thequietus, thesinglesjukebox), interviews of musicians and online shows like "What's in your bag?". Wikipedia is also a great and simple way to get information about labels, side projects and collaborations.

I did and it's all the same shit as Yea Forums. Watch any threads that pop up discussing Japanese music for example. Literally all of it is the top 20 when you go to charts - limit to artists from: Japan
Sometimes the posts get a little more adventurous and you get a top 10 that also utilises the "only include genres" field.
You gotta be a seriously deluded fuck with a very bad case of denial to think Yea Forums's taste is in any way unique when compared to literally any other music community.
Don't know about RYM and r/edddit since I don't go on these sites, but since Fantano only occasionally reviews music from the 20th century, he obviously can't promote the same music that Yea Forums does.
theshfl.com (yes I built it but it is also how I discover things I haven't heard before)
This, you should start following RYM power users with super obscure tastes if you wanna get really ahead of the curve
Mostly Yea Forums and Youtube recommendations. I used to like RYM but it's shit now.
I haven't seen Fukui or whatever his name is in over a year now. In fact, I get no nip recs on youtube at all. What the fuck is happening? I used to see it all the time and it just disappeared. Is the algorithm still pushing it? I do see that lo-fi hiphop shit getting pushed every now and then.
spotify, reccs from friends, Yea Forums occasionally
Allmusic recs and moo, once a decade a YT rec
It still amazes me that people get confused/frustrated about finding music in this day and age. Rym and Yea Forums are actually fantastic starting points for looking for music. Even if you don't want to start there, all the shitty social media sites (Reddit, Tumblr, etc.) have communities dedicated to finding and spreading music. Even the sub-90iq kids that work at your local convenient store are able to find their new favorite cloud rap on Soundcloud. Taking a deeper dive into Bandcamp or Discogs really isn't that much of a chore. Using Last.fm might be annoying to set up at first, but once you get the hang of it you can basically let it auto-pilot. Also have you ever considered going outside? Go to your local record or CD store, even your local boomer that has only listened to hard rock for 90% of his life will be more than willing to discuss music with you. Go to a local music scene or a coffee shop with an open mic night, you don't have to like the music there but it's extremely likely there'll be people there that will discuss music with you. Or even just go to your local library

>go through closing the tabs of the ones that aren't free or 'pay what you want'

10% Yea Forums and other internet sources, 90% recs from friends and the various musicians I play with/talk to while gigging
What should I wear before I go outside to a music store? How do you talk to someone about music? Do I shake their hand first or after an introduction?
>Hello, would you like to have a discussion about the progressive rock genre? I noticed you are white and are currently browsing the rock section. You also happen to be, and no offense, a little portly. I assumed by your looks that you don't socialize much and may on the spectrum. I, too, am very asocial and new to talking to fellow people in public, as opposed to the internet. So was my assumption true and if so, would you like to have a discussion about the progressive rock genre?
I recommend creating a new YT account and only using it to listen to albums. That's how I find a lot of new stuff.
Do you have actual autism?
youtube recommendations
I don't know. I'm a shut-in though and haven't been to a record store before. It's kind of scary because I don't know what to wear or how to approach people. Do I try to profile the people who look like me the most? Fat, white, and ugly? I'm not joking, I really don't understand how to talk to people. I wish I had a friend. Rush puts it best.
youtube.com
Just wear what you view as presentable, and if you're talking to people about music just ask what they listen to and try to go from their. People love talking about them self, always remember that.
Arca's let himself go
Is it okay to tuck my shirt into my jeans? I hate loose shirt because it makes my belly show sometimes. Also, I will try to ask about what they like then. But how does the introduction work?
>Hello, my name is user, what kind of music do you listen to?
I'll ask lots of questions about specifics once it gets going. What if I run into one of those people who give one word answers? I've met many online like that, especially females, who just say
>I don't know
>Okay
>Not really
>Fine
Do you know what I mean?
Lastly, what if they have really, really bad taste that is incompatible? I know to refrain from insulting them at least but how do I disengage without being mean? If they say they like Britney Spears or something, how do I get them to dig deeper to find out if there's a kernel of goodness? I'm sorry, I'm retarded, I know. But I want an irl music buddy.

Friends recommendations or just randomly click on things I see around in my suggesteds. Alternatively I will go on whatever fandango does and see what else I get from there.
I recommend you read "How to Win Friends & Influence People" by Dale Carnegie. I think it will help you user.
Thanks user, I'll read that.
Yea Forums whenever there's a decent thread, discogs. Rarely use RYM but sometimes the album recommendations are decent.
>People love talking about them self
No I fucking don't.
Bless you user, this seems really fun to use.
Based.

Congrats. You are the small minority that doesn't enjoy talking about himself. Want a medal?
As opposed to the large minority? Where are you pulling your statistics from?
Usually rym genre charts. I’ve already listened to the Yea Forums essentials of the genres I like so it’s the best way to branch out IMO.
Most neurotypical people love sharing stories about themselves; it helps to form bonds.
I doubt many people on Yea Forums are neurotypical, or we wouldn't be here - we're mostly INTP or INTJ, generally introverted, and most likely have some form social anxiety. Obviously, it's not true for everyone, but it's a fair statement to make.
RYM (especially the charts/lists), friends, occasionally Yea Forums and fantano desu, and I used to use Bandcamp heavily but dont as much anymore. following labels and musicians on social media is another good way to find new artists, and going to record stores is neat too.
