I'd take every shitty fucking clapton over this terminal faggotry
Easton Russell
This might be more of a question for drummers, but is there a term for when the bass drum hits at the exact same time as when the guitarist plays a note? They do it all the time in nu and extreme metal. Here's an example: youtu.be/Urdv-CTuEpo?t=19
Christian Morales
What's the cheapest 1x12 cab that's decent?
Logan Gray
Question for you guys. I'm getting an electric with a piezo next week. I have an acoustic that I use sometimes on gigs, however it is always plugged in and DI'd using the piezo and preamp. I have too many guitars and would like to downsize. My question is could the electric guitar's piezo replace the acoustic, or are acoustic systems generally much better?
Question: why does Guitar Center treat it's customers like shit? Do I need to become a famous guitarist to be treated like a person by them?
Nicholas Collins
Well, I meant one that's already made.
Levi Fisher
Get a guitar with a P90 in the bridge and adjust tone and volume to taste. Won't offend anyone for some acousticesque rhythm work.
Samuel Howard
There's not really a term, it's just a convention of metal. You could call it a breakdown when it's a whole section just chugging a single low note, but wouldn't call what you linked a breakdown
Anthony Wilson
search it on etsy instead of buying a mass produced one.
Adrian Cook
8 months into playing guitar and bass. I think I'm kakapilled. Trying to learn fingerstyle now and applying it to blues. vocaroo.com/i/s0K6v3axwaUH
We can tell because you didn't tune the fucking thing and fret some of your notes too hard so they go sharp, and other you un-fret too early
I wouldn't be surprised if this was a better player purposefully trying to sound like a beginner
Leo Long
Isn't really a specific term for it, I would just say "the kick follows the guitar".
If you're in Europe, the Harley Benton ones that Thomann make/sell are cheap but stupidly good value.
They have real V30's in but the whole cab costs less than if you were to buy the speakers separately.
Julian Long
Why does the tuning thing always get thrown out there It is in tune The fretting thing I agree with though
Lucas Cooper
It isn't
Beginners tend to have a bad ear for relative pitch, cheap shit tuners, and poorly set intonation.
Jonathan Lewis
I see what you're getting at, but I mean literally acoustic as opposed to that particular kind of sound Does an electric's piezo stand up to an acoustic's piezo system, like a Fishman?
Lincoln Brown
I know you're bullshitting cause the thing is literally in tune Are you sure you're not just hearing the comping chords? Those are on purpose
Anthony Robinson
Samuel is a sambomaster from Brasil, he retreated into the favela voluntarily and without interference from foreign countries to lead a peaceful life of poverty.
He did this to be able to focus on the essence of guitar and life, and finally become one and only with the kaka and master artfully any and all forms of kaka.
Brayden Taylor
It literally isn't, even the single notes that aren't plainly fretted like shit are off. Are you playing a three saddle telecaster?
Jackson Williams
Thanks. I looked around and couldn't find any single term other than what you guys mentioned.
Joseph Harris
I had one of those, the speaker is good but the cab is not great. So get it if you want the speaker, but if you want a nice cab it's not the way to go.
It's not perfectly in tune but it's nearly there. What are you using, an app or a headstock tuner or something? Those usually aren't very accurate. Anyways I think they're being a bit harsh, that's a good start.
What is with this comment?
Isaiah Stewart
Using compressor pedals is a crutch for players who can't practice technique
Luke Wright
Your playing is mostly fine (don't release notes so early and use a lighter touch) but your guitar isn't tuned/intonated. That's the way it be.
Get it intonated by a guy with a more accurate studio-grade tuner with a fresh set of strings, and an accurate headstock tuner will cost $50-100
a bit of compression is the only way things like pinch harmonics and tapping are audible enough to be used in lead techniques with the same dramatic effect (the same could be said of hammer ons and pull offs) and is essential if you're not a purist who treats electric guitar like amplified acoustic
Henry King

