recording is theft

Fuck NO, she stole parts of that song and got caught. Bitch should pay.

Paganism came first, get over it.

Great, also these faggots should've been sued too for ripping off Baba O'riley

What is Perry even being accused of copying? They have completely different melodies, tempos, chord progressions, timbres, and they're in two different keys.

Generic enough to not even make a case. Juden lawyers out for an easy paycheck. Nothing to see here.

if all music is derivative, can it be integral?

Kek

The intervals between the decending notes are even different. I just don't get it.

Allow me to explain where this is all going. Theorists still view these cases in regards to how the music appears on paper. This paradigm leads to the conclusion that there is a finite amount of palatable music that can be written and that music should be open source. Lawyers will shift the paradigm to recorded textures as being proprietary. For example the signature theremin sound in west coast love in the future will be the point of contention not the notes it plays. They will handle these cases the same way they approach the pharmaceutical industry. It will be argued that R and D was invested in developing recorded sounds. Patents will be issued licensing fees will be paid. Now that virtually all music is recorded in DAW courts will demand proof of how a sound was developed. Virtual Instruments will be the source if copywriter disputes not the finite music they are used to produce.

$3 million, for a song that sold 17 million. Even at $.99 a sale, on itunes, that's low, if they stole from them that blatantly.

She's only on the hook for $500k. She'll have her accountant cut a check, and forget about it.

This is a wrist slap. The single sold 17 million copies worldwide. The album it's from sold 2 million. Even with a shitty 360 deal, she made millions off that song, and then more off the tour for that album.

Christian rap is so bad. That beat is tight though.

>integrated music

According to the suit, she was complicit, but the producers and people working on the track stole it. They didn't identify anyone specifically. Katy Perry albums are group projects, go look at the production credits for the album on wiki. She was almost 100% unaware of where that music came from. Why should she? She writes some lyrics, and sang them over the track the producers crafted for her. That's how it works at the top. She did most of it starting out, but she hasn't done that in a long time. There are 6 writing credits on that song alone, and 3 production credits. All of them were named in the suit. It's on them, and the label, to figure out who fucked up, while they write checks.

California Girls sounds like it's stolen too, not sure what from but I swear i've heard it before she made it.

It's the same producer.
