So Yea Forums, which genre is the most cringe (worse?). Glam(hair) metal or nu-metal? Both had a huge mainstream impact and was each its own franchise. Which one do you think had the shittiest music or bands?

Glam is worse in my opinion. The worst nu metal was trash, but the better artists in the genre were genuinely trying to fuse new ideas and sounds into a dying scene. Glam was just buttrock with big hair.
Not the really the worst sounding but ska is the most cringe. The most worst and probably second most cringe is post 2010 pop punk-screamo
>Glam Metal
In my book it's fine, and historically it's only hated because of pure salt....Metallica and Nirvana hated it and they were more popular post 80's, so zoomers only know one side of the story, and that's that "it sucked and nobody liked it"
Couldn't be farther from the truth....and any metal fan worth their salt knows the genre has good stuff even if it is not their particular forte in metal.
>Nu Metal
In my book it's fine, but understandably...it comes from a school totally detached from traditional metal, something even glam metal is part of, nu-metal was a freak thing and while I have no issue with it I understand why it sometimes is not even considered metal by some more "elitist" metal fans, it had different themes, different song structure, no guitar solos, etc etc...this varies from band to band too though, it's a much more diverse genre than people give it credit for, but overall it introduced so much different and cut out so much that was familiar, it's easy to see why some people do not like it
>Metalcore
Same as above, and this is a genre I'm less knowledgeable about in terms of where it came from because I'm not much of a punk or hardcore fan....but much like nu-metal you I don't blame people for not wanting it in heavy metal canon because while some bands lean toward the metal side, it's clear that other bands evolved into something heavy with minimal metal influence and have no actual link to heavy metal of yesteryear, making it something different entirely
Overall, I like more "glam metal" than "nu metal" because glam metal if you want to generalize it on a basic level really just more commercial heavy metal and hard rock music, I like select nu metal like some Korn and Slipknot but overall it's not my favorite.
this. but also a lot of glam was basically boy bands. acts like Dokken/Ratt/Poison proved to be marketable to girls, so that's who they pandered to. transvestite/gay image of the 80s also didn't help.
nu-metal was mostly garbage, but at least it wasn't boy bands.
>The worst nu metal was trash, but the better artists in the genre were genuinely trying to fuse new ideas and sounds into a dying scene. Glam was just buttrock with big hair.
Meh, if you put it that way...it's not like nu-metal were a bunch of old school metal bands figuring out how to become original, it was spawned because of all the freakshow shit going on in the late 80s/early 90s like old RHCP, Faith No More, Mr Bungle, White Zombie, RATM, Pantera, etc who all seemed to have new sounds, sometimes mixing genres, and sometimes being heavy...nu metal was just a style born out of all that shit and the idea that it was suddenly cool to be a genre blending band rather than fit into some traditional style of "metal"
And hell, if you wanna look at it that way too...glam metal had as much "fusion" going on...you had blues influenced bands, punk influenced bands, bands who leaned more to metal, bands who leaned more to pop, etc etc. What's more experimental about "pantera meets RATM" than say "iron maiden meets slade" ?
>this. but also a lot of glam was basically boy bands. acts like Dokken/Ratt/Poison proved to be marketable to girls, so that's who they pandered to. transvestite/gay image of the 80s also didn't help.

Disagree....do you remember the nu-metal era? The bands were on TRL all the time just like the so called hair bands were on MTV in the 80s all the time, they adopted a modern image, had tons of fangirls, and at it's peak (pic related) was literally boy band shit of labels just dressing guys up in a fashionable way and paying to make a band famous overnight
Tell you this much though...nobody in Linkin Park could sing or play any instrument better than someone in say Warrant or Skid Row.

I think the usual perception was that glam metal was just vacuous party music about being a rock star and having sex with nothing actually meaningful to say.
And who are people to make that perception who never listened to the music? Not saying that perception is entirely wrong, because it's not "deep", but everyone who talks about it never actually listened to it. I hate that. Why do people talk about music they don't listen to?
IS IT WORTH IT CAN YOU EVEN HEAR ME
SO I FELL IN LOVE WITH A GIRL AT THE ROCK SHOW
>nobody in Linkin Park could sing or play any instrument better than someone in say Warrant or Skid Row.
Nice cherry picking. But the guys in System of a Down, Deftones or RATM were easily as musically talented as those bands.
Glam metal's image is cringier but the music's better than nu metal. Skid Row, WASP, Dokken, Twisted Sister, TNT, Hanoi Rocks all have some decent songs/albums.
Nu metal is mostly terrible with the exception of Deftones and SOAD
>Nice cherry picking. But the guys in System of a Down, Deftones or RATM were easily as musically talented as those bands.
First of all, RATM is not nu-metal you zoomer fuck and never was considered so, so let's get that out of the way
Second of all, no they weren't. There is no talent displayed in terms of feats on any SOAD or Deftones album....I should know, I've owned all the notable ones. CHUGGA CHUGGA low effort shit with no lead guitar, fail screaming not even growling, and half rapping and whiney singing is not more impressive than even the worst of glam metal
First of all, I'm probably old enough to be your Dad. I grew up with these bands, and just because they predated the term doesn't mean it can't be retroactively applied.
Second of all, your description of those albums is literally too retarded to address. If you think masturbatory solos and falsetto screaming are the sole signifiers of "talent", then you don't belong in any serious musical discussion.
K
Never a Deftones song better than this
youtube.com
Saw Deftones twice by the way, they sucked each time, let me down. How was it like seeing bands in the golden age of rock and metal in the 80's/early 90's?
Based and checked
nu metal is worse.
Hair metal was good, and the faggots that think it was shit need to be culled from the general population
glam metal easily. There's not one glam metal band I like
>glam metal had as much "fusion" going on
No it didn't. You disproved your own point in your own post. Those are all rock genres (except for "pop" which isn't really a genre). Nu metal bands experimented with non-rock genres which by default makes them more experimental in terms of genre fusion.
Post 20 glam metal songs that aren't like he said then, smart guy.
Let me approach it from this angle:
Glam and Nu Metal both sucked, but they were also only around for maybe 10 years a piece. Metalcore has not only been around for more than twice as long (going on thrice) but it keeps getting shittier. It has also poisoned the conversation about metal where at least half the people you meet who "like metal" actually like metalcore. So metalcore wins (even though I like some old metalcore).
