Pretty much this. Most are bad, but their are a few gems that I would listen to outside of playing that game.

I saw Bloodborne got a nice double LP release but it sold out instantly.
Otherwise I can't remember wanting to ever own any.
It's important to have a memorable, unique ST though. Halo wouldn't be what it was if it weren't for the ost.

Personally I think that game music is way better than film scores

it's a lot of ambient, which fits with the tone of the game, but hyperlight drifter recieved high critical acclaim for it's soundtrack, storytelling, and visual style

Kingdom Hearts series has pretty good music for a shitty video game franchise.

In no particular order, but some of the ones that have really stood out to me. Some games the sound track is what will make or break them. Plays a major part in atmosphere building. Stardew Valley did this right. Doom did this right. Deus Ex did it wrong.