>t. incompetent zoomer for decades people did these very things without pedals.
they did it with gain instead, which functions as light compression.
compressors let you do it without excessive distortion.
Dylan Reed
Tell that to Nile Rodgers and Frusciante. Compressor pedals are some of the most useful pedals you can buy.
>balance single note lines with heavy strumming >bring up the naturally lower volume of slide lines >balance volume when switching guitars >turn medium overdrive into more of a cranked amp sound
I want to like the orange crush so bad, but damn they're hideous what a good meme amp for metal? budget 200 bucks or less, niggers

did they have excessive distortion in 1975?
Owen Wood
Yes.
You just don't think so because it's gotten even worse.
Ian Parker
alright now go play fusion and fuck off
Liam Howard
Harley Benton. You can get a 1x12 with a greenback or vintage for $120.
Joshua Reed
Technically, probably. How good are you with tools? Because that's not gonna be a plug and play thing.
Aaron Wilson
The treat celebrities like shit, too. They're the BestBuy of musical instruments, fuck 'em. Mail order is the way to go - use them to try shit out, buy it online, without their markup.
Nicholas Green
I love the dickheads on here who compensate for their lack of talent and musical knowledge by being assholes to those that do actually know something. Music has changed since the early days of electric guitar, compressors are very useful as not everyone can crank their amp, and even if they do they may need a clean tone not a dirty one.
Julian Cook
>It is in tune You think it is. We've all been there. It's not in tune. You've become accustomed to the out of tune notes, so they sound 'right" to you, but they're not.
I suspect the intonation is off on your guitar, too.
It's not awful, for 8 months, not bad. You need work on fretting, like the other user said, and you need to work on hitting the right note when you bend/slide. It's all wobbly, which on top of the not being tuned thing, makes it hard to listen to. Keep going.
Ian Gray
i assume you'd want to gig with it. that's not a lot of money for a high gain amp, what kind of metal?
I'd aim for a used peavey, like a vtm, butcher or a windsor. maybe a traynor or laney if you want something less gainy and more vintage. all of those will probably be wayyyy too fucking loud though, and you're unlikely to find any for 200.
failing that, I'd look for a jet city, peavey valve king, orange crush pro or some bugera amp clone of a 6505 or some marshall. in that order
Ian Perry
>i assume you'd want to gig with it. no, just play at home
Nathan Rivera
stay triggered
Ryan Myers
Decent, I have an acoustic amp I use. I know the piezo sound isn't the best, but in the situations I use acoustic in, it does the trick and is easiest. I know there are a few pedals out there for improving the sound of plugged in piezo sounds. Do you have any suggestions?
200 isn't much. The Orange Crush is actually a great amp, I used one on a gig before and thought it sounded really good. You could try the Katana too.
Liam Morales
>musical knowledge yeah, you're so smart for knowing that you can use a compressor pedal so you dont need to improve your legatos and harmonics

Joyo bantamp line.
Julian Ward
Very clear you don't know what you're on about and are just throwing shit at the wall to see what sticks. Improve harmonics? I'm not a meme metal player, I'm a working musician and don't do pinch harmonics. As for legato, I don't use compressor for that. I use it about 10-15% of the time to improve the parts I'm playing. I use a subtle bit to give my OD a kick, to raise single notes to the same volume as strummed parts, and when I'm using slide.
Luis Gutierrez
The biggest problem is I don't think a lot of you understand what a compressor is, and what it's used for. They're mandatory in the studio, and definitely have a place in a rack or pedalboard, but I'm really confounded by the claims being made over what they do here.
Cooper Torres
I'm not him but I don't think YOU understand what it does. Gain does generally compress guitar, and a compressor does the same thing without the gain. That isn't really a contentious thing to say
Zachary Fisher
Well what is your definition, and what do you think they should be used for? What are the claims you disagree with?
Jordan Stewart
link to what you mean?
Matthew Anderson
>all of those will probably be wayyyy too fucking loud though, The solution there is a load box, or an attenuator, but the problem is the good ones are more than his whole budget.
David Morales

Not enough to get the job done for you. Never did anything like swapping out an electric piezo into an acoustic.

