This album completely ruined In Rainbows for me. It was my favorite radiohead album, better than kid a or okc in my mind. Now it just feels so samey and doesn't have the replayability i used to think it had. I think radiohead focused entirely on mastering this type of sound in this album, and they achieved that mastery, so InRainbows feels so unnecessary now. Fuck, I'm scared of listening to other artists earlier stuff now. Did this ever happen to you mu/?

bump

Almost agree with you but HTTT has a lot of filler whereas IR has none

I don't know man, now In Rainbows feels like it's all filler. I just can't listen to it again

the only songs worth a damn on IR are jigsaw falling into place, weird fishes, and body snatchers. everything else is so booooring

Damn that sucks, I mean I've listened to Weird Fishes at least 100 times and i'm still not sick of it

House of Cards is the best radiohead song tho

15 step is pretty cool

this, IR is boring and samey and even the songs that stand out like the ones you mentioned don't stand out much

This is the exact opposite. HTTT came out, it was good if unfocused and poorly sequenced. Then they released an album with a similar sound but tight and consistent. Now there's no point listening to the whole thing through, just the odd track as and when.

You’re right 15 Step isn’t terrible either. So 4/10 songs on the album are worth revisiting. I’m not saying it’s a boring album because my attention span is low or I’m a pleb either. I’m saying it because the rest of the songs all follow pretty standard song structures and aren’t the least bit surprising or unpredictable at all. It’s weird that they decided to make this kind of loungey, lethargic and sparse album when they’ve shown themselves capable of making interesting stuff before. The main reason I dislike In Rainbows is I know they can do better but they just couldn’t have been bothered

The Bends is their best record

As someone who has fallen in love with every Radiohead album besides Pablo Honey, I will say the IR perfects Radioheads sound with actually happyish and uplifting songs. It's truely the happiest Radiohead ever is which, while still not very happy, provides a unique experience with IR. I know it sounds so stupid, but appreciate the mood and thematics of IR and focus less on the muacicanship. While they have great fills and instrumentation, the real joy from IR from me is the Neitschizan themes of eternal return and Radiohead actually sounding happy. Idk, I hope this helps you appreciate IR more, it is an extremely good album, as is HTTT obviously.

I will give it another shot user, it’s been years since I’ve listened to it in full. But I think it’s just not for me

I promise it's for you. Read a bit of the lyrics or think about the concept of reckoner/videotape. The idea that one would, when reflecting on life, have no regrets and appreciate the struggles for they made you who you are etc. Read about Neitschizan eternal return.

this, incredibly overrated album

down is the new up nigga

wasn’t on the original album so i’m not counting it

>it was good if unfocused and poorly sequenced.
That's why it's interesting, and worth listening to again.
>Then they released an album with a similar sound but tight and consistent.
And that's why it's so predictable and nothing stands out. It feels like they tried way too hard at something they already showed they managed to do.

I see this a lot and i don't get it at all. I feel like between the bends and okc there's such a huge gap in quality that makes it completely unreasonable to put them in the same rank.

Pablo honey gets so much hate. It's a good album user.

what the fuck is this thread even? both albums are amazing in their own way. why do we gotta choose one or the other? OP you'll go through phases of liking one better than the other and then it'll change. that's the beauty of life - u get to enjoy everything in it's own time : )

Yeah sure, but now I have this opinion and I'm trying to discuss it on a board that is made for the discussion of music. You are the reason this website is dying, because you are adding nothing to this thread. I'd rather have someone call me a faggot then someone like you.

i knew u were going to say that. i guess we see music discussion as two different things but i won't stop u. and im not the reason this website is dying i contribute a lot and have for years i swear 2 god

>we see music discussion as two different things
How so? Maybe I'm in the wrong, i don't know.

Videotape

didn't even realise, and having a listen most of my favourite moments are on the bonus disc. By you standards HTTT wins by a mile without IR even leaving the blocks

You could pick out any song on IR and put it in HTTT and it would stand out as the best

Literally the only less than great song on IR is Faust Arp.

That's simply not true.

It almost is tbqh. MOST of the tracks on IR are better than ALL of the tracks on HttT in my opinion. Exceptions for me would be Faust Arp, House of Cards, and Videotape. I genuinely think the other 7 tracks are better than the absolute best that HttT has to offer.

how the fuck is IR happy, and happier than TKoL?

The whole fucking things sounds like midlife crisis.

if you had any taste at all you'd realise that's actually one of the better ones

SEE

yeah, the state of mu/

I simply don't agree. With IR, they perfected the sound they were aiming for in HttT. You can't just say something is "interesting" because 50% of it is fairly shit, and say something is "boring" because 90% of it is consistently excellent.

Both are poor albums

HTTT was recorded during the run-up to the Iraq War, so when it was released it was a pretty powerful anti-war statement.

In Rainbows was always average to me. There were a few exciting spots but on the whole, I was disappointed.

My expectations were pretty low when KIng of Limbs were released and that album just blew me away.

The Bends had always been my favorite up to that point, but KOL topped it.

The reason why HTTT is interesting, is because radiohead tried to perfect a new style of music, something never heard before from them. They had to invent a lot of stuff and i think they managed to perfect it because the album came out great. In Rainbows isn't anything new. They forced themselves to perfect something they already achieved. So what came out was a compressed album, with great songs, but ultimately empty. It's to samey and uninteresting, and that's why i can't even listen to it anymore.

I don't know but KOL always gave me talking heads vibes

I think nude is their most beautifully written song though

HTTT also has There There and a Wolf at the Door which is the best of anything out of both albums

My favorite song has always been "We suck young blood" but i think I'm alone in that part.

Why are you all still listening to radiohead?

Why are you still a contrarian?

Idk why mooh pretends to dislike IR, wich is the patrician RH album.

I love that it reels and unreels from start to finish and the critique by sound they make to the loudness war and how music should be consumed

I don't pretend to hate it, it was genuinely my favorite radiohead album before listening to HTTT. Now i can't bring myself to listen to it again.
