it just sucks, fuck you faggot.
Nothing’s wrong with it. Not my taste personally.
HOW does it suck?
Gentrified Miami hip hop made by a literal gentrifier. Next.
>terrible vocalist with no range who whisper sings in order to stay on-key
>basic production which blatantly rips off trap/phonk
>lyrics are pretentious, corny, and fake deep/edgy
>literal critic bait
It has bad songs on it.
>literal gentrifier
Ad hom.
1. She is a good vocalist. A brilliant one at that.
2. Her brother's production is incredible especially given that he does everything himself in his own bedroom.
3. How are her lyrics corny or fake edgy? She writes about her own emotions including her depression and the loss of her friends.
How are the songs bad?
it just sucks, fuck you faggot
It doesn’t. It’s one of the best albums of 2019 by far.
if it mattered i wouldve given you a reason.
just sounds like repackaged britney spears for zoomers. people are hyped because they're told to be through advertising
it's boring
Let me break down every song for you and why you should toss this album out:
>bad guy
All I can hear is Meghan Trainor's "Me Too" or a Will I Am beat circa 2011 coupled with lyrics which ooze cringe.
>xanny
Simultaneously rips off SpaceGhostPurrp, the Beatles, and Lana Del Rey in a single song. Lyrics are condescending as fuck.
>you should see me in a crown
Sounds identical to a Pure Heroine B-side.
>all the good girls go to hell
Overproduced trash with fake edgy lyrics.
>wish you were gay
Corny as hell, production sucks, her vocals sound like shit over a pop melody.
>when the party's over
Fake deep snoozefest.
>8
Because a pitch-shifted ukulele track is definitely what we need...
>my strange addiction
Formulaic pop the song. I'll give it some points for being catchy.
>bury a friend
The musical equivalent to a Hot Topic shirt.
>Ilomilo
Sorry attempt at dark electronica. I'll give this one points only because the production compliments her vocals nicely.
>listen before i go
Because SGP-inspired distorted bass works so well on a ballad about teen suicide.
>i love you
Simultaneously rips off Leonard Cohen, Sufjan Stevens, and Bon Iver. More fake deep shit.
>goodbye
Meh.
Album has little to no replay value. Vocals are almost impossible to listen through for 40 minutes straight.
>>bury a friend
>The musical equivalent to a Hot Topic shirt.
kek'd
I literally can't listen to that song all the way through only because the lyrics make me want to slam my head into a brick wall for being so stereotypically teenage angsty.
she's a lazy vocalist who whispers to make her songs seem edgy when she's not arsed to sing. it's wasted talent on her part as she seems to have a great voice, if only she'd use it
It’s teen girl shot manufactured as “DIY” only to present her as an alternative to Ariana when she’s just as manufactured.
>manufactured
Her only "team" is her brother.
like all music sold to 14 year olds, it's thin on ideas and style and does not reward close or repeated listening. mcdonalds hamburgers are engineered to deliver a satisfying first bite, and so is billie eilish.
>rips off SGP more than once
"PLEASE Denzel, take me with you back to Carol City! I love Raider Klan! I wanna go to your hood and wear black and orange like a Carol City chief! I WANT IT NOW!!!!"
Which is exactly what Interscope wants you to think. It’s all part of the façade.
What do you mean his production is amazing because he does it himself in his bedroom ? That’s literally how almost all hip hip producers do it
It's good production either way.
Of course. Gentrifiers think they’re above the general populations of the hoods they colonize.
That’s not an answer to my question
I’d much rather listen to SGP or Lil Ugly Mane beats
What faults do you find in his production?
>the album's good, and ilomilo's the best track
Not him, but:
>it tries to be edgy and experimental (like SGP) but not edgy/experimental ENOUGH
>it's boring
>certain tracks are overproduced
Who (apart from utter brainlets) said there was something WRONG with this album? To me, it’s just like the 99% of today’s pop music; adds absolutely nothing to the table in terms of both lyrics and the instrumentals. The sole reason this exists is so that zoomers would have something to dance to or whatever. There can be countless opinions on this matter but this is just how I feel about it. Nothing wrong with the record itself. If you enjoy listening to it, good for you, but that doesn’t mean that everyone has to like it.
I actually like xanny, ilomilo, and listen before i go.
Her vocal style only works with dark eletronica.
I'm 29 and I already know how Evanescence ballads sound. Besides bad guy and bury a friend all songs are just straight up generic teen-angst with lyrics stolen from r/iam14andthisisdeep.
