Let's talk Grateful Dead. I'm currently listening to Dick's Picks Vol. 16: 11/8/69. I saw Once Upon a Time in Hollywood tonight and it put me in the mood to listen to something from 1969.

The Dark Star suite in that show is amazing. Dick's Picks 11 (9/27/72) is probably my favorite show of the series.
Volume 11 is actually the first Dick's Picks CD I ever bought, and my second Dead CD ever. Europe '72 was my first. When I first started getting into the Dead I almost exclusively listened to early 70s stuff. Now my favorite era is probably 1989/1990.

Hello there fellow boomers! Really dig this far out thread. Somewhere to keep away from all the squares in this groovy place.
are you lost zoomer?
hi fellow dead head. how are your doobs going? smokingly I hope. Hey have you heard the march 13th, 1979 rendition of Old Magnolia Mountain? It really choogles!
Just to clarify, am I a Boomer for liking Grateful Dead or for being old enough to have bought CDs in the past?
Both
OK cool
does this sound like any Grateful Dead song?
youtube.com
it's clearly taking a lot of influence from Old Magnolia Mountain
It's sort of reminiscent of a Space jam from the late 80s, so yeah kind of
Damn thanks dude. I just recently started listening to GD again after a 4+ year hiatus because I quit smoking weed for that time period. So I've just been reacquainting myself with the band by listening to official releases on Spotify. Can you recommend a few good 1980s shows from that link?
>*five minutes later*
>yoooo anonnnn this grateful DUDE is frikken sweet mannnnn hey liek do you have some nug? I’m fresh out brahhh haha
Yeah true
And I just finished listening to Dark Star and it's yeah it's really really good
have no idea about any of the good shows honestly I just always drop that link if I see a GD thread
hell ya
i like that
literally elevator muzak for stoners
Holy shit i just realized the movie Space Jan was conceptualized when a dead head got stoned and wondered what one would really be like. You can’t tell me this doesn’t make perfect sense
I genuinely feel sorry for people who don't understand Jerry Garcia's brilliance
lol, that comment confused me too. I've been trying to figure out what Bugs Bunny playing Basketball has to do with Dead or the 80's.
If youre still confused, there’s a part of the dead show where everyone leaves the drummer alone to bang on literally anything he wants (he has a museum of weird gongs and shit) this goes on for like 20 minutes and it’s called “space” cause it’s like far out dude
A lot of GD shows had long improvised jams that were called Space. Usually they were the most weird/experimental parts of the show
This is probably more accurate i was just going off lore ive heard from old hippies
im not that guy but i am a fan of the grateful dead who would like to know more about them, can i get a quick rundown on jerrys brilliance?
Insanely talented and innovative guitarist who combined a bunch of different styles into creating his own sound. Was a master at long improv jamming. I don't know shit about musical theory but someone with knowledge about it could describe it in much better detail.
The Drums section of shows were when only the two drummers on stage would play, then they'd be followed by the Space jam where the rest of the band joined back in
I need a good Help/Slipknot/FT
Check this one out. The whole show is amazing, a lot of people think consider it one of Hornsby's best.
Yeah I got that one on ebay for super cheap. Love it.
that's drums. Drums leads into Space
word. shit's dope
Thank you are there any other distinctive parts of the show I should look out for?
Sometimes I watch old gd concerts on youtube, there are a few of them that run the full 3-4 hours. Never listened with just audio though, I like the atmosphere with the video
Currently wearing this shirt
Don't let anyone tell you this is a bad album, there's a couple shitters but it's actually good overall
