I think stainless frets and stainless strings are the most logical combination. If you go nickel strings and nickel frets the unwound strings are still steel and are going to wear the nickel frets out quickly.
Yeah, stainless+stainless is gonna be bright. It's almost as if you have a tone knob, a treble knob, pot replacements and possibly an EQ pedal to deal with that if you don't like it.
I think a guitar should be set up with mechanical function prioritized over tone since tone can be altered in so many ways.

What tremolos have the smoothest feel with the least resistance? I've found I get a much sweeter vibrato out of a tremolo with a very smooth feel and light resistance.

A typical Bigsby has way more resistance than a Strat in terms of how much force you need to lower the note X cents.
Bigbsy is not used for extreme pitch shifting. Its a vibrato
That resistance comes into play when you're trying to produce a sweet, wide vibrato.

There are a lot of extraneous noises when you play a guitar that won't be picked up in a recording (and won't be heard on stage with a loud amp).
Why not use a locking strap instead of buying straplocks? Sure you don't get to use whatever crazy strap you want, but they have 'em in a variety of materials now.
Sounds like the neck is twisted or not seated right. If its a bolt on, take the neck off and reseat it, otherwise try adjusting the truss rod
Detune to relieve tension ,then raise the thumbscrew on your tuneomatic bridge on the bass side. Then retune.

I just got a new guitar and it looks okay to me with no major defects but just some tiny marks at edges of neck and neck joint. I took a bunch of pictures, can anyone tell me if there is anything glaringly bad about this?

A lot of those marks look like mineral content in the wood. The one where the body is bolted to the neck almost looks like someone took the neck off once and fucked it up.
Also it seems you bought a mexican fender which are known for having wonky necks. They rush production more than fender USA so you're more likely you got a neck that was sensitive to humidity. If you keep it in a humidified case the fret sprout will go away.

And every MIM I owned had an unstable neck that would give me horrible fret buzz one day and then literally the next sound clean and clear so yes I would buy an MIA if you're dead set on a fender. Only time and weather will tell you if it has that problem, but higher end guitars usually don't and multi-piece necks found on asian guitars never do by design.
Return it and get a Classic Vibe. Then get a MIA in the future. MIM is for poorfags who'll never be able to afford a decent guitar in their lives.

Hello. Retard here. I have tuned my guitar to Open A (EAEAC#E I would have thought this was open A minor but whatever) to play slide songs. I saw someone explain that Open G is the same as Open A but tuned down a whole step (which would make sense). So by this logic, if I was to put a capo on the second fret, would my guitar now be in open G tuning?

'Normal guitar' is a pretty loose/generic term, so if you mean just regular Strat than the difference between these 3 is minor. Slightly different heel joints and body shape at the best but all pretty similar

No, they are actually better made than MIM fenders. They're arguably some of the best guitars at that price point.
3 piece maple necks take the artistry out of making a stable neck that won't do this , modern tilted headstocks eliminate string tree related tuning issues while maintaining an adequate break angle and strength, the body design faciltiates much better upper fret access whether you play with classical or contemporary technique, their vibrato arms are a slight upgrade from a standard 6 screw strat, and they make some of the few humbuckers that sound good (p90-ish) split.

The elite has a compound radius neck and fretboard that is infinitely better than the 9.5 on the American Pro, it has the modern block saddles instead of the vintage saddles which are much better for palm muting, it has a superior heel joint which is better for accessing the higher frets, it has locking tuners which makes it easier and much faster to change strings and at last it has the noiseless pickups which are objectively better than traditional single coils, no one wants to hear a hum whenever they are on the 1st, 3rd or the 5th position, which is why humbuckers were created and instantly became more popular than the singles.

The elite has a compound radius neck and fretboard that is infinitely better than the 9.5 on the American Pro, it has the modern block saddles instead of the vintage saddles which are much better for palm muting, it has a superior heel joint which is better for accessing the higher frets, it has locking tuners which makes it easier and much faster to change strings and at last it has the noiseless pickups which are objectively better than traditional single coils, no one wants to hear a hum whenever they are on the 1st, 3rd or the 5th position, which is why humbuckers were created and instantly became more popular than the singles.

Yes they do, if you don't like the gen 4 ones that come with the elite you can change them with the vintage noiseless ones or the hot noiseless ones both of which sound fantastic.

Go ahead and try, it's a good way to learn that filing frets without the right tools is a waste of time, and will cost you the same as taking it somewhere, so someone with the right tools can try to repair what you did.
You can go watch videos on fret dressing and shaping, and figure out where to buy the right tools, while you're waiting for a local shop to do it.
Looks great all these other retards will tell you you should've gotten a MiA but you most likely won't be able to make use of it as a beginner to justify the price. So practice with it trust me its going to last you more than a year and if push comes to shove just drop some new pickups in it.
