there are people who think multi-piece necks are new and innovative technology
>what? i thought you had to make them out of one piece! for the toan! you're disrupting the chakra flow of the guitar! how does this still sound good!?
Jordan Baker
What string brand do you guys use. I bounced around from Ernie ball, GHS, elixer, fender, and D'addario when I was new to try out all of the big ones and liked D'addario the best so I've been using those the past few years.
Out of those, GHS was by far the worse I used. Literally turned black in 2-3 days of light use. Also had shitty tuning stability, maybe it was a bad pack but I never bought them again. Ernie Ball is OK but not great, from my experience they're slightly worse than D'Addario but better than GHS. D'Addario has been my best bet, both the cheaper ones and the NYXL stuff. Elixirs are also great and do tend to hold up really well but I don't know if its worth buying 1 pack of those vs 3 packs of D'Addarios for the same or less money.
Brandon Howard
Yeah I had pretty much the same experience, GHS was cheap dogshit and only lasted me a week before going dull, ernie ball was ok but d'addario was better, and elixir is good but not worth like $12 a pack
Carter Green
Yeah thats basically the same conclusion I've drawn. I also found that Elixir's had less string noise when you slide around but with practice I've worked around that on other strings now. D'Addario I think is a solid value and you can buy a 10 pack for like $40 which is pretty good.
Matthew Flores
>he can't afford a Gibson, the only adequate guitar, because he's too busy dilating and lactating to get a job
I've been using Dean Markley's forever. Never had a reason to switch. I'm not a gigging musician, never will be, so I don't need to buy cases of them, so price really isn't an issue either. I always find it funny, that you'll read an interview with a guitarist, and they go on about how a certain string brand is their favorite, and they'll never change - and then a video tour of their gear shows up (whatever that channel is) and the dude has to ask his tech what brand they're using.
Then you see the advertisement for the string company with that dude's face on it.
Jayden Long
Elixir. I sweat so much and have a high acidity level in my sweat. I'll kill a set of almost anything uncoated within 3 days of touching them. Daddarios coating didn't seem to matter, killed their EXP series strings in a week.
39 bucks for the NPS (SoS is way too bright) sets, but I get 3/4 months easily, I'm getting about 2/3 tops in summer weather.
I feel like the middle position on a telecaster is underrated. You get that jangly quality but it still retains a level of warmth/smoothness, it just sounds so nice.
Justin Parker
I set a metronome to 60bpm and I can't get my chord changes any faster than missing a second between them AAAA
Zachary Reyes
practice moar scrub
Lincoln Rodriguez
>middle positions on any guitar >middle pickups on any guitar >any pickup settings other than neck only or bridge only
The only way to get your chord changes faster is to keep practicing and make sure you're actually doing the chord changes clean instead of fast but sloppy.
Samuel Perez
I forgot why I've been putting off watching this forever but guitar kino is on the menu tonight boys
I've tried many different kinds but I always come back to Ernie Ball Super Slinkies. I want to try out some D'Addario NYXL 09-42s next.
Lincoln Hernandez
>right now jcope is busy pushing a wheelbarrow full of broken bricks up a hill while i shitpost inside an air conditioned pet food shop kek like that rolling stones song beast of burden
You don't have the muscle memory yet. It will come. Even the most drugged out, low talent musician gets to that level, eventually. Be patient. Stop stressing on it, and just enjoy the process. Find the songs you like playing, and play them a lot. Eventually your fingers will go where you want them to.
Nolan Rivera
Ernie Ball Flatwounds for bass, D'addario for guitar (both classical and electric). I'd say that string choice is probably the most important non-electrical component in terms of choosing what tone you want.
Jayden Bailey
Has there ever been a more obvious chibson?
Joshua Brooks
You lose every day, Sammy.
Jeremiah Peterson
legit just play. Im at the same point and see progress in everything i do just by doing it. I dont worry. Worry about taxes. Guitar is fun.
John Johnson
Here's what I've used, along with my opinions.
Ernie Ball: used these when I started out since they were advertised everywhere and tons of guitarists endorsed them. After having played for several years, I noticed that they seemed to collect dirt and sound dull pretty quickly even with routine wipe downs, so I ditched them.
Elixers: these felt weird and oily. Used them once for a few months, then nah.
Dean Markley Blue Steels: used these consistently for a long time, they sounded good in the studio and had a much longer shelf life than the Ernie Balls but sounded noticeably duller after a month or so.
Rotosound Yellows: really good, balanced strings for the price. They sounded nice and bright for much longer than the Blue Steels. Unfortunately, the thick E string had a habit of unwinding over the bridge when palm muting (which was insane to me, because I have a VERY light touch) and after it happened a third time (right in the middle of a gig, too) I just couldn't go back to them.
D'Addario NYXLs: I never had any issues with cheaper D'Addario strings beyond the fact that they weren't anything special, and most shops will use them as a default string when doing setups because of how cheap they are. I love the NYXLs, though, and I've been using them for about 2 years on both of my guitars. They retain their sound far longer than any other string I've ever used, (the set on my Strat is at least a year and a half old and is only now beginning to show signs of wear and I play for 1-3 hours per day) so they're definitely worth the higher price in my book.