Google joyo bantamp. Theres multiple in the line they copy big name amps. I have a mesa boogie dual rec copy. Pic rel a great hi gain one trick pony. Newest one is an engl copy.
My definition is what the people who make them say what the definition is. It's a dynamic range audio processor, that smooths out an audio signal, to reduce peaks and valleys into a fuller, even sound. It has fuck all to do with gain, or distortion, or pinch harmonics. It's more akin in function to an EQ than anything.
Noah Williams
>recommending chinese junk lol do own anything that isn't garbage?
Chase Diaz
in that case try to spend as little as possible. the orange crush should be fine, and I've heard good things about peavey bandits as well. try to get something with a 12 inch speaker, unless you really can't make a reasonable amount of noise. A 5W valve amp is already too loud for metal toans in a flat, by the way.
the super jew option is to buy a cheap behringer interface, and plug your guitar into an amp simulator on your pc. you might want to try this before buying more hear, might tide you over until you figure out what you want or need.
Christopher Brown
I have never played it but I have heard it being used to busk, and it sounded great. The ordinary Cube (battery powered) is fun too, but the bigger ones aren't great. The Katana series are better. If you're only looking for home use, I believe there are Yamaha THR amps that are meant for metal. The demos are a bit shit but I've heard the normal version in person, it's a great sounding home amp and nice and compact so you can bring it around the house.
I'm a bit confused sorry. The electric I'm getting has a piezo, and my acoustic guitar does too. I wouldn't be swapping them out, just looking to use the new electric in situations that I would normally use the acoustic.
Kevin Walker
wheres the speaker
Lincoln Gomez
I'll probably have headphones on it most of the time
Jesus does anyone on this thread know what they're talking about? You're being pedantic. Its relationship to gain is that gain causes compression. If I turn on my OD it makes my quiet sounds louder and my loud sounds a bit quieter. If I turn on my RAT this happens even more so. No one's saying compressors cause gain, rather that compressors do what dirt pedals do without the gain, which is even out your dynamics. And they do cause pinch harmonics to come out more. As for being like an EQ, wtf?
Easton Cox
Joyos are the same as the Orange lunchboxes - 12Ax7 pre, solid state power amp. For $150, a no brainer for a small practice amp, if you want to model everything else on a computer, or with pedals. If I were still buying amps, I'd have a couple of them. Any pushback on them seems to be the gearheads who think "SMALL ISN'T METAL".
Gabriel Mitchell
I like how you've been getting in really tight on all your latest pics because everyone gives you so much shit for living in squalor.

Kiss covers aren't metal.
You can use lighter strings and/or detune. But it will become harder to not bend strings out of pitch. You're going to be weak hands for awhile. Gaining finger strength is easier than dexterity.
Lucas Baker
You retards gotta look out for each other

The Bandits were good, for their time, but the ones still around probably need some work. For the money you'd spend on new speakers, and recapping it, you could buy something new, that's better. Sure, you could find a pristine one, but most of the ones I've seen are rode hard and put away wet.
I had an orange micro dark for about a day since I thought it would do metal better than my bought-used champ 20 (it was $40 off craigslist) and returned it immediately. It sounded like hot garbage without pedals.
Plugged into the effects return of my 50w tube head it sounded good but only then, so it was basically an oversized preamp pedal.
The champion 20 is an entry level modeling amp and actually has a good metal preset, as long as you have a good metal guitar.
Leo Martinez

Why when you can just get a Peavey or Randall?
Carson Davis
Fair enough. Not a huge fan of Orange myself, although I like the Crush. Have you tried the Tiny Terror? Any opinion on that?

They had one at guitar center one day with two 5150 lunchboxes. Being that I own a bigger one, I thought the 5150 lunchboxes sounded superior for high gain metal stuff to the orange, that could only do cleans (great cleans) and some shitty "crunch". But the 5150 lunchbox had some shitty sterile cleans.

