i can't figure out why i like listening to linkin park
in the logical part of my brain i recognize that the lyrics are mostly angsty cringe shit, the music is largely formulaic and basic underneath the big sound, and yet regardless of all of this my brain registers it as "unga bunga good sound"
so it's forever relegated to my extremely shameful pleasures playlist never to see the light of day, god forbid anyone know i listen to it unironically and have no way to explain it

As for Hybrid Theory and Nu Metal in general, Nu-metal is crafted in such ways where it's just really satisfying, the choruses are always pretty damn explosive and addicting.

Post-Grunge gets a lot of hate, for a good reason, it is a more commercial version of what Grunge was, which already was very commercially friendly, it is very radio-friendly.
But, I am listening to Three Days Grace which are on the same level. I just think the vocals are really good, and I like the guitar and drum work.
I quite like Limp Bizkit, Fred Durst' vocals can be little annoying, but they have really talented guitarists on there, it's really hard to ignore the level of skill they show on some of these tracks.
Creed was well respected before they really blew up. People liked Stapp's voice and its similarity to Eddie Vedder and Tremonti was considered one of the best guitarists at the time. Also great live.
I actually didn't know that, but I can see that, once something blows up it becomes far easier to discredit.
I think it was almost exclusively Scott Stapp that people didn't like and some non-music related things. Just look at Alter Bridge. Same band minus the singer, don't hear much about them anymore but they were viewed pretty positively in the early going.
And by the way, when I said "really blew up" I mean REALLY blew up. They were already pretty big before then and still liked. They then got massive and that's when the hate started.

It's understandable because most people want to be "cool", but few realize the true way to be cool is to be an individual...not follow others. I know this sounds like some after school special shit, but it's true. The only real way to be cool is to be yourself and be confident in yourself, not follow others or succumb to the trends others expect you to follow.
