I don't believe this story. The only people populating guitar forums are numetal spics that still live in 2001 and boomers that get whipped by their wife

I can’t even start learning how to play because I don’t know what to set the knobs at.

What should my guitar tone and vol knob be at?
What should the amp volume and master volume be at?(What’s the difference?)
What about gain/treble/bass?

Also I notice the amp hums a lot if my phone is anywhere near the guitar lol but otherwise it’s quiet hum

Was that you singin, user? This is actually good.

Theyre just about done now. Id say at least 2 months is a good guess. I put them on all my electrics now. But i rotate through them and i live in a semi arid area so they dont rust up so fast. I also leave my guitars outside sometimes overnight. I was always a daddario user but the nyxls blow the regular ones out of the water. Very good for more aggressive playing like bends and such

Attached: 1564347281526410540775423068433.jpg (4160x3120, 3.59M)

Turn up your rectifier. This is why Mesa uses 2 or three. Is it really that hard? If you don't balance your guitar and amp tone controls then everyone will know you're a bedroom guitarist.

you boys have experience with these? thinking of getting the lead version

I cant find any song I want to learn on bass, I keep searching through all the artists I like but it none of it appeals to me. What the fuck is wrong with me and how do I practice if I only want to write my own basslines?

Cool. I 'm thinking it might be worth paying up for the more expensive strings just so I'm not changing them as often. SEems like the extra tuning stability is worth it also

Explains a lot actually

Blink 182. New order.

4:40 why is she doing tritones lol

You know what poes law is?
I think its worth trying out at least one pack. And what i like is that it doesnt have any of that shitty coating like elixer. What are you gonna throw them on if you do?

>What should my guitar tone and vol knob be at?
10 and 10, respectively.
>What should the amp volume and master volume be at?(What’s the difference?)
The volume probably the preamp volume, which can have a strong effect on how distorted your guitar sounds. Set it to where you like the tone of the guitar. The master volume level is the master volume level. It's how loud your guitar will sound. Try to set it loud enough so you can hear it, but not so loud that you hurt your ears.
>What about gain/treble/bass?
Set them to 6, 6, and 6, respectively.

Attached: 1538973564754.jpg (762x762, 82K)

Who else hear volume knob on 6 with hot pafs? I need all that sticky warm tone bitch

>>Find forums dedicated to them
>>Everyone there blocks the trem, rips out the electronics, jams in Super Distortions and plays gay emo shit
>>The fuck is this shit?
No they don't, wtf.

Is a master volume control the same as an attenuator?

Fuck if I know, why don't you turn it and see what happens?

Is poes law where someone obviously has severe brain damage?

buy a suhr pickup for your strat, wetback.

I'm just kidding. That's a good question.

calm down Sambo

No. An attenuator attenuates the signal going to the speaker so you can keep the signal the same but lower the actual volume you get out of the amp. In some cases though it sucks the tone. You're better off just getting an amp that has a better volume control/circuit that breaks up at lower volumes and doesn't need to be cranked

>Want a second guitar to complement it
thats how everyone GAS starts

No.

Master Volume affects the signal going into the power amp. An attenuator affects the signal coming out of the power amp.

The Master Volume control not only controls the volume of the amp, but the amount of power tube saturation. Raising the volume adds more sustain and low end to the sound.

The attenuator is used to get that cranked amp sound at a lower volume. YMMV on how effective they actually are.

Yes, they both attenuate the signal.

And what do the volume and master volume control do then, if not that what you described?

I'm not Sambo; he's over there VVV

It's the master of the volume

Attached: 26907360_2011149289210920_5513551918472939659_n.jpg (480x480, 15K)

Well the master is what you need to drive the power amp harder, i.e. getting the power tube saturation happening on most amps. However, some circuits are different. A lot of higher end amps hit the power stage differently and at much lower volumes. It all depends on the design. The volume is usually just the channels volume but the actual output will be determined by what you set the master at. Attenautors are most useful for non-MV amps like the original Plexis and stuff

No thats just you .
I have it in my dean. Im happy with how it sounds actually the alnico 2 shawbucker is nice. I want to keep it like that. But when i get my charvel im going to throw the seymour duncans it comes with into the trash and maybe put a dimarzio transition set into it. But some suhrs would be nice in it too. What kind of music do you like? Almost everything has a bass part even if it wasn't recorded with or written for a bass guitar. Try downloading guitar pro files for some song, open with tuxguitar, click on whichever instrument is doing the bass part, start figuring out a bass guitar version from there. Once more comfortable, do your own transcriptions.

wew should of spent that money on some lessons instead bruh

No its ok i had fun doing it and thats all that matters to me.

