>decide to try and get into noise music >put on a few Merzbow records >most songs sound like either radio/tv static, a vacuum cleaner or someone playing drums around a guitar feedback loop
Am I missing something? I thought I would like noise music, as I like noise rock and shoegaze
You might lime Merzbeat if you wanna listen to Merzbow that isnt just heavily static shit. If you want a noise oriented record thats easier to listen to then i'd recommend Z Rock Hawaii. I don't like bass boosted static noise music but some of the genre is pretty enjoyable.
Henry Murphy
*like
Anthony Sullivan
Check out The Gosling's and Yellow Swans and then ease into it.
Joseph Cook
>Merzbow's guitar, loops and drums >harsh noise
Nolan Phillips
just listen to anal cunt, you bitch boy
David Anderson
>Merzbow >heavily static
Kayden Harris
not noise
Jack Jones
Merzbow is not noise either.
Michael Watson
>I like classic rock, so I thought I should get into heavy metal >Put on a few Teitanblood records >It's just blast beats and ÖÖÖUUUUGGHS
Jordan Wright
Thanks, I'll check those guys out next.
I liked Merzbeat. A couple of those birsmd concept albums are ok
Fair. I assumed it would be "just noise", but also something to hook me in. Guess I'm a pleb.
Some of Merzbow's stuff has drums, at least. Not sure if it makes it fake noise music or not, but it's there
Fair enough. What would you consider real noise then
James Scott
Some early Mauthausen Orchestra tapes, for instance.
Eli Taylor
Some Hands To tapes are good noise too.
Julian Richardson
Chop Shop's "Powerdrunk" is a masterpiece, in the noise collage style.
Brayden Fisher
The "Chop Shop plays Emil Beaulieau" CD was a good noise album too.
Liam Campbell
Nice. I'll check them out, thanks!
Landon Sanchez
First of all you have to be a really sick/evil/mentally fucked up person to enjoy harsh noise or power electronics. Like extreme mealfags but worse - think Nazi, pedo, serial killer, rapist, literal shit and piss eater. Not even memeing, that's what the interests of pretty much all prominent noise/industrial musicians and listeners generally are
Jeremiah Jones
Another good one : Zone Nord - "Marché noir / Denrées diverses" LP
Michael Wilson
mauthausen orchestra are power electronics that also work proto-harsh noise in a way
if you want harsh noise with vocals then PE is for you
Anthony Morris
Checked and good taste man, do you have a RYM?
Blake Brooks
Yeah, it legit seems like most are Nazis, pedos, etc. Not sure what attracts them to power noise.
I get a "well that's neat i guess, but I'd never really listen to it" vibe from what I've heard
Zachary Murphy
>decide to try and get into noise music
why, wtf were you expecting? stop going here, you've been here so long that your mind's been warped.
I had listened to noise rock, industrial, shoegaze, etc., for a while. Thought I'd broaden my taste.
Also >only people on mu listen to noise music
I mean, I should leave here, but come on
Gavin Gray
I listen to a lot of noise/electroacoustic/concrete and such and while I don't have weird deviant interests, I am fairly mentally ill, I think there's definitely a correlation. Same with enjoying avant garde stream of consciousness cinema etc
Cooper Barnes
Or mentally ill. No offense. Just seems like there's a correlation for some reason. Wonder why.
What attracts you to it?
Isaac Turner
This PE thing was boosted by Tesco org when they issued some Grey Wolves stuff, if I recall correctly. I don't remember hearing about "Power Electronics" in the late 80s when I listened to those Mauthausen Orchestra tapes.
Ryder Taylor
nope, the term was coined by the founder of whitehouse to explain their sound, some people followed the movemet and others got classified by such
Jayden Rodriguez
Hanatarash
Bentley Torres
I said "boosted", not "coined". It's Tesco Org. who made huge marketing promotion about "Power Electronics" in the 90s. Before that, PE was maybe a "coined" term but it was'nt a widely used term.
Jaxon Thompson
>guitar >noise
Gabriel Morales
Or maybe it was "Heavy Electronics", I can't remember correctly...