Mason Morgan
can you not? thanks
Luke Rogers
Pre gain is before the signal is sent to the power section. Depending on the device you may want to set this so the signal is super clean or a bit distorted (e.g. valve guitar amp). Post gain is generally overall/master volume.
Hey lads I have a pretty basic question but I'm not sure of the answer: I have a few Boss pedals right now, one of which is my looper that I have powered by an AC adapter which works great. I've also connected this pedal to my other pedals using chords. So I can use more than one no problem. My question is: what's the easiest way I can POWER everything using only one wall outlet instead of having multiple adapters going into wall sockets? What device/chords should I use.
You sure it's not a DC adapter, as that's what pedals run on? Not being a dick but if it is AC that it's putting out then my advice will fry your other pedals.
Assuming it is DC, and a good regulated supply with enough milliamps to run everything (like the Boss PSA). Basically you want a daisy chain, you can get ones that'll let you power six at a time from the one adapter. Cork sniffers online will tell you this creates noise but honestly I used one for ages and didn't notice anything, but you have to get a quality PSA/chain, make sure you have enough mA, and make sure your combination of pedals will work together well when chaining (some digital and analog pedals don't mix)
Otherwise, what you want is a power supply. The Voodoo Labs is the one a lot of people get. I have a Carl Martin which is cheaper and is good quality. The main thing you're looking for is that it is ISOLATED. The problem is a lot of power supplies on the market claim they are isolated when they are not, including certain Chinese power supplies, and I think the MXR power brick. So it's best to do a bit of research to make sure they're not lying. You want them to be isolated, as otherwise it's just a more expensive daisy chain with the same inherent problems.
Jordan Gray
Sorry I misspoke - I have the Boss PSA which is DC. If I were to power lets say, 3 9v Boss pedals, would a daisy chain work just fine with what I have going? (and if so, which one would you recommend) I appreciate you taking the time to answer, thank you.
Samuel Reed
AC/DC
Carson Cox
No problem. Yes the Boss PSA should be able to handle 3 pedals no problem. I think Boss makes a daisy chain called the PCS-20A. Then what I would do is take some insulating tape and put a bit on top of the daisy chain sockets you're not using. Sometimes if they touch metal (pedal casing, music stand, part of a stage etc) they can short out and this will prevent it.
Last question: so I'll plug my PSA directly into lets say an SD-1 pedal on the top, where would my connection be to my next pedal in the series with the top of the SD-1 being used by the PSA plug in? (Bit of a brainlet Q here)
Brody Cook
Ohhhh nvm I see how they are formed, got it. Thanks again for your wisdom
Jayden Reed
PSA goes into the input of the daisy chain, not directly into a pedal. Then the first output goes into your SD-1, the second into the next, the third into your last pedal. Wrap the remaining three with insulation tape until you want to add more
(Disregard the following if your 3 pedals are modern) The only thing that complicates this is if you have any MIJ/early Boss pedals. They were designed for 12v ACA adapters, and then switch down to 9v internally. You can get around this by running these early pedals AFTER a newer 9v pedal. So you would use the second or later outlet on the daisy chain, running a modern pedal using the first output.
My man. Think I'm going to order the PCS-20A tonight.
Zachary Smith
I'm being so autistic about picking an amp, I'm just gonna let the boomers at the shop pick one for me
Evan Perry
I’d semi agree with you. I think you’re right only when it comes to two handed tapping as some artists like Marcos Mena of Standards, who uses almost explicitly tapping, advises in his book against using conpression to learn since it prevents control of dynamics when playing. If you know what you’re doing with it and need a little boost I see no problem.
Hudson Bailey
You'll love the katana
Eli Jenkins
its a little expensive tho, I'm gonna see what used shit they have up there. test it all out too, see if I can find something used for 150 bucks that I can shred on decently
Jaxson Thompson
Don't buy a Katana, literally any tube amp will sound better. Look up the Kustom Defender, you can get them used for less than $200. Katanas are a meme spammed by kids in high school bands who needed something cheap and loud for their Green Day cover at the talent show.
Henry Lopez
You can get the Katana 50 for 150 used. Contrarians on here will say it sucks but there's a lot of great guitarists using them live, as there are some gigs you just don't want to bring your tube amp to. The best guitarist in my country gigs one, and if it's good enough for him...
Xavier James
>Kustom Dude, I have been playing fifteen years and there hasn't been a single day of those fifteen that Kustom were good for. The only amps I can think of worse than them are Drive. Katanas are a meme only if you're a contrarian and don't know anything about getting a good sound. They're great.
Washburn? I have a couple of jazz boxes myself. D'Angelico copy and a Tokai 175, both MIJ.
Isaiah Hernandez
Yep Washburn. Love me some Tokai.
Blake Barnes
It's amazing how you managed to get through fifteen years of guitar playing without developing an ear for tone. Bravo.
Aiden Thomas
>You can get the Katana 50 for 150 used. everyone says things like this but it really means 150 used + 50 shipping so its the same price as regular
Nathaniel Robinson
>ibanez used by tons of high quality musicians >nippon craftmanship >yet they're cheap as fuck
why have i only just discovered this?
William Moore
yamaha too, but they aren't used by pros as much. only because they don't sponsor them they just dont spend millions on marketing like gibson and fender
can we all agree that people that play bass are faggots
Aiden Nguyen
Some of them are cute girls but they were faggots at one point
Brayden Barnes
Go fuck yourself Glen
Gavin Foster
If they're so shit and have such bad tone why are pros all over the world using them? Sure I'd prefer a valve amp, but I need a sturdy, reliable amp that can be played quiet as well as loud, and sound good throughout that spectrum while remaining clean. One thing people on here never think about is how you use your amps. When I first got my Katana, I also had an expensive 60W valve amp, modded Fender kind of thing. I had two gigs in the same venue a day apart, so I decided I'd use the valve amp the first night and the Katana the second. Using my pedalboard, there was no audible difference. The Katana is more than adequate for what I do and I would only buy a valve amp if doing recording or high profile gigs with good sound systems.
Checked, and I got one dropped to my door before for 150. I'm not in America though, it was a secondhand site, but judging by the price of gear in the US compared to here you should be able to get similar deals.
Christopher Turner

