let's give it a shot

the jazz section is too big. it's clear you tried to stretch it out, as opposed to edm where relatively big styles are struggling to have one spot

rolling

All the "big" genres of music (european classical, jazz, r&b and hip hop, rock, and electronic dance) got a hundred spots each. I think this is fair.

>as opposed to edm where relatively big styles are struggling to have one spot
Such as?

Sounds interesting, rolling.

Roll

There really was no need at all for half the chart to be taken up by random, same-sounding compilations of folk music from every country on earth. No one is gonna check out "Ghulam Hossein Ghafari & Zulfaqar 'Askarian - Chaharbaiti I - Folk Music of Khorasan" and "yeah, this was 100% essentiall listening and it's going in my collection":

>same-sounding compilations of folk music
As opposed to same-sounding recordings of european classical, jazz, rock, electronic dance or hip hop music?

Of course this would be created by a South American with a catgirl anime avatar.

rateyourmusic.com/~YellowJelly

>catgirl
that's a catboy

I'd prefer it if Latin American folk and mariachi music didn't take up as much space as all of rock music.

First of all, they don't. Second of all, there is more diversity in that section than there is in the rock section.

>Bathory as representation of black metal instead of Emperor or Darkthrone
Lmao

Bathory is there as a representative of early black metal.

Let's try it

Chart discarded

This is probably the best thing this board has ever done.

NOLLIR

Yeah, that's fair. Do you have any suggestions?

No, it's not a good pick because early Bathory was a mix of thrash and black metal, and the highest semblance of actual black metal music in Bathory's discography would only appear three years after the s/t on Under the Sign of the Black Mark
The latter would've been a much better pick, but anyway Transilvanian Hunger or Anthems to the Welkin at Dusk would have been a better fit regardless when representing black metal, as vast of a genre as it is, but as evidenced by the lack of subgenres present in the chart (within black metal) and the lumping of black, death, and groove metal together in a single line goes to show metal isn't really something Yea Forums takes seriously, gives a fuck about or is knowledgeable about, so fuck it, let them be misguided
Also, Burzum is not atmospheric black metal and an actual atmospheric black metal album, even from around the same time and country, such as Aspera Hiems Symfonia by Arcturus would've been a better fit too

Yes, I'm well aware of that. Bathory is a good pick for that exact reason, because it's an early representative of black metal, with it's thrash influences still present. The recordings are chosen based on early representatives instead of "pure" examples like Darkthrone or Mayhem.

>as evidenced by the lack of subgenres present in the chart (within black metal) and the lumping of black, death, and groove metal together in a single line goes to show metal isn't really something Yea Forums takes seriously,
What's the alternative then? Space is very thight on this chart. I would love to include the dozen of black metal sub-genres and the other dozen of death metal sub-genres as well, but there isn't enough space for them. Do you get that?

>lumping of black, death, and groove metal together in a single line
That's becasue they are all thrash metal derivatives, so this
>goes to show metal isn't really something Yea Forums takes seriously
doesn't follow.

>Burzum is not atmospheric black metal
Anywhere you ask you will see that Hvis lyset tar oss is considered to be an atmospheric black metal album, so I have no idea what you are on about.

It blows my mind they need 5 spots. If you've heard one metal song you've heard them all