>they're bullying jcum again
stay classy and rent free, /gg/

Having fun?

Sold my Sub N Up. Not buying any TC stuff anymore... The Ditto was alright though. It's really hard to find honest pedal reviewers out there, nobody ever mentions bad things about the thing they're reviewing. In my case, there was absolutely no resistance to the knobs whatsover and they just rolled about with the slightest bump. The suboctave knob sweep was non-existent, it was practically an on-and-off switch between 10~11 o'clock. Not to mention the high frequency hissing it does from time to time when it's off. I also found the Toneprint app shit to be cumbersome (wtf, I have to pull out my phone to tweak shit?)

Wish I could demo stuff at a guitar store properly but it's just so noisy there it's hard to hear yourself and very difficult to evaluate what you're trying out.

Anyway, I'm pretty happy with the setup I have. Any other Mustang/Duo Sonic guys here? It's my one and only favorite electric.

beginner here literally tuning for a first time

I start at E and get it perfect consistently then move to A. Start adjusting A and E goes flat?? Eventually get A and E perfect then try adjusting D, D is perfect but now A and E are flat.

Is this supposed to happen with a normal trem system?

It couldnt possibly be a different bass now could it? Your schizophrenia is astounding

New strings take a little time and stretching to settle in. When you put on new strings, though, make sure you're not leaving the string slack at the bridge end. Also, these tuning problems can crop up if the string is binding at the nut. You might want to put some Nut Sauce, graphite, dry lock lubricant, dry bike chain lubricant...that kind of thing...under the strings at the nut. You want them to be as frictionless as possible there.

If the trem is floating you need to tune it like a Floyd Rose or it will keep going out of tune

Thanks guys a no it’s just a strat trem. The strings are new from factory and I’ve going at this bending them for like 30 mins but it’s finally starting to stay in tune and actually doesn’t sound shit.

I’m just kinda stretching them everywhere idk if there is a better way.

Usually you'll have a GAIN and a VOLUME control. In your case, it seems like you have a VOLUME and a MASTER VOLUME instead. They're the same.

Your VOLUME knob controls the preamp gain (i.e.: amount of distortion).
The master volume knob controls how loud your guitar is. The thing is, it'll start distorting a bit at higher volumes, like when you turn up the volume knob but to a lesser extent, probably only past 12 o' clock.

an attenuator is a circuit (with its own knob) that you put between the amp and the speakers, to ATTENUATE (reduce) the volume while still keeping that cooked tubes sound from cranking the master volume.
That said, amplifiers will always sound better when they're loud, that's because of how your ears work.

yea thats the way to do it, is stretch in all spots. A lot of people don't stretch well/properly

I stretch your mom properly.

Should be fine if you just want something to practice silently with. I've tried a line 6 pocket pod before and it does the trick, as long as you don't try cranking the distortion, cause it sounds like absolute ass.

Honestly I nust to want craft music that people will like, but I have trouble with the C chord and I can't even play ITAOTS (G to Em to C to D) .. . I have small hands too so I don't even know if i have the potential to be good... Sorry for sad rant am drunk

How about practicing more instead of whining to us like a baby. If you can't play those chords then you probably haven't even tried that hard yet. So actually try and then maybe I will care.

I actually practices everyday. I am a busy boi so only for like 30 minutes a day but I find the C chord very hard for switching. G, Em, and D are easy though.

of course, do you know any other?

Jimmy Bruno uses Pledge.

just finished singing along to queen greatest hits i. now im goin'a sleep. i did something worthy with my sunday.

Lmfao you didnt hit a single note right. Usless monkey.

