I want to finally learn some instrument.
Guitar or piano, what is easier for 30yo boomer?
I guess guitar.
I want to finally learn some instrument

Piano... the keys are comfortable for beginners
trumpet
piano is more intuitive imo.
trumpet is comfy tho
I already know a bit of guitar, I had roommate in college that had guitar so I learned few chords. Didn't look to complicated to me.
Get it then son
Learn both and learn songs on both, piano will help your theory, guitar will help your rudimentary composition.
There isnt a bad side to learning both, the piano will be harder to become competent, but it will improve your guitar playing, you'll also pick up bass and keyboards to a significant degree without even having to touch them.
>30yo
Sorry but it's too late. You won't be proficient in playing or able to compose anything. You might attain a bellow average level but that's honestly it.
Should've asked your parents to give you a pedagogue in piano when you was 5 years old. Sorry user. Only good musicians are musicians who start early. Add to this the fact that you probably don't have enough time to practice given that you probably got a job and family
fuck off
What kind of music do you want to play? If it's just rock/pop, I would go with guitar. Getting decent at classical/jazz will be extremely difficult on any instrument.
It's easier to "fake" being good at guitar. Learn the chord shapes and get your strumming down right and and you can play 90% of all rhythm parts in popular music of the last 50 years.
I'm not saying that learning a few chords on piano is hard or anything, but with the bass notes and delicate nature of the keys, it's way harder to be a convincing pianist at the early stages.
If you want to get into music theory, go with piano -- it's way easier to visualize the concepts on a keyboard rather than a guitar. In fact, every musician should learn the basics of piano.
embarrassing post
>implying a 30yo guy has enough time to become good enough to compose Jazz songs
I can't wait until school starts again
Guitar is easier because you don’t need to be able to read music and if it is songs you want to learn chords being strummed on a guitar sounds decent. The same three chords being repeated on the piano sounds shit, it has a much steeper learning curve until you start to sound good.
I started learning guitar at 28 and I am a pretty proficient fingerstyle player now at 30.
This simply isn’t true.
acoustic or electric?
get both
Acoustic guitar, mostly folk music and I like writing songs.
I plan to learn piano very soon, I want to start writing piano songs.
Piano.
Ever thought OP might just be looking for a hobby? I'm sure he knows he's not going to become a superstar anytime soon.
Another advantage to guitar is that you can buy a good guitar cheaply, Yamaha acoustics are brilliant value for example.
A piano costs a small fortune and is more difficult to maintain, digital pianos don’t begin to sound good until you’re looking at over a grand mark in my opinion.
Piano so you get into synths
eh, the ~$400 Roland/Casio/Yamaha weighted keyboards are a great value IMO
I have the cheapest 88 key Yamaha digital piano, I think the price is fair and the weighted keys are nice but the sound quality just isn’t very realistic. If I ever get good at it I will upgrade to something decent.
Sorry, correction, it’s a Casio not a Yamaha.
I don't play piano at all but this wee solo popped into my head for a song I wrote, does it sound ok?