Is this really her fault though? Why hold her accountable for something she herself did t do?
Ask yourself why she tries to distance herself from her privileged background in every interview, or why she never mentions the anti-gentrification struggle happening in her home neighbourhood despite being a “socially conscious” artist who is openly political.
>actual facts
>while discussing a subjective artform
Is this /pol/ trying to seem smart again or did Yea Forums really sink this low
First half of the album = pop garbage
Second half = fake deep garbage
i dont listen to pop music, now kys for needing validation on Yea Forums.
>>terrible vocalist with no range who whisper sings in order to stay on-key
That's blatantly wrong, even if I give you the other three.
>fags on this board unironically complaining about "muh gentrification"
Are you people serious
havent listened to the whole thing but i just find her generally boring as shit
>implying Denzel is some type of a street negrito
Denzel is a dweeb with nerd friends, he sounds and thinks like a sheltered 14 year old white kid
Hilarious whenever you fags are put on the spot to offer some actual critique it's just vague buzzwords. No one on this board actually knows a thing about music.
/thread
>muh critique
>muh music
dude if you straight up demand people to back up their SUBJECTIVE OPINIONS with FACTS, not only do you not get music, you're making a complete fool out of yourself and showing everyone how insecure you really are.
This whole conversation is fucking stupid
>Why do you think this album is bad?
Because we think it's boring, it doesn't live up to our music standards
>LAKADGKKL NOT A VALID CRITICISM FAGS I'M SO MUCH BETTER THAN YOU M:KAEKML
there's a reason this site has an age restriction.
Calling this whole thread a huge dull bait
if you checked it out after the hype, youll likely be let down by how average it is. when i hear hype, i expect something gamechanging, and im let down if it fails to meet this expectation.
OP is the literal god of cucks
I like Billie but while her tone is really nice her vocal range is less than 3 octaves, I think if she gets vocal training she could be really good.
This.
>billie eyelash
>sincere
>depression
zomg industry plant
Why is she always whispering? Did she record it in a library?
how is the album good?
boring and also i hate women and niggers and jews and spics and asians
it's just a gross dumb try-hard wigger chick giving me asmr.
>falling for the done in a bedroom meme
I know nothing about her or her music but I can guaranfuckingtee you that this is bullshit
and funny enough he’s the only good rapper out of the current generation.
why do black people hate diversity so much?
it’s just a dumb shill who posts this every day but worded slightly differently
cute finn
Just horrible music in general, only suicidal edgy teenagers cater to that type of music
Putting those two together was a huge mistake. Denzel's whole appeal is that he over-inflects when rapping (which makes his music interesting even if you think his lyrics can be incredibly corny at times), whereas Billie's singing is almost always monotone and very dull.
Faults include:
-Underdeveloped or nonexistent harmony in most songs
-melodies are rudimentary at best
-shallow lyrics aimed at teenagers
-awful voice leading
-very little rhythmic diversity
-extremely limited vocal range
It's painfully obvious that the whole album is just made of her brother's """beats""" (which are not that bad for something some famous girl's noname brother whipped up in his bedroom but still nowhere near good) with Billie whispering lyrics about sex or edgy teen culture on top of them. Every song was approached the exact same way ("Hey sis check this beat out and put some vocals on it"!) leading to a finished product that is stale homogenous even compared to the current pop landscape's low standards. I could understand this album being popular with high schoolers or being a guilty pleasure for some college girl with limited taste, but I feel genuinely embarrassed for any adult who actually thinks this is a half decent album of music.
shill
incredibly boring and unoriginal. did nothing new. nothing inherently bad but with all the praise it got i expected something
she has a mediocre vocal range which, if worked on, could be good but she never utilizes it on the album
her brothers production is solid but doesnt make this album any less boring, shitty, and subpar
her lyrics are certainly corny edgy and fake, shes pandering to white girls who think theyre quirky.
youre a total shill cuck who should run in front of a truck fuck you
Protip: there's a reason why her fanbase consists almost entirely of white girls between the ages of 14-21. Black girls certainly don't fuck with her, college girls only fuck with her because she has some SJW credibility (despite her virtual blackface and whitewashing of XXXTentacion's misogyny/homophobia). Music critics like M*lon and Spectrum Pulse give her glowing reviews because she's "different" despite not being outstanding in any way. She's really just SoundCloud Melanie Martinez.
so based
Bad Guy, All the Good Girls Go to Hell, Wish You Were Gay, and My Strange Addiction are good songs.