Is a Les Paul better looking with or without the scratchplate?

Woah there, isn't this post missing a few paragraphs?
Sebastian Perry
Appreciate it. I don't really have much more to say on the subject of strings, though, just that a microfiber cloth for wiping down the neck after playing is a solid investment.
Asher Perez
Adderall, actually.
Jeremiah Torres
I accidentally purchased a 100$ chinese guitar ( ROCKET ST-01rd ). What should i do now ? (other than throw this guitar out of the window and get a 1000$ one)
I might get into the habit of doing the same. My friend used my last guitar and scolded me for how grimy it was.
I eat and play. I'm a savage. lol.
Jaxson Reed
throw some EMG's on that bitch, downtune and start playing djent

Ugh, yeah, no, I'm a complete germophobe and I wash my hands constantly, especially before I pick up a guitar.

Learn to work on guitars with it. If you fuck up trying to file/flatten out the frets, you're out $100. Learn to solder by replacing the electronics. learn to finish a guitar by stripping off the cheap paint, and put a new one on it.
Isaiah Garcia
Yeah the other spics hate me. Im sitting in my truck ;)
Joshua Gonzalez
Exactly what I'm doing

Lmao right now you know all he wants to do is post a pic of one of his shitplanks but the upload time takes too long and bossman would crawl all over his ass for playing on his phone instead of pushing his wheelbarrow
Who's the best guitarist of all time and why is it Eric Clapton?
>Jimi Hendrix was once asked how it felt to be the greatest guitarist ever. Hendrix quickly responded: “I don’t know. You’d have to ask Eric Clapton.”
Carson Stewart
he has no soul tech, job, good amps, or persona

Ritalin's effects aren't as pronounced, and they don't last as long. I take Adderall XR (extended-release) which is taken once per day and can last up to 10 hours (my dose is fairly small); standard Adderall doses last for around 4 hours.
The medication has noticeably helped with my guitar playing, as I find things like recording and transcribing much easier to focus on and less frustrating over long periods. My ADD was untreated until recently so it has been quite a gear shift.
Jason Powell
Why does one guy always try to force the gibson = tranny meme?
I know three trannies who play guitar and their main guitars are an ibanez, an esp, and a schecter because all three were into the screamo fad unsurprising
Dylan Brooks

Fuck Eric Clapton. Always crying about something, whether it's some shitcunt named Layla or his dead son. I wish the cocaine killed him.
A couple of people with no social lives carry over their dumb discord injokes to the general and shit talk about random personalities all the time because they have nothing else better to do since they spend more time buying gear they don't use than playing guitar.
The custom 550 is flawless. The other dean was chinese one was very flawed in terms of qc. I use the custom 550 as much as my fender

Now that's what I call a guitar, and the nicest one on the thread. Is that a Herb Ellis or just a single pickup 175?
Ayden Rogers
Only a Gibson is good enough for rock stars became only a Gibson is good enough for anime girls, became the Gibson with pictures of anime girl, became he wants to be an anime girl, became he's a tranny. The rest of it is just general shitposting phrases that bled in from other boards.

