ffs

Their best song by far
youtube.com/watch?v=WbWhpfXisZw

Pretty much the leaders of modern prog movement with Mars Volta and Tool, inspired a lot of bands and Wilson's solo stuff is solid as well

I have soft spot for them because they got me into non-mainstream music 8 years ago

how can you fuck up this badly

lol its one of my favourites too. I think Waiting is better though. Deadwing and Signify are fantastic albums.

what about dream theater

>dream theater
They had some ok albums but thwy are cool to hate now

Tied with Anesthetize, Russian on Ice and The Sky Moves Sideways phase 1

Modern prog was a mistake

I like them but the album you posted isn't very good

Nah it's Russia on Ice. This is great though.

Ok boomer

What's wrong with it apart from the lyrics? The musicianship and production are top tier

Based Porcupine Tree listeners ITT.

I feel like all their albums have one song that's a masterpiece and the rest are all meh. I've only listened to Lightbulb Sun, Fear of a blank planet, Deadwing and In Absentia. I'm not a big fan of In Absentia and I know people consider it their best.

People like all albums around equally except first 2 and the last, In Absentia is just the most accessible

Reunion never EVER

I know, but it has the most most eye catching cover.

XBOX

Lightbulb Sun.

My favorite PT album is Lightbulb Sun.

What PT album should I start with if I've never listened to them?

Wilson's solo stuff is better imo but it's not as proggy.

In Absentia if you like metal, Lightbulb Sun if you like prog.

yes

My favourite band.
No words can describe how much I love them.
Signify and Up the Downstair are the best.
It might happen. One can only hope...

Yeah, I'm thinking it's based

My friend was big into Porcupine Tree just when I had discovered Damnation by Opeth. In my opinion Damnation and In Absentia fit each other's mood perfectly.

IS A GOD TO ME

A FINGER ON THE SWITCH

MY MOTHER IS A BITCH

MY FATHER GAVE UP EVER TRYING TO TALK TO ME

DON'T TRY ENGAGING ME

You were right the first time, your post is Yea Forums as fuck.

I don't like Wilson as a singer, and hated what he did to Opeth. However, I like PT instrumentally.

I don't like Wilson as a singer either.

SEX IS KINDA FUN

He was never a great singer but he has decent range
He is mainly good as producer

Not prog. Great band, though.

In Absentia is not metal, and Lightbulb Sun is not prog. You wanna try again, retard?

You hardly ever see PT threads on Yea Forums outside of that rockist meme with Wilson's face

They never released a bad album as far as I'm concerned, although The Incident was a bit Wilson-on-autopilot so I can see why he split them up. I hope he reforms them one day so I get to see em live, his solo shows are great but the material just isn't as consistent as PT was

So how would you answer my question?

gazpacho is better modern prog

Best album is pic related, it just has an atmosphere that I've never really heard captured anywhere else. It feels kinda cold and frosty, anyone know what I mean?

Some of my favourite of Wilson's stuff is his work with vocal harmonies on tracks like Every Home Is Wired, Drown with Me and Baby Dream in Cellophane.

listen to on the sunday of life, up the downstair, stupid dream, the raven and hand cannot erase and ignore literally everything else

I didn't say they were.

Why would you ignore Lightbulb Sun if you liked Stupid Dream
Why would you ignore TSMS if you liked Up the Downstair
Why would you ignore Insurgentes, ever
Why would you pick OtSoL over most of the rest of his discog

Shit post

In Absentia is probably their quintessential album, IMO. But it's not metal at all. They have a couple albums that flirt with metal (which is still being generous) but that's not one of them.

>PT is not prog
Retard

I also wouldn't go into them thinking they're "prog". Their early stuff is more psychedelic rock and neo-psychedelia and their later stuff is more like psychedelic pop and artsy alternative rock (think Dredg but with heavier riffs).

Love Gazgpacho, Night is one of my favorite albums

I'd say Wedding Nails, outro of Gravity Eyelids and Strip the Soul are definitely metal

They are just heavier Pink Floyd with some Tool and Radiohead influence

Porcupine Tree and Radiohead are the 2 most important bands formed in the UK in the last 30 years, prove me wrong

>prove me wrong
Okay

I think he's generally pretty great as a producer and especially as an audio engineer, and his mixes of King Crimson's back catalogue are far and beyond the definitive ones. That being said, I also don't like his voice and I think he's pretty weak as a lyricist. He definitely has his strengths elsewhere.

Four Chords That Made A Million has been stuck in my head for like 5 years.

I feel you. The cover represents the mood of Stupid Dream's songs pretty well.
Lightbulb Sun also has a very unique sound, although that one is more pleasant, warm and nostalgic.
I don't mind his "crisp clear" production techniques he's been using for his solo albums, but there's something special about these old albums that cannot be replicated easily.

I always felt Oceansize were underrated