For a challenge, try to learn the trumpet(?) solo in the middle of the song on guitar by ear. It's good practice.

kek not really

Every musician started as a shit player. For my first year of guitar, I was just playing along with songs that were simple enough to play chords over. ITAOTS is actually a great example of this, and so is House of the Rising Sun. Eventually these chord shapes become second nature and you're able to make the chord shape without even holding a guitar. It just takes time, but anyone can do it. Django Reinhardt had three working fingers on his left hand, which was not his strumming hand. Pretty sure having small hands is something you can overcome.

I think it's two trumpets

yeah but actually practice instead of just going through the songs or else youl be a half ass forever

Well this is practice, and its meant to cement the chord shapes into your muscle memory. I'm not saying you have to do this for as long as I did, but I'm actually pretty good now. I play improvised jazzy folky shit that wouldn't have been possible without a sturdy foundation.

After you get the low chord shapes down, play the same chord but higher on any given song. For example the C that you're probably playing is x,3,2,0,1,x, but you can also play it as x,3,5,5,5,3. There are typically three different pitches of any given major or minor chord that you'll play on guitar unless you have a longer neck, so try to learn all three of each major and minor chord.

Here's a link to a chord generator:
chordgen.rattree.co.uk/?instrument=guitar&tuning=E,A,D,G,B,E&scale=ion&alt=0&capo=0&handed=right&offset=0&fixenharm=on&prefersf=&chord=G&quality=&showscale

And here's a link to a chord designer to figure out what chord you're playing
chorderator.com/designer/

it can be more entertainment than practice

What are good uses of the pinky for fingerpicking

I wildly disagree with this. In the very beginning, playing your instrument at all is practice. Regardless though, practice should more often than not be entertaining unless you are a musician by trade and have a gig.

Having a basic ass song to guide your three a four chord change over and over is a fantastic way to start guitar. After a while, the chords will be ingrained into your muscle memory. After only focusing on chords for my first year, I can now play any chord with my fingers in the air, whether it be major, minor, 7th, diminished, suspended, and so forth. Albeit, probably about 50% of that time was just looking up new chords to learn like an autist, but I actually spent a lot of time playing along with Jeff Mangum.

In the chord generator that I linked, on the left hand side there are two options that say Capo Fret and Alt Chords. If you want a higher chord like I was saying about the C chord before, just move the capo up, and if you want more versions of the same chord, use the alt chord option. I set the link up so that it always links to G major, meaning that if you use any of the chords on the screen they should sound relatively fine, other than the diminished F#. Just ignore diminished chords for now honestly.

vocaroo.com/i/s0oaBQtdP8lR

use it to pick the strings

>tism poster is back
i missed your novels bruh

It depends. Some people like to have a finger to each string, while the thumb deals with the E and A strings, however I've always found this was completely unnecessary. I'll usually use three fingers and I get way more than enough speed out of that than I'll literally ever need, and I very rarely find myself wanting to pluck more than three strings at a time. I can't think of a single instance when I needed to use my pinky.

I've sunk more time into playing guitar than literally anything else in my life, and if I can help someone learn about it in my free time I will.

for years i went just by learning others' songs and playing along, only actually practiced solos and licks. i went by fine and could play well with bands

then i thought hmm my playing isnt too tight i need to work on the basics
then i realized there mistakes on my chords shapes, my timing was loose etc

but yeah it kept me playing.

lmao you're not helping anybody, do you know where you are?

I've been thinking one thing about it. I read that not using the pinky to hold a beer or a glass makes you look more attractive to women because subconsciously it looks like you're in control and chill, instead of holding the beer desperately with all your fingers.

But then with guitar, using all your fingers can be impressive for some.

I myself was more into the 3 finger bluesrock players of the 70s when I started.

Well when you're playing guitar, it shouldn't be to impress others in my opinion. From what I can tell, there is actually not reason to play a six string instrument with more than 3 fingers. If you really want to go fast, learn to alternative pick with each finger.

The best way to avoid loose timing is to count along with the music you're playing to early on, and when you're playing without music to use a metronome. I feel like there have been thousands on thousands of potentially amazing guitar players out there that never got past the amateur phase because they got bored of the initial monotony, so playing along is very important in my eyes. It will also teach your rhythms that will subconsciously help you out in the long run.

yes playing along is important indeed but one should practice the basics along with it. i didnt learn to count from the start because i read on the internet that i can get away with it if i can play along to songs. improvising more often than not felt like walking on the dark because i didnt have a clue about time divisions.