Sebastian Ortiz
It's unironically more tolerable/enjoyable to me than like 75% of chart/popular music, I enjoy the harsh and chaotic textural experience I get from the more experimental genres. Probably something similar to autistic stimming as well. Is PE just harsh noise with vocals? I know Ramleh gets classified as such and it's mostly instrumental
Benjamin Collins
usually soon to be genres are shared and discussed in closed circles before reaching the general public, im not denying your experience of listening to some mauthausen tapes back in the day but that doesnt mean it wasnt a concept in peoples minds, because then there wouldnt be the early copy cats. i guess yo just didnt know the right people
Wyatt Edwards
Also, at the very start, Whitehouse defined their music as "Rock'n'roll". They created Whitehouse to make true Rock'n'roll.
early ramleh is power electronics but its on the more atmospheric side of things. and PE can be seen as the step before harsh noise, the last remnants of melody and structure
Eli Jackson
Back in the days there was no Internet. Those tapes were sold via Mail orders, we had tape lists with short descriptions in the mail box, at first they were small lists, one page, and then they became bigger and bigger. All the people who bought those tapes knew very well how the music was described, because of the descriptions on these mail order lists. Here in Europe we had Nuit & Brouillard, SFCR, Front de l'est, Artwaare, Tesco... but we bought tapes directly from the artists too, the addresses were on the tape's artwork, so we sent letters to the artists to have printed lists. And I'm pretty sure the PE term appeared in those lists in the early 90s, not before.
Blake Hernandez
oh so like the intermediary between industrial and pure noise?
Evan Smith
never heard of word of mouth? just because you dont see it written down anywhere doesnt mean it never was. i mean thanks for your life story but i dont really know what youre arguing
Juan Powell
exactly
Anthony Hernandez
If you wanna know how people described this music, just look at how they described it on the lists they sent by mail to the people who bought this music. If you don't have a box full of those old lists from the 80s and 90s, just don't pretend to know better than those who lived it. This was early Xer culture, and if you are not an early Xer, just deal with your own culture and stop lecturing us about our own culture.
Ian Wood
stop trying to be the wise old man in a group of what you think is a bunch of people in their mid 20s. most people nowadays classify mauthausen orchestra as PE and if you cant see then youre a fucking retard. your stupid origin story had nothing to do with my initial post.
Connor Turner
I went to meezbow's gig in Melbourne. Everyone seemed like relatively well adjusted individuals, plenty of people middle age and older as well.
Lucas Gonzalez
listen to prurient. the most entry level of noise acts and go from there, idk why the fuck you'd go straight into merzbow
Sebastian Hughes
so what do we think about death industrial women (and "women") going mainstream for the past decade but especially this year?
Matthew Lopez
please stop bringing your weird fantano obsessions in a perfectly good threat you fucking mongoloid
Henry Wilson
How THE FUCK do people listen to this godawful shit? It’s LITERALLY painful to fucking listen to, do you think it makes you cool or something??
Grayson Rogers
youre just a lesser being i guess our ears have evolved to handle it, you subhuman
Christopher Torres
no it's a legit question, if people bring light to underground genres like this they'll start cancelling shit left and right over """toxic masculinity" and other bs, just look at black metal scene today
Jaxon Thompson
there are absolutely zero parallels between metalcore and noise music stop bringing your gay social paranoia bullshit into the thread
Nathaniel Lee
Noise is just the shitty younger brother of extreme free jazz
Dominic Price
Try at a low volume instead, also industrial is one of the greatest pleb/normie filters to ever exist
Sebastian Turner
Oh so it’s cuz you think it makes you look cool and “not like the other normies” alright gotcha
Carter Carter
no, see and there's a high correlation between being neurodivergent and enjoying avantgarde and noise music.
Kevin Anderson
no its because the music is genuinely good, youre just a faggot who shouldnt even be here
Caleb Reed
I knew of merzbow, so i went with someone i was aware of
Try some old industrial first if you have no experience with noise at all
Ryder Collins
Alright lemme record me shitting and release an album just full of sound of me shitting and farting and call anyone who doesn’t like it a faggot who “doesn’t get it”
Brayden Morales
thats something 13 year olds say
Jace Ross
>an album just full of sound of me shitting and farting Already exists