Depends on what kind of bass players you know. Some of the bass players I know are astonishing musicians and play better guitar than me. Others are complete fags, yes, and are walking stereotypes of people who failed at guitar or piano and picked up something "easier". But bass is unironically a better instrument than guitar and I say that as a guitarist
Jack Bennett
/gg/ doesn't play in a band so /gg/ isn't aware that all the nuances of "muh tone" are completely and utterly lost in the mix, overridden by other instruments
it's a better instrument for being in a band but a shitty solo instrument
hence why people who fail as soloists play bass

How often should I change the strings on my guitar if I only play 30-40 mins/day?
Parker Hall
Change strings when they start to sound bad and won't play in tune
Owen Wilson
Will it be painfully obvious even for someone who's never owned a guitar before?
Anthony Perry
Use Elixirs and they'll last ages. I have loads of guitars and used to change Elixirs every three months or so, but I realised the lower three strings last a lot longer so you can save a load of money by just changing the top three.
Zachary Barnes
Yes.

Chord progression is nice, but it needs a melody. Some of your bendy bits don't work (particularly around 0:15 and 0:40)
Gabriel Lopez
No its something i barely came up with today. Im more interested on how the chords sound together. By all means its a rough draft and ther harmonics at the end were for fun.
Jason Torres
Awesome, thanks Im waiting for my current strings (the default ones that came with the guitar) to shit the bed so I can change them to the daddarios Ive already bought. Might buy elixirs in the future. Thanks
Robert Jones
It was the little bends that made me think it might be a joke. The progression sounds like it works

no, only sell it for an american tele. the telecaster neck sound is a national treasure.
Jordan Davis
They are. A shame fenderfags need so much treble that they've been maligned and even replaced by strat pickups.
>WHERES MY TWANG? WHERES MY QUACK? WHAT IS THIS, A LES PAUL?
How's the Boss GT100 as a multieffect? is €290 a good price for a used unit?
Jose Powell
Fellas, my guitar (a Telecaster-like Jolana Iris) has (possible) grounding issues, it gives an unsettlingly loud electric buzz that enhances whenever I touch a grounded metal part of the instrument (strings, bridge, tuning pegs). The buzz goes away if I switch both the pickups on (2 single coil).
Ech... Technique is great, of course you already know that, but you never stop playing and this kind of jazzy shit doesn't jam for me over that spacey (lydian?) backing track. Play over giant steps.

>pLaY oVeR gIaNt StEpS go back to the Sam Ash jazz club meetup, Dad
Aaron Morales
When they sound dull, like the other anons say. Or if you break a string. Get in the habit of wiping the strings and frets down after playing, too.
Evan Walker
Is there much difference between EVH 5150 and Peavey 6505? Also any thoughts on the new stealth, doesn't seem much different than the original 5150, just with el34
Hunter Jenkins
no , both sound like a guitar amp.
Brayden Jenkins

Man the telecaster neck sound is an absolute trash, everybody replaces them with a humbucker as soon as they can
Man I wish I was this good at guitar, song has been stuck in my head for days. Can’t seem to snap out of fingerstyle patterns into melody, tried learning Bert Jansch a few times but find it nightmarishly difficult.
I bought a g&l asat 2 days ago man its way better imo and a little cheaper I tried them both at the same day and decided these were better Pic related is mine
If you are the kind of fag that cares about having Fender or Gibson on the headstock, I can understand, but don't pretend the guitars are better. You're paying for the name on the headstock. G&L are as good as or better than Fender, check out any comparison video.
Mason Phillips
NO I DON'T THEY'RE WORSE THAN TRANNY GUITARS
Colton Garcia
I'd rather have Ibanez on my headstock
Connor Hall
I'd rather have jizz on my headstock.
Brayden Perez
That's coz you're a fag, I bet you want sambo jizz
Ryan Ward
wish granted
Thomas Russell
I'd rather have jizz in my mouthstock.
I'm a Dean owner btw.
Parker Diaz
Typical Dean owners.
Joshua Wilson
typical jizzy headstock owner
Christopher Lewis
>Gay and lame elite 2100 >Fender elite 1999 Huh?
Christian Stewart
Salty, just like the cum you swallow. Youre too poor to even afford a korean dean oofmaster.
Justin Foster
I got a Blackstar ID:Core 10 and it's awesome for metal and even cheaper than the fender. The 20 version even has a footswitch input.
Jonathan Richardson
>thinks people actually want to own Deans Confirmed for Deaner.
Joshua Torres
Lmfao you really believe people dont like them because you happen to believe everything you read on the internet?