And yet again none have proven to be a better player than him. jcum is far from great but the aforementioned fact alone leads me to believe we've got some serious shitters here in /gg/.

Scale lenght, google it. Anyone can become a great player. Don't worry about sucking; once you become competent you'll discover just how much you suck and that's a good thing.

>so try to learn all three of each major and minor chord.

You talk about fundamentals but that's not how you learn the fundamentals. Practice the major scale until you see it in your dreams. Practice it in every possible way, in every possible key in every possible position. Learn to play every triad in it, in every key in every position. Know the names of every note in every key. Know every note in every triad. Extend the triad to include 7ths and know every note. Do this with the natural minor scale. Great. Now the harmonic, now the harmonic minor, now the melodic, the bebop scale, the blues scale, altered scales, pentatonic scales. This is the kind of foundation which enables you do actually play and understand music. Throw in a bit of theory and, to the average joe, you're a musical wizard who modulates, reharmonizes and embelishes any chord progression on the fly. A few hours of focused practice a day and you'll be there within a year.

I'm talking the fundamentals of fundamentals here though. Most beginners do not want to learn scales, and most people don't care to even learn anything of value in the first year or so. While you are right, those are the fundamentals that will get you places, its just not realistic.

Dilate

Lmao plenty of players better than jcope have posted here. Pink suhr, blue jem, Holdsworth bro just to name a few

And yet none have posted an audio timestamp or refuse to do requests. Isnt that strange.

Lmao you seriously believe everyone who posts here is one guy trolling you for the lulz

What?

Holy shit imagine being as stupid as you

>*sick fucking riff*
>LAAAAAAAYLAAAA

Did you buy a low-end copy?

Every country is capable of churning out shit, but some countries are incapable of balancing that out by producing quality products.

See: Indonesia, Mexico, Brazil

The Japanese guitar is a Jackson. Both Indonesian guitars are G&Ls.

>literally who wanks
so tele = obscure failures?

MIJ Jacksons are considered low end guitars

You can't be famous if you're actually good. That's how the music business has worked since the early 80s.

so tele = obscure failures?

You will never be a real anime girl
Your waifu got burned up by a fat autist

Lol thats right that shitty anime is dead for good now.

you will never be an anime girl, faggot

Boss shoulda attached a warning

just got a 1974 fender mustang

most people are unironically too stupid to enjoy good music. humans only enjoy music if they can pick out the patterns in it and predict what comes next, which is why the most popular songs are the same shit over and over again. you get a dopamine rush from it. it's like simulated problem solving. a chord progression resolves, you go "i knew that would happen!" and feel good. smart people can enjoy basic "bad" music but dumb people can't go the other way.

that said danny gatton just played generic country finger picking that everyone had already heard.

what should i play on my new fender mustang

do I have to take my own guitar to test amps at guitar center or will they let me grab any guitars I want with my grubby kaka hands and jam?

Master of puppets

Based and redpilled.

>do I have to take my own guitar to test amps at guitar center
No but you should
>will they let me grab any guitars I want with my grubby kaka hands and jam?
Yes but everything will be out of tune

However this would be an excellent opportunity to try out a genuine American-made Gibson.

You're welcome

And remember to #PlayAuthentic

true but GC employees are paid by commission
so go in there and pretend you're shopping for a guitar and an amp, and tell them to tune it for you like the bitch they are
but nicely ofc

>get it back
>it's still out of tune

guitar center is pretty well known for random fuckheads walking in and mucking up their guitars and amps. just be sure to play thunderstruck at least once

No no no, whatever you do, don't try the gibson.

I fell for this trap. Just once, I said to myself. It's not worth it, I said to myself. You're just learning. You don't need a guitar that nice. And then when I played that les paul I played better and cleaner than I ever did before, so I bought it.