It's 1959 Gibson ES-175. It took me a few years but I finally convinced my friends dad to sell it to me.

My name is Stephen Howe. You might have heard of me before, I'm a pretty well known guitarist.
Blake Williams
Nah you're a 30-some accountant that bought a guitar like his because you thought it would give you magical guitar powers.
Are there any short-scale five string electric bass guitars? Going from an Ibanez Mikro to my full-size F-155DX is nuts.
Logan Reyes
His life is shit
Anthony Sanchez
Yes, and I'm Sayo Hikawa. You might be surprised but I'm actually a two dimensional Japanese teenager in a mediocre, I mean, amazing J-Rock band called Roselia.
Pic related, it's my guitar.
Now if you'll excuse me Steve I can only exist in your dimension for short periods of time so I must go back to get some estrogen pi....french fries.
If you're asking questions about gear this cheap I'd assume you're new and based on that shit guitar posted earlier you want to play metal. What's your budget?
Kayden Howard
I have about 500 euro-dollars and I don't really need an amp since I got one handed down.
Christian Thompson
a cheap floyd rose bridge will rapidly wear down and stop holding in tune. a metal clamp at the nut holds the strings in place and the bridge itself rides on two knife edges held against two posts with string and spring tension. if it's made of cheap pot metal, the clamp will get grooves in it (no more string locking) and the knife edges will flatten out so it'll stop staying in tune. the real ones, which cost upwards of $200 for the most basic models and nearly $500 for more fancy ones with shit like half pound titanium sustain blocks that out-sustain most les pauls, are made of harder alloys with treated knife edges and posts that won't wear down ever. there are FR originals from the 80s that still stay in tune and do that cool flutter effect. the only bad thing that happens to them is some of the black mild steel screws will rust from sweat or ocean air.
the speed at which this deterioration happens to cheap shit FRs is what makes people hate them. eventually the damn thing can not be tuned because it's pretty much broken.
the guitar body itself is probably good though. there's a slight chance the neck might warp or the bridge might be in the wrong spot at that price point but manufacturing has advanced to the point that cheap guitars are made better than most american made strats and les pauls that were played in the 50s. massive batches of wood are dried in industrial ovens and carved by CNC machines. there are very few ways for them to get fucked up outside of mistakes during painting (really common on set neck/neck thru guitars, since it's painted as a unit).
Caleb Foster

