I'm honestly curious. What led to this becoming basically the #1 Yea Forumscore album of all time? It's definitely great, but I wouldn't say that it's a particular favorite of mine.

It's weird and it's good musically.

memes

interesting cover art, critical appraisal, “obscure”, easily memed lyrics spammed in all caps

its very SEntiMENtal

Literally Pitchfork. Nobody cared about NMH until Pitchfork got them in the top 4 of their 1990s album list. Yea Forums just followed suit, knowing they were Pitchfork's lap bitch. Frankly, it's pretty pathetic that ITAOTS was seen as THE Yea Forumscore album.

It started off as a joke to pick a terrible album and ironically say it's good and "goat". This album was picked for the awful vocals and genericness that it provided. So people meme that it's "top Yea Forumscore" and stuff
Of course it got out of hand and people thought it was being unironic. That's what usually happens.

I keep seeing this fucking album cover without knowing the name and at this point I'm too afraid to ask and just go with it

It sounds nice, doesnt it?

lol mr potatohead the album.

this. It is a decent album though

not true btw

1000 gecs

It's not that weird.

Neutral Milk Hotel

The album's name is actually Yea Forumscore

Semen stains the mountain stops

Those aren't good lyrics.

I wished I could save her in some sort of time machine

good lyrics don’t exist, you’ll figure that out one day

In case this is not ironic trolling and you're actually a massive, disgusting faggot; here's a protip - you can click on that arrow belonging to a the post with an image and click on the image search to find out any album's name...

the care in his voice

It has a intriguing backstory and album art that offered a lot of meme potential. It also wasn't all that popular and it had a unique sound that might be off-putting to standard pop/rock listeners, which made it a le epic patrician album back in the day. It's also very good.
