How come Husker Du never gets credit for inventing emo? Zen Arcade and New Day Rising both predate the DC emo bands and feature all the motifs bands like Rites of Spring get credited for introducing to hardcore like melodic riffs, poetic lyrics dealing with complex emotional themes and intense, cry-like vocals.

Their influence on the development of grunge eclipses their influence on the development of emo.
Husker Du was probably the most important American rock band of the 1980s.

its because theyre faggots

damn straight
rites of spring and zen arcade go hand in hand
i think it's just because the whole "college rock" thing was bigger than the dc emo scene and many later generation emo fans don't really know about first wave

it does though

Anyone worth their shit knows DIANE invented emo. Without Grant there would be no Guy.

theyre songwriting sucked

Best Grant song incoming.

STANDING AT THE CITY CENTER
IN THE MIDDLE OF THE WINTER

I swear, if Mould and Hart found a way to get over their differences and continued past Warehouse they'd be Beatles-tier revered at this point.
Oh well, we still got plenty of great shit afterwards.

Bob still has it. I don't even know how many generations of angsty teens/twentysomethings he's raised at this point.

How here they so fucking good?

Husker Du and Pixies, those 2 pretty much created the 90s

How come Lil Peep never gets credit for inventing emo?

Because Minnesota's contribution to musical culture is constantly understated by coastal fuckwits who think that their cities are the only sources of culture.

Just wanted to say that almost no post-hardcore album made before Fugazi I've heard so far has really impressed me--not Husker Du, not Minutemen, not Big Black, not Squirrel Bait, not Big Boys. Until I heard this record. The lyrics could use a little polish in places, but the music fuses themes of desolate alienation with an intense driving attack that enraptures me. The guitar tones are so good it's painful.

I say almost because Mission of Burma and early Dag Nasty are also pretty good.
Anything else I should check out?

cause most bands who call them an influence are'nt emo :/

squirrel bait and perhaps swell maps

Thanks, I'll check out Swell Maps

What do you like about Fugazi? They don't hold a candle to the other bands you mentioned in my opinion. They're too run of the mill for me. With Husker Du you got hardcore with a psychedelic edge, Minutemen with a funk influence, but Fugazi it's just pure post-hardcore devoid of personality aside from Guy's amazing vocals.

I actually don't think that highly of Fugazi. I just used them as a touchstone. But their presence was sort of epochal for post hardcore due to how many people and bands were captivated by them. Most people think of Guy and Ian, I think Joe's playing really made that band special. His dub reggae influenced basslines drew my interest in a song whether it was fast and loud or slow and quiet. Also, shout out to Brendan's giant random fucking church bell.

Dont know either but he inspires me to make music.
If I ever make it to fame(which I frankly doubt, because im not actively trying to)Im definetly gonna mention him

Definitely check out Wrong by Nomeansno. They have work that entirely predates Fugazi but this is their best.

Their* faggot

and you're writing sucks.

Husker Du more like Dusker WHO?

I've never heard of this shit band and I will never listen to them now just to spite the FAGGOTS in this thread. Plus I can tell it's pleb dadrock shit without even listening to it anyway.

bob mould doesn't sound "cool" for one thing
he's one of my favorites personally but a lot of people just hear grating guitar tone and a big drunk fag on the surface

listen to more music pleb

turn on the news is like 10/10 sonic buttrock in 1983
it's like they reached post-grunge buttrock in their creation of the whole style in the first place and it's glorious. does that even make sense lol

This is the greatest song in the history of rock and roll

>Forgetting Metal Circus
huh

>tfw those dogs are long dead by now

i never thought of husker du as buttrock. they sound too dark and depressed for that but i can see what youre saying. turn on the news and a bunch of other songs on zen arcade sound just as much like power pop as it does hardcore

Don't do that mang