buy a made in korea epiphone les paul with your 500 euros.
Lincoln Thomas
memes aside that's one of the nicest flame maple tops i've ever seen.
Eli Lopez
You can buy a lot better than that, the cheapest I'd go for a guitar is $300 that's around where things get decent enough to last you a few years and aren't a struggle to play. Also don't get one of those extreme body shapes when you're brand new. It will be super awkward to play because you have to put them on your legs at off angles or play standing up the entire time. You want something with a simple body that you can sit down with for hours with no problem
Ethan Powell
it's a veneer
Isaac Young
As in reissue or vintage? Nice guitar either way
Michael Mitchell
they're all veneers. "caps" are just thicker veneers for boomers that are either
1: so insane they think a thicker veneer makes a guitar sound different 2: sexually aroused by guitars costing more due to inefficient, wasteful use of rare and expensive raw materials 3: all of the above
Jack Lewis
You need to get out more.
Jonathan Johnson
>caps" are just thicker veneers lol definition of words is hard i know
Liam Baker
Yeah you know they actually are
A veneer that is so thick that the wood is no longer flexible is a cap. If you take shavings off a cap you have a bunch of veneers.
Also tonewood isn't real
Lincoln Mitchell
Vintage, daddy-o ;^)
Asher Powell
>implying you niggers can tell the difference between a full flame maple cap and a regular maple cap with a cleverly blended 2-3mm veneer (just thick enough to have the 3d effect)
Angel Jackson
>veneer >cap lmao you realize those are two different words right
Caleb Bennett
Nah you can tell in person. Real carved caps on PRS and Gibson are way more 3D and have actual depth, veneers are soulless cheap imitations
Kayden Allen
I own both. You can tell by looking at the body contours.
No, the grain looks slightly different where the angle of the contour is the greatest. A veneer is paper thin so it looks flat.
Evan Bell
Has anyone here learned piano after learning guitar? How hard did you find the transition and how quickly before you could play well enough to accompany singing?
I want to write a blues based album of piano songs.
Blake Bennett
I have a chink kit lp that is definitely veneer glued to a contour. How would that look any more flat?
Is this like tube cap vs solid state veneer or something?
Ryder Diaz
>How hard did you find the transition You've come to the right place.
Carter Morris
It's the way the wood grain works. The flame will be "disrupted" at steep cuts with only lower layers showing through, and a completely vertical cut will just make it look speckled (only visible in trem cavities).
A veneer won't have that effect and a regular maple cap won't have the clearly speckled grain in the trem cavity.
Justin Baker
Ibanez vs Jackson vs Dean vs ESP? Which is the best metal guitar?
Leo Richardson
What does it matter if you can't play?
Samuel Morgan
Early 2000s ESP. Everything else is trash.
Owen Perry
Whatever you think looks cool, what a stupid question
Jason Lopez
this. you could always learn to push a mean wheelbarrow instead
Isaac Murphy
Just remove your pickups to tell
Evan Bell
Start looking for the specs you want before comparing brands.
Ethan Perry
I'm asking for when I can play.
Blake Harris
ESP or Jackson IMO. All though I would look for a MIJ or MIA of each model.
Justin Ward
Tried to change the action on my Telecaster and now I get a dull sound from my lower strings, should I just take it to a shop?
Jackson Russell
Literally anything can play metal. It's such a dumb question to ask because each brand had a ton of guitars under it and it's subjective to begin with plus on top of that theres a million types of subgenres for metal that sound different. Start with the basics and when you finally down that go to a store and test out brands to see what you like.
Christopher Gonzalez
Should i start with acoustic or electric guitar and why?
Isaac Stewart
Let's just talk about playing then
Samuel Rogers
electrics seem like pussy instruments after learning on accoustic
Zachary Sullivan
What's wrong with Ibanez and Dean?
Levi Thomas
ibanez is thin necks and good values. Very thin necks. They're $2000 at the most for a Japanese made guitar that shits on nearly everything else. However be wary of their cheaper stuff, it's not consistent in quality. On average, these are very light guitars with the thinnest possible necks and bodies.
Jackson makes three levels of guitars. $300 beginner shit from indonesia, $800 overpriced beginner shit from Japan that's not even that much better, and $3000++ USA made guitars. The USA guitars are really good but way overpriced as fender will give you the same quality with two less frets for less than half the price, sans EMGz. However, these guys basically invented the superstrat and Ibanez and ESP are ripping them off. #playauthentic. Comfier necks than ibanez on average.
ESP used to make mass-produced guitars under their own brand called ESP standards and sell them overseas. Japs started re-importing these because they were way cheaper than domestic ESPs which were Japanese custom shop - in Japan, their cheaper mass produced guitars were called Edwards domestically. As a reaction, they stopped calling those guitars ESPs. Now they're called E-II. When people praise ESP, they're usually talking about one of these old ESP standards that you can't buy anymore. Cosmetic quality has declined with LTD elites and E-IIs because yes, they don't say ESP on the front, so there's less pride involved. Be wary of these. ESP is actually a Japan-focused custom shop, these mass produced guitars are jackson knockoffs they use as a side gig.
It's shit. Just plain shit. Don't buy a fucking dean. I'd rather buy one of the E-IIs than a fucking dean. At least they play as well as their pricetags would imply they would. Most guitar companies are founded by skilled men with a vision. Dean was created from industrial espionage and they've never done anything except make retarded looking Gibsons.
Jaxon Peterson
What songs do you want to play?
Josiah Morris
Never owned one?
Nolan Butler
acoustics seem like pussy instruments after learning on an electric
Josiah Johnson
Never owed a wheelbarrow either.
Luke Miller
I owned one and returned it promptly. And it was the best one they had in the store. It wasn't even a floor model, I had them get it from the back.
Levi Bennett
It’s the other way about and you know it, you don’t hear anyone complaining about their poor fingers with electric guitars.
Camden Brown
I bet you can't even bend 13s
Eli Barnes
sorry boo
Connor Jackson
Not one of you plays piano?

