I don't get metalheads. They think they're superior because their genre is flashier and more complicated even though so much of it sounds like the same boring, drab, shredding. They dismiss punk as being cheesy while acting edgier than a broadsword. How do I take bands seriously when their names unironically sound like a 10-year-olds sonic OC?
Also, why do they limit their music taste to stuff that's heavy 100% of the time? There aren't any dynamics, it's just shredding and screamed vocals. Even Death Grips has moments when they get quiet. Metalheads literally judge a song by how heavy it is.
You know it's a huge sign of autism when your entire "argument" is just a series of statements and assumptions dressed up as facts.
Anyone who thinks enjoying any sort of music past a certain age is somehow a cause for concern is severely socially retarded.
Gavin Stewart
Don't act like you have any experience in socializing, metal babby.
Benjamin Wood
You "get" metal when you get its about the edge and being 100% into the edge
this made me like hardcore punk
Henry Watson
They're afraid to venture out because if they start listening and liking other genres than "metal" then all their friends will call them a fag and get kicked out of the circle. Kinda like questioning if you're gay. You won't know until you try it.
Jacob Phillips
Nah I feel like it's the other way around really. I know for me I used to listen to a bunch of different kinds of music, mainly punk but there was like a year where I listened to nothing but electronic and hip hop. Anyways I got back into metal after being into previously mentioned and I just kinda got bit by the bug I guess and kept listening to more until a certain point I realized I listened to nothing but metal anymore. It's not like it's a bad thing it's just what I like, I know for me at least it's the only thing I listen to where I actually feel anything anymore. None of the old records I used to love evoke any emotions from me anymore. So anyways I feel like it's this way for most people into metal, I know I've had friends that have done the same thing.
Jackson Foster
t. never met a metalhead in real life
Brayden Roberts
>more complicated it isn't even actually more complicated, metalheads just delude themselves into thinking that lol
Christian Harris
Well, it is more complicated than say punk or folk, but who gives is a shit, it isn't Baroque.
Brandon Nguyen
>Anyone who thinks enjoying any sort of music past a certain age is somehow a cause for concern is severely socially retarded. So if I listened to Sesame Street and Caillou music at age 30 you'd think that was perfectly normal?
Cooper Long
My metalhead friends were like this through our early 20s, as was I. Eventually we grew up, but yeah, perhaps we were a little stunted by the somewhat puritanical obsession of staying 'true'.
Ryder Perry
there is plenty of folk that is more complicated than plenty of metal. have you ever listened to spanish guitar or irish fiddle?
Jaxson Powell
>barely literate numale - the post
The point is it doesn't matter and thinking it does in any way is objectively autistic.
Josiah Green
There is more complicated punk than some types of metal too. We are talking genre standards here, bud. In the end it is all irrelevant anyway, none of it is Baroque or Modal Jazz or whatever.
David Bell
Ex-metalhead here. I grew out of it, still listen to it, but don't identify as one anymore. Easy answer, it's just how they build their self esteem and identity. That shit is important when you're a teenager, because you have so little power over your own life. Any other peer group is just as bad - jocks, gearheads, potheads. It's just part of growing up. The issue are the arrested development 50 year olds who wear KISS or Black Sabbath t-shirts in public. Dude. You're over 50, and you still think like a teenager, lol.
Connor Torres
But for real, where does the conception about the lack of complexity of punk, and it's presumed lower class, come from?
Isaiah Ross
>genre standards So, like, slayer?
Caleb Jenkins
hey have you guys heard of vaporwave?
Cameron Richardson
It was at least partially inspired as a 'return to the roots' reaction against the bloated excesses of prog-rock, right?
Adam Gray
punk is a more raw, less complex type of music. its lack of snobbiness and pretension is sort of the whole point.
Caleb Fisher
Punk prides itself of simplicity. Its roots come from a time of rebellion against overinflated stadium rock bands.
Christopher Robinson
Sure, cherry-pick whatever example you want to make your inane argument.
David Adams
Just like any genre, there is a subset of fans who feel superior. The rest of us just like the music.
I can certainly play this game with other genres too: > Punks think they're superior because their music is badly made and shitty ("authentic") > Rap fans literally judge an artist's quality by how fast he can talk > Jazz fans think their music is better just because it's more complicated and dissonant > Poptimists think there's only one valid way to structure a song > EDM fans are so graceless and clumsy they can only dance to four on the floor
And on it goes. All of these generalizations are equally as false as the ones in OP.
Anthony Smith
"genre standards" was your argument though.
Oliver Ortiz
Pretty much got the jist of it, of course it still exists as a subculture in its own rights. Let's face it, most people who limit themselves to one school of thought end up isolating themselves from society and create this.
Matthew Wood

You were doing quite well until this part. Wearing a band shirt is essentially a meaningless statement beyond identifying your interest in the band. It doesn't reflect anything regarding a level of thinking. And if you really want to get pedantic, it's probably more pathetic wearing a band shirt as a teenager because band shirts really are the domain of people who grew up in the 70's and 80's.
Alexander Richardson
>Death Grips fan
Your opinions are worthless, kys

>implying I give a hoot what you think Fuck your gay society, faggots When are you going to grow out of internet image boards you fucking spergs?
Yes, lots of people have kids in their 30's so it's perfectly reasonable to assume that they listen to music like that. Whether you listen to it on your terms or your kids terms is a different argument. With all that being said, if you are listening to that music when your 30 and it's on your terms you should probably think about buying a length of rope, a stool, and go on the hunt for a sturdy beam.

I hate those metal cocksuckers who look ridiculous with a big fucking beard and long hair and then compensate for it by giving a deadpan, frank look at everyone while wearing glasses and trying to be taken seriously. It's like they know they shouldn't be taken seriously with the way they look and they're just daring someone to tell them they looking fucking ridiculous. Michael Stipe isn't even a metal head, but he's got that stupid ass metal head facial expression set.
Josiah Perry
I was a metalhead when I was younger. I started growing out of it by 14 and by 16 I wouldn't have even dreamed of calling myself a metalhead anymore. I can personally confirm that, at least for me, metal was a way of fitting in and feeling like I was better than everyone else. I was a total fucking jackass when I was in middle school who completely deserved all the bullying I got though so I'm hesitant to put how I acted on the entire metal community
Henry Carter
Those aren't metalheads, they're posers
Jason Brooks
That's a great post. You were a total fucking retard who happened to like metal. You could easily point that finger at literally any teenage fan of any style of music.
Jason Allen
i met a gear head at this sobering clinic once, and he had two different pairs of cheap sony headphones around his neck, 3 cd players and an mp3 player strapped to his belt, all these chains, those steampunk goggles, and roller blades on
Joseph Bailey
>glam metal trve patrician right here
Bentley Fisher
Metal is too wide as genre to be generalized but I get what you mean. I used to be metalhead, then I grew out of it but I still like some metal albums. The whole aesthetics become something nostalgic and I can appreciate it. If you have problem of elitism, you probably don't know how elitist can, for example, goths be. I still don't like fat motoboomers in jeans jackets and bandanas though.
Julian Clark
