Childhood is loving Nirvana because they were popular and catchy. Adolescence is disliking Nirvana because they were popular and watered down versions of better underground bands. Adulthood is coming back and realizing Nirvana were great because of how successfully they were in blending those underground influences with more traditional pop acts. Kurt was just a great pop songwriter who happened to have amazing taste.
Tom Verlaine might have one of the most annoying voices I've ever heard, and this is coming from someone who can even find a way to appreciate what J. Mascis was doing. Great guitarist but I can't stand to listen to Television because of his voice.
Those are all pretty much household names for anyone who's gotten even somewhat deep into 90s American underground rock. It's not just Yea Forums.
I would also vote Unwound. Extremely consistent, but always evolving.