i play accordion

I'm learning now
Jaxson Fisher
if dean is so shit, why does the greatest metal guitarist of all time (dave mustaine) play them?
Alexander Thomas
How long have you been learning and how is it going?
Eli Edwards
No, a USA Z.
Lucas Walker
I love accordion, post a Vocaroo
Owen Wright
he got kicked out of metallica so he couldn't afford anything better prolly
Luke King
just kidding, i can't play accordion

Levi Butler
i notice mexican day laborers play a lot of music with accordion in it
Samuel Johnson
Because Jackson didn't feel like paying him more sponsorship money and Dean was desperate to get someone after Dime died
Owen Gomez
A few weeks. It's going ok but I need to get serious about it.
I call bull.
Brody Adams
Learning it now singing over chords isn't hard, I guess it depends on how fancy you want to be.
Aaron Lewis
I’m from Edinburgh, there’s this ginger guy with mutton chops, lederhosen and a deerstalker cap who plays accordion at open mics, guy is the biggest fucking eccentric but he plays beautifully. Doesn’t even glimpse or clap at any of the performers, just reads a book waiting for his turn.
I want to write Nick Cave/Tom Waits style songs, I wrote this imagining piano in my head and my friend set it to music, there’s a bit of piano in it but ideally I would like to compose and play the whole thing on piano.
You seem to know a lot about that if you think stock Ibanez pickups sound 'good' lmao
Luke Nguyen
It's not bad, not sure how i'd arrange it on piano that bassline is pretty prominent so I guess that would be a little tricky but do able with practice.
I haven’t seen him for ages, he is fucking great though, struggled to keep my laugh in first time I saw him and he didn’t even thank the audience after the hippie chick who was in before him made a big insincere song and dance about her gratitude to the sound guy and everyone for coming along.

You're fighting an uphill battle. No one in the guitar industry says stock Ibanez pickups sound good. That is why everyone replaces them.
If your guitar didn't come stock with DiMarzios, EMGs, or Duncans you fucked up. Gibson is the only company with decent OEM pickups, but they can't get the gutiar part right.
I might just fuck about on the piano and try and come up with an arrangement through trial and error, I have a digital piano that has been gathering dust for ages. I already had this little solo in mind before my friend set it to music.
that's not very swedish of you and swedes are the most metal people so that's not very metal of you
Joshua Barnes
>appeal to authority lol you lost the argument
Xavier Taylor
I haven't played guitar seriously in 8 years. What' gear "in" now? Does everyone slap the 81/85 set on and call it a day? Did Seymour Duncan Blackouts ever catch on? How's Line 6 doing? I have no interest in getting back in to playing, just want to know how things have changed if at all.
Nolan Sanchez
The Finnish and Japanese are the most metal people. A theoretical finno-nippon hybrid would be the most metal person alive.
Wyatt Morgan
Enjoy your thin tone homie
Jonathan Peterson
What are you talking about
Daniel Torres
The 81/85 are the most hated pickups on earth Everyone likes EMGs other stuff, which has gotten good (fat 50s) and dimarzios > duncans. blackouts never made it for sounding too muddy. Ibanez is popular with the youngsters. Line 6 is still shit
Christopher Butler
enjoy your logical fallacies mr. day laborer
Angel Watson
>rent free