>Work in guitar centre
>Neckbeard in a dress wanders in
>Smells like unwashed ass from a mile away
>Pockets all the lose picks he can find
>Carrying around a cum encrusted knockoff Les Paul standard like a bay blanket
>Smearing his greasy shit stained hands all over the real les pauls
>Stares at any girls that come in like he's going to rape them, try to skin them to make a cote or both
>Keeps coming over when were showing some customers the entry level guitars like Squires or Gios he runs over to tell them "only a gibson is good enough" like were going to hire him as a salesman if he shills hard enough
>Every time we make him leave he starts schizophrenic muttering about foxes eating grapes.

We're calling the cops on you next time faggot so stay out

>Writing fanfiction about /gg/ posters

Cringe

yeah and about the cute innocent ryuko poster too smfh

Remember when gibson weeb posted his playing and it was actually good, but half the thread started sperging out and calling it soulless (kind of like how pink suhr was "clearly stealing recordings")

/gg/ defines envy

Hi gibsontranny how's the HRT going?

In my experience the most likely people to use tranny as an insult while being well versed in tranny lingo are /lgbt/ regulars themselves trying to get over their own desire to become hideous mockeries of women

I never tried a middle humbucker before

Well there's a first time for everything user

This is peak guitar right here

I always thought it would be satisfying when I through away my first pick. It implied I had finally played so much and stuck with it that I've finally worn out a pick
well today I threw away my first one, but it wasn't as satisfying as I though it'd be. I fell asleep on it shirtless and it started to smell really bad

Is it possible to do 3 humbuckers with coil split and independently controlled coil tap and polarity switching on each of the 3?

Yes, three push/pull volumes and ditto for the tone knobs

Use a five way switch with another mini three switch to make the middle position neck+bridge, neck+bridge+middle, or just middle

what was your first amp and how would you rate it

>Vox pathfinder 10

good black metal tones i could never recreate with a tube amp

i play black metal too
do you have any other cheap amp recs?

Does anyone else find this kind of funny?

Dude had 25+ guitars. He was so traumatized by this stupidity that he now thinks that even having an amp with more than 5 watts is too much damn gear.

I can't imagine having more than two, and only if you like set necks (in case one breaks).

man, look at all those people renowned for playing guitar

too bad guitar music was wrung out by the industry and all the new types of guitars made today will never have great representative guitar heroes known to more than just guitar nerds

>huh? Oh no i dont actually play guitar or know how to tune it. I have the spec sheet memorized though. Also i post anime girls on /gg/

>hes not a /pol/ack

Some shitty line 6 spider 3 I got along with my first squire strat from a pawn shop. These days I play through a Hot Rod Deluxe on my MiM Tele or PRS custom 24 SE.

Oh yeah the line 6 was pretty shit sounded like bees in a tin can.

While the lack of names is hurting newer brands and styles, the lack of new names is hurting old standbys.

Anyone hear anything about these amps? Thinking of getting it since I want to get back into playing after a few years and need something for apartment and moving around. Watching some demo videos they actually sound pretty good especially for the price.

guitarcenter.com/Blackstar/HT1RMKII-1W-1x8-Tube-Guitar-Combo-Amp.gc

I visited a few guitar forums before and it's absolutely mindboggling how many boomers talk about getting a new guitar for what feels like no reason at all. The weirdest part is the fact that no guitar can be played as is, the nut has to be replaced always, it always has to be refretted and it always needs new pickups. After that comes a joke about their wife complaining about this mental illness tier collecting shit. These guitars will never be played and they know it. People like that only like the idea of themselves playing guitar.

>demo videos

so they sound good with compressed low quality audio that's probably been mastered on top of it all? also can't forget the demo guitar, and the demo player.

try one in person with your own guitar before you waste 1/10 of a gibson's pricetag

Yeah sure I'll just check it out in person when no store IRL has one in a driving range because they recently just came to the US. Also not the official gear demo video I mean multiple sources of people testing them.

I can see it if the third pickup adds about 3lbs.

Marshall MG30FX

I went through a love, hate, love relationship with the thing. At first I liked it because it was my first amp, was decently loud, and had built-in effects. Then I learned about tube vs. solid state and began to think I was above using it.

Eventually I came back around when I brought it to college (my other amps were too big) and dialed in a decent tone on it for one of my bandmates. Now I have it on top of a half stack bass amp and play through both together. It actually sounds nice - the Marshall has the highs and high mids while the bass amp fills out the lows and low mids.

