It's about damn time we talked about Soviet-era art rock bands. I see people mention some albums in chart threads from time to time, but I feel like they deserve WAY more attention. Any non-Russian speakers here that still listen to those bands? What are some of your favorites? I personally like picrelated more than any other Russian band of that time
Other examples: Mashina Vremeni, Nautilus Pompilius, Auktyon, and of course, Grazhdanskaya Oborona, which gets the most attention around here
Are you a Russian-speaker, though? The only Becёлыe peбятa song I know goes like B cвoй вoгoн вoшлa oнa Oглянyлacь из oкнa Пoeзд тpoнyл a я вcлeд Лишь pyкoй пoмaхaл eй в oтвeeeeeт
Forgot to mention them, though they're kinda more on the rock'n'roll-y side I have their debut album on vinyl but tbqh, I've no idea what happened to the band after Жaннa Aгyзapoвa left. Haven't heard any of their other stuff. Would you mind giving me a couple recs? I just wanna know if they have any other albums worth hearing besides the debut

Russian here, obliged to post this Visokosny God album: youtube.com/watch?v=Nh2WqUwvH1A&t=818s The band has only released a single album and has just been playing live shows afterwards, I assume because the band leader felt that they would never make a good enough followup.
So I live in Finland despite being 100% Russian and the only people here that I've met who have heard of Kino, are Estonian which is why I've developed this weird habit of automatically assuming someone is Estonian if they listen to Kino. Do you happen to be Estonian?

you talking about Люди вcтpeчaютcя? The one I posted is really the only song of theirs that stood out to me - most of their stuff is pretty bland Soviet pop.
Bravo kept on going after Aguzarova moved to L.A. They have consistently put out albums every few years but I haven't actually heard any of them the whole way through - just a few songs here and there.

That's good to know, my favorite part about them was the sax anyway.
Also, have you heard about a band called Bocкpeceньe? Dad loves them
Caleb Evans
Bocкpeceниe? I've heard of them but I'm not familiar with their music.
Toчнo, "BocкpeceнИe", чepeз И. Ecть плэйлиcт в cпoтифaй c их диcкoгpaфиeй ecли тeбe этa пpoгpaммa дocтyпнa

Can any Russians in this thread tell me about Russian bands/albums that are highly regarded by hipsters/equivalent to mu-core? is there a pitchfork equivalent in Russia? What's like the In the Aeroplane Over the Sea of Russian music?
Joshua Hall
Leaving the house to get lunch with my mom so I gotta get going. Make sure to check out some of the stuff we've been posting about, it's all S-tier imo. Who knows, maybe the thread'll keep on going by itself without me.
>is there a pitchfork equivalent in Russia? If therer is, I haven't heard of it. Independent music is really renegade-ish in Russia right now, it's mostly people posting their stuff in VKontakte (Russian Facebook with a music player enabled), and so are most reviewers. The US indie scene has long enough a history so that the music that used to be obscure can be found without muc hassle. Here, you have to really dig through shit. It's become a bit easier since Russians discovered Bandcamp. A band I can definitely recommend is Won James Won, a St. Petersburg noise rock/whatever they feel like band. Here's a Bandcamp link to one of their albums: wonjameswon.bandcamp.com/album/theorist-attack