Na, that's bandwagoning he used.
Michael Flores
Pretty much the same as it was 8 years ago, barely anything's changed in that short amount of time. The biggest things to note is gibson filled for bankrupsy but are out of it (soon back), ESP went down the shitter, Blackstar got more popular. That's the only big changes I can think of off the top of my head.
Aiden Moore
i won
Angel Brown
>ESP went down the shitter
/gg/ meme all they did was change the name of the LTD elites to E-II the QC meme is i assume, based off some forum posts and one guy here who got a massively discounted M-II with a dark spot on the neck

I’m not sure if he’s just autistic or if it’s a stage act, you should always do a quick thanks to the audience at the end of your set though.
I absolutely hate stage patter though, it took a while for me to get confident about silence between songs but once you get used to it feels good. It’s only awkward if you use alternate tunings a lot, I avoid them except simple ones like drop D so I don’t have to have massive waits between my songs.
Tyler Gutierrez
Blackstar will forever be beginner shit.
It's a meme solidstate world now. If you're not playing tappy economy picked trap djent then keep on boomin.
Christian Campbell
I mean, I do have ADD and I take medication to treat it, just not Ritalin.
But I've been writing like this since before I started meds. I read a lot of academic publishing so my writing tends to be very structured and I try to be as clear as possible. I really do enjoy talking about musicianship and guitar, and at one point I was writing lesson columns for Ultimate-Guitar because I like teaching.
Jason Powell
I try to thank my audiences by hurling my feces at them mid song.
I was trying it out and it's a great exercise in hand independence, it's going to be next level to sing over it.
Chase Baker

Jason Rogers
Retard. Just call him R~ for short
Luke Nelson
how do you guys become gearheads I'm obsessed with trying to get better at playing but I never considered that I was doing myself a disservice by not being a gearhead at the same time
Mason Phillips
You don't really have to become s gearhead if it's not your lane, people who are just naturally inclined to liking handiwork and building their own shit usually become one. Being knowledgeable and informed on your own gear and knowing basics about other pieces of equipment is fine enough.
Thanks man, I pretty much never do lead melody on guitar but on piano I can just hear them in my mind much easier, who knows, might be a better instrument for me. Going to book a lesson.
Cameron Williams
You guys know any good guitars with active pickups for metal? I already have a guitar with singlecoils and one with humbuckers so I'd thought I should branch out.
>What' gear "in" now? Everyone plays 8-string guitars now.
No one is any good at making full use of the extended range with the exception of 2 or 3 people, but that's where we are.
There's also this new obsession with crazy expensive modeling tech that several guitarists have deluded themselves into thinking sounds "like, REALLY pretty much exactly like tube amps".
Line 6 is still in business and churning out crap no one wants.
Fishman Fluence pickups replaced the 81/85 set among the extreme metal crowd.
Noah Garcia
What’s the story behind this pic?
Ryder Roberts
some faggot was crying at a gibson shareholder meeting about >gibson should donate some blem guitars to some needy kids >gibson ceo: fuck those poor stupid ass shits, i'd rather break a blem guitar into a million pieces instead of giving society's dregs a reason to live
I remember this shit. He pulled that red SG out of some kids hand at the meeting and smashed it into the stage behind him. He accidentally cut her hand when he did it and she had to go get stitches.
Jason Bell
I like your bullshit story but I googled it and the truth is even dumber, smashed it when promoting the new firebird. How’s that for showing faith in the quality of your products?
Henry Brown
piece of shit lying in a wheelbarrow?
