this sucked except for a couple good songs, is it a “you had to be there” album or something
This sucked except for a couple good songs, is it a “you had to be there” album or something
Thurston Moore niggas be like:
AWWWWWWWWWWW HERE IT COMEEEEEEEEEEEEEEES
You have to know music theory to understand how innovative and unique their chord progressions and sense of harmony are for an alternative rock band.
the band came a long way since their inception. daydream nation is the ultimate turn of a decade album, it completely changed the face of all indie rock for better or for worse. one of the most important albums of all time, and yes it rocks too. I didn't like it my first listen either, but I was only 13. sorry zoomie just give it some time and listen to more 80s indie rocl
I liked it except for the parts with the girl.
I mostly think your take is bad, but there is some truth to the context expounds upon.
you just dont know enough OP
Goo is better
Daydream Nation has higher highs, but Goo is more consistent
Go back to Radiohead, this is not for you
alright i’ll keep listening to it and i’ll check out other sonic youth albums. I did like much of it but after an hour it just seemed like it dragged at parts, maybe that’s the point? I do enjoy a lot of 80s alt like galaxie 500, REM and pixies
if you want shorter songs check out Sister
Kool Thing is in the running for worst song ever made.
Kim Gordon's thing is black men but she didn't marry one so she makes her band make a song about going low on LL Cool J.
It could have been about Thurston...
Nah OP, it's a "you had to listen to a lot more music and develop musical listening skills" kinda album.
Here's some advice user, lurk more.
No, you're just a pleb
Thurston got his revenge later
PLAYA
EVOL was their last worthwhile album, but their best are Confusion is Sex and Bad Moon Rising
Goo is terrible
Every 80's SY album is perfection
every sonic youth album is good in its own way, stop trying to be an elitist
This
Rather Ripped sucked
Murray Street is my favorite late -era SY
That's like saying rain exists
Nothing but truth
Thank god that happened.
no, it's genuinely a top album of its era
Love Goo, but no
Really hope this is bait
It's alright
Listen to Sister it'll click more for you
Did you finish Murray Street tho?
Yes but Karen Revisited is still the best song
Best song on the album or of that era?
On the album
Best SY song is something off BMR or specifically Expressway To Yr Skull
grunge-era kid and I agree. I never got it at all.
Holy fuck I can't imagine picking the only best song. Albums or anything.
It's gotta be Death Valley 69
Also, Hold That Tiger is the best Sonic Youth album
Uh
>Ciccone Youth blocks your path.
That's just an edgy take for idiots tho mine is clearly right
You made me laugh
Dude there was an entire album called the Whitey album
Not just one song! An entire album.
Hold that tiger was a live album tell me more about why that is their best.
Its a live album so I'm curious as to why that's their best work.
it's not a candle
>mfw nobody mentions Sister as their best
Trips and Dubs confirm this truth
Energy basically, they seem super muted in studio relative to the live shows. Their early albums have the best songs but they sound super flimsy.
I did it all for you
Is the Whitey Album good other than Macbeth though?
Flimsy?
No dude they recorded professionally.
Which album sounds flimsy?
>Debating the merits
YES
Thin, muted, then, or whatever term you want to use. Compare the version of DV69 on BMR to the Hold That Tiger one, and if you can't see what I mean by that we just fundamentally disagree about what we like in Sonic Youth.
I'll give it a listen then
Song by song on Bad Moon it is weak
As an entire album it stays as a great.
I knew you thought it was Bad Moon!
Think we've got a miscommunication going here,
I think sonic youths best song is BMR
I think sonic youths best album is Hold That Tiger
oh fuck me
best song is DV69
Their best song is not Bad Moon Rising
>That's an album name
Oh ok. Just making sure dude
Yeah my bad, minds all over the place, basically I think Hold That Tiger captures everything I like about Sonic Youth better than any other album.
Favorite song on Daydream anyone?
I still bliss on Candle
>not as much as I used to tho
Anyone else get shivers on the solos?
Eric's Trip or Trilogy
Candle is such a fun song
It was exploding my mind for almost decade
>Cant emote as much as I used to on it tho
Feels bad man
Favorite song on daydream would be Cross The Breeze or The Sprawl
Por que?
Pretty much everything I could say has already been said on RYM. Essentially I like Cross The Breeze for Kim vocals, the rhythm, and solo. I like The Sprawl because it's the Magnum Opus of indie rock and left everyone else behind.
I'd say Sister is more consistent than Goo.
Goo isn't nearly as consistent or enjoyable to me.
Truth right here. Didn't see this awesome comment.
I'm btw.
*CLICK*
Goo sucks comparatively
3 good songs
vs
An entire album
Shame Goo is iconic
They had already done so much better
Still trillions of times better than your favorite band but Goo is not a good album
THIS IS A SONG ABOUT A SUPERHERO NAMED TONY
Gigantic was tong and cheek tho
>Kool Thing happened
I would have murdered her over it
Give it another try. It was stucked in my head for a whole year. Damn great album, usually an instant clicker.
Also it'd help if you like Pixies, Dinosaur Jr, Pavement or any alt/indie band of this era.
Fuck off, i didn't know theory when i listened it and it blew my mind
>daydream nation is the ultimate turn of a decade album
Not bad but i think that title deserves to Doolittle
The Sprawl is a masterpiece. But other tracks i can agree. She really can't sing anything
>Daydream Nation has higher highs, but Goo is more consistent
>being this wrong
The Sprawl or Hyperstation
whats some good 80s indie rock
I didn't even like Teen Age Riot first time I heard it. Give it some time.
digits confirm
Sonic Youth is music for nerds, drug addicts, and art hipsters.
silver rocket or trilogy
mission of burma, dinosaur jr, swans, minutemen, big black, butthole surfers, black flag, husker du, the replacements. after that you get into the real underground, like tar babies or big boys
idk how I could forget gun club
