why do scandinavian musicians always sing in english? even "anti-imperialist" punk bands usually do.

Probably to reach a wider audience. And most people from non-english speaking countries are so used to English vocals in music that music in native language sounds silly. German lyrics in music to me sound just annoying most of the time and I think that's a common thing.
Reach a wider audience. Being "big" in Sweden doesn't generate enough money.
As someone from Scandinavia, I think it's because the language (Norwegian in this case), is fairly harsh and direct sounding compared to the more tonally varried English.
Yes you can write great sounding songs in Norwegian, but you can get more out of it through the english language. Also bigger reach, as not that many people speak these languages in the world
globalist post-punk
English speaking countries are the only ones with money
All Scandi countries have more BNP per capita than UK, Norway beats USA
This
Nah danish sound great in music.
Most languages have imperialist roots. If being imperialist means you can't speak a language that originally came from a current or former imperialist superpower then they'd be allowed only to speak like Esperanto.
>makes dumb point
>gets trips
MOOOOOODS
They don't. There are tons of artists that sing in their own language.
Enough money for what? A lot of scandi artists can live off their music. One festival gig is probably a months salary for a normal worker.
to reach wider audience and because Scandinavian languages sound bad
doesn't Scandinavian have a huge english speaking pop.?
Because most non-anglosphere people are fluent in their own language, plus English.
lol jakob hellman based
great as novelty, shit for long term listening
any dumb shit sounds good in english
Money and audience are the two biggest reasons, but that aside
Almost all of the music we (scandinavians) listen to comes from the US or the UK, and because of that, all the music we interact with is in english. That's why whenever you hear something sung in your mother tounge that aren't either children's songs or traditional music, it feels... off. It's kinda weird to explain. I don't think it only applies to scandinavia, but I think the effect is greatest here, due to the scandinavian countries are the ones that have had the biggest outside influence in europe from the US and the UK when it comes to music n shit, combined with the fact that there has been relatively few scandinavian musicians that made it big, even domestically, until the past ~20 years
Not true at all. Swe stuff only tho but there are like thousands of these punk bands that only sing in Swedish.

>live in country with 200 million people
>half of young musicians, particularly "alt" ones only sing in english
That shit fucking annoys me.
I can kind of understand scandinavians doing that because music is a tough business and you don't want an audience of twelve people, but if your tongue has hundreds of millions of speakers you shouldn't have to do this shit.
If you don't get tears in your eyes while listening to this, please get the fuck out of my country.

Nigeria?
No, Brazil, and I think english is the official language of Nigeria
Fuck those emos, listen to old dogs Ratos De Porão instead.
because they're ameriboo faggots with no native culture
I was joking I've guessed it's Brazil
I guess "alt" is more popular in English speaking countries and also if it's in English whole world can listen it.
only immigrant thugs make music in our language
>I was joking I've guessed it's Brazil
oh sorry i'm embarrassed now
so they won't hear how cringy their lyrics are

This is now post best punk band in your mother tongue that isnt english

>Nah danish sound great in music.
It's not that I dispute this or anything, but care to give a few examples?
Because english along with spanish are the only languages that sound good when it comes to singing.
Prove me wrong

oh my god
and he even used one of those twitter joke templates oh no
I don't understand the language at all but the Swedish version of pic related sounds so much better than the English
there's like ten different languages in Scandinavia isn't there?
Four, maybe five if you count that one dialect in Sweden that's so distant from the other dialects.
The official languages would be:
Norwegian, Swedish, Danish, Sampi
This does not count the dialects or written languages
oh, ok cool.
sorry about that I thought there was more
Suomi
>MUH
But i agree with you, the best band in Brazil sings in english tho(angra), also, if they sing in portuguese they will have to contend with the funk, axe and pagode culture, better to gamble on the international market
>be norwegian kid
>start to like music
>listen to a bunch of english music because all the good music is english-speaking
>start writing music yourself
>it comes out naturally in english because that's what you listen to and want to emulate
even the music in norway that is sung in norwegian is some sort of country rip-off, some sort of hip-hop or a some lame folk singer playing three chords.
Even if you want to sing traditional norwegian stuff, that's all in archaic, extremely regional dialects that is actually even harder for a post-post-modern norwegian to sing than regular english.
It isnt
Scandinavia's biggest band, sings in swedish.

Yes it is. Many people that I know barely listen to music with german lyrics because they believe it sounds cringy. English lyrics might suck often too, but it's less obvious when in a foreign language. When german lyrics are dumb (and they often are) and you can understand every word perfectly it just sounds stupid to many people. But maybe it also has something to do with the fact that I am from Austria and most german music I know is from Germany and has a thick german accent which sounds bad to me.
Finland isn't Scandinavia due to their heritage not matching ours. They are a Northern country though.