The rest of the album is teenage edgy bullshit and underwritten.
It has a handful of good songs but for the most part is kind of boring and uninteresting.
If I wanted to listen to SGP copycat beats I'd just listen to SGP.
youtube.com
Also, he's 100% BASED for calling Shillie's music "trash".
Anyone who has seen more than two of her live performances would know she comes very close to fucking up several times.
Does anyone else feel like the way she's being marketed is doing her a great disservice? Like if I listen to her music while just viewing her as a normal pop artist, I think about how I at least enjoy her more than a lot of other top 10 artists that are out right now.
When I hear people saying how she's a game changer or she's wise beyond her years, I can't stop thinking about all the ways her music is generic and start seeing flaws that I wouldn't have cared about in a popstar.
You're not alone. The "she's so counter-cultural and anti-industry and NOT LIKE OTHER GIRLS" shit is the biggest issue I take with her.
I like Oriental Express, not American fatgirl music.
It's dumbed down, trap-pop, like a worse somehow even more dull version of Lorde with even lazier vocal performance. Also it's fucking boring, but she's young so that much is a given.
It's even worse once you realize what makes her "different" is essentially her jacking Miami scene hip hop.
There's a reason Purrp went off on her, and on Denzel for supporting her.
>so, I saw your point and I just said no
please, mate. stop posting this shit every day, we get it you like Billie
Music to be played in fast fashion joints.
Had this been released six years ago we would have thrown it in the same pile as all the other faux-indie crap which came out that year.
Lorde is way more dull lmao
it sucks fuck you faggot
Lorde can sing much better than Billie. Her alto voice is interesting, whereas Billie sounds like nearly every other indie chick from the past 20 years.
But she’s an angsty teen
But she expresses her angst in a horribly cringey and embarrassing manner.
Honestly, it could do without the Office clips.
you’re making me want to put on Black Balloons user
You think he regrets touring with her, since doing so did nothing to boost his popularity or album sales and only made him look like a sellout?
I wouldn't say it did nothing for him. ZUU hit no. 32 on Billboard which is quite impressive for an artist signed to an indie label who gets almost no payola or promotion.
no probably not. what are your thoughts on the matter?
She never claimed to be political.
They make for a strange pair.
It's not classical.
I have to disagree with you. I think Billie and Denzel should collaborate more often once Billie learns to properly sing.
Good explanation.
lyrics are corny
>How are her lyrics corny or fake edgy? She writes about her own emotions
then her emotions are corny. or she's not a good enough writer to write about her emotions in a way that isn't corny yet
that being said, pretty good album. 7/10
How is she corny exactly? Give me some examples of her corny lyrics.
Probably doesn't regret the titty fucking he got.
He has a gf to my knowledge.
from my favorite song of hers
>So you're a tough guy
>Like it really rough guy
>Just can't get enough guy
>Chest always so puffed guy
>I'm that bad type
>Make your mama sad type
>Make your girlfriend mad tight
>Might seduce your dad type
>I'm the bad guy, duh
those have a nice rhythm to them, but they're largely based in cliches and they don't have much substance. "i'm that bad type, make your mama sad type?" if someone is really this edgy, or whatever, do they need to give examples of it. do they go up to you and say, "hey bro, fuck me and it'll make your mom sad bro." it's corny stereotypical compensation and it's lazy. all her lyrics are full of cliches
Actual facts won't tell you if an album is good or bad. You're giving them an impossible task and you know it. That said, good album.
Listen to the lyrics of Bury a Friend and tell me it's not Jumex-tier emo teen cringe.
Yeah he might be a good producer but no way her record wasn't mixing and engineered by people with decades of experience
My Strange Addiction wins for most-amount-of-cliches-in-a-single-song.
>Don't ask questions you don't wanna know
>Learned my lesson way too long ago
>To be talking to you, belladonna
>Shoulda taken a break, not an oxford comma
>Take what I want when I wanna
>And I want ya
>Bad, bad news
>One of us is gonna lose
>I'm the powder, you're the fuse
>Just add some friction
>You are my strange addiction
>You are my strange addiction
>My doctors can't explain
>My symptoms or my pain
>But you are my strange addiction
Reads like something a professional corporate label songwriter could have written for any artist.
>only made him look like a sellout
I have never heard anyone say this about him.