Its called having disposable income. One day when you get a job you may have some

Well, do your ears pick up sound like a shure sm57?

But every dollar you spend is another dollar not going into your retirement. Live like a prince today and a hobo for the last fifty years of your life, or have one guitar instead of thirty today and live like a king in old age.

Boomers don't care because YOU already paid for their retirement. But no one is paying for yours. Actually everyone is still paying for theirs.

Who knows, do you have any experience with the amp or not. Because if you don't continuing this is conversation is pointless.

Yeah, it sounded mediocre. I would rather save up a little more money and get a fender supersonic.

theres a lot of mythology and memes that get ciriculated a lot online... and nobody ever cares to debunk them even though they're demonstrably bullshit, or at least outdated
>the guitars shape or wood affects the sound
>you can only play X genre with X pickups
>if you arent sure what to get, just research what your favorite guitarist plays
nobody ever says "well if all this shit affects the sound, couldn't I just customize it with a decent amp"? amps overall are under explained in these vids. guitar advice for a beginner could be summed up as "research what pickups you want, buy it in person, and get a good amp".

>disposable income
>buy shitplanks and mod them
If they had any, they'd have one good guitar

Not going to get a 20w tube for apartment playing that's retarded

heard of a master volume knob?

you can keep it below 90db no problem. it might sound a little bad at 80db though.

Yeah that's exactly why I was looking at lower wattage tubes, bit pointless to drop $1k for something you won't even be able to utilize.

They all have r8s and prs 10 tops. Every single forum boomer.

When your living expenses are already covered by taxpayers that's how things go.

They always have 11 telecasters that differ by the material of the screws

guitar construction, but not shape, will slightly affect sound
wood will slightly affect sound but how is unpredictable, you have to play the things. asking "mahogany, for warm tone!" won't work.

ultimately, different guitars sound different, even within the same make and model.

X genre without X pickups won't sound like X genre.

most amps don't have active EQ and not only do EQ pedals suck dick (get a real mixer for trying to make the darkest sounding LP in the world do strat tones), but your average guitar pickup is a high impedance dinosaur device with a very narrow frequency response so there's not much there to EQ in the first place and there's a lot of signal loss before it hits the mixer.

Most amps within a "type" sound the same.

Really.

And which one you should buy is usually pretty obvious.

is it supposed to sound shit at 3:45 or is it just bad playing
also, is roland a good metal brand

Don't forget the boomers who put what brand of strings and their pickup cable in their forum signatures too. Jesus i really dont miss when bulletin board sites were popular.

Nice one Jim. Marshall and Fender are all ya need. Back in the day we used to call people with other amps fags. We oughta bring that back. I've had damn near enough of these kids with their "boogie" and nazi "engl" heads. They sound like sh*t!

For playing guitar?
yw I had a good time

I hardly remember
It was some tiny Kustom practice amp
Total shit but it did its basic job I guess

that's all folks

every time it gets sweaty, so like twice a week
Just the body and the bridge though, not really a polish either, just a cleaning spray that calls itself a polish

not quite yet

curve your fingers more
use the fingerpoint, not the pad

That is not a backing track
It's a rudimentary midi composition

I bought a guitarlele for fun
this thing has actually gotten me to practice alot in small bursts because I just leave it lying around the room and it's easy to pick up and start playing
I recommend

>first gig
>headlining an album launch
>DIY and no promoters
boi wtf are u doin
This is not how you break into your local scene

I like to take the basic 1 2 3 (notes on the string) pattern going up and down and just change the order

So a 1 2 3 in G would be
D|-----------------2-4-5- (etc)
A|---------2-3-5---------
E|-2-3-5-----------------

Just change it around to 2 1 3
D|-----------------4-2-5-
A|---------3-2-5---------
E|-3-2-5-----------------

And then you can also do 3 1 2 and 1 3 2

basic but changes up the vibe a lot if you're spamming scales

Just learn a bunch of Flea basslines

literally nothing wrong with that

this track got me to pick up a bass

hello my friends, a new one for you

>guitarlele
what that is? Tuning?

standard is ADGCEA (standard guitar 5 semitones up) which is an ukulele with an extra D and A on bottom two strings
but you can just tune it 5 semitones lower and it's the same as a guitar
