turns out i grew up to be Frankie. What type of electric guitar should i buy next? I had and ibanez rg model before and a BC rich warlock (lel). What are some quintessential metal axes? The RG has some of the cleanest action and fretboard for shreddage

can an amp cause a fire I kind of sort of dont trust the outlet in my room
Ryan Adams
Not unless you live in samboland and you don't have a proper mains installation
>amp set to 10/10 >volume pedal at end of signal chain, after preamp, before power amp tapers it off to 5/10 levels
Does this do something different versus just setting my amp to 5 in the first place?
I think I read the louder an amp is, the color it changes the tone and some people do something like this to get that loud tone but at quieter volumes?
David Allen

Isaiah Powell
Steel string acoustic or nylon string?
I have zero experience with multiac steel but I do their multiac nylons. Really love them, especially coming from electric. The body is slimline not unlike an electric so it'll feel right at home.
Also consider La Patrie, etc sister companies of Godin.
Ryan Williams

Please detail why you feel the need for a tele in a few sentences
David Long
Its what the protagonist of my favorite anime uses
I am looking for something different than my strat, but I still love fender style guitars. Particularly looking for something that can get a darker tone. I played a very nice American special telecaster. I've never owned one. I hear they are versatile. Hardtail is cool to have when I already have a wangly jangly strat whammy whammer
Noah Davis

Easton White
>I want to buy a guitar because of my favorite anime >my favorite anime has primarily male characters
Either one is honestly fine. You won't notice a lot of difference between these, chording will feel slightly different on the compound but not enough to really matter. You can get used to either one. Whats more important to me is the actual neck shape and the taper of it, along with the string spacing
Daniel Clark
> use classical guitar almost exclusively for a few months > unearth my electric and play some jazz on it > chord changes sound sloppy as fuck because the nylon strings were more forgiving with that sort of thing

No jcum
Nathan Williams
Imo the jcm900 is the worst if the bunch. The jcm2000 was a better amp
Adrian James
I really detest relic guitars. I like the natural wear and tear I get on my guitar from playing live a lot, if you use your guitar a lot it will naturally pick up the odd ding battle scar.
Nothing will end up looking like that pic even after decades of use.
Cameron Collins
The 2000 is too compressed. But even then we need to specify which model as there are multiple jcm800 some even with diodes and jcm900s. Jcm800 master volume model is the one everyone thinks of. More live shows have probably been played through a jcm900 hi gain dual reverb than any other amp.
You are correct. The 2000 is a little compressed and there's also a bright cap that makes it sound terrible as well on the lead channels. Clip that cap and the amp is more usable.
Yeah most people think of the 2203 when they hear jcm 800, but the 2204 is also pretty good. The 2205 and 2210 are nowhere the same amp anymore.
Jcm 900s are very very common but that doesn't mean they are good. Most people just use it for the clean channel and boost it with pedals. Where I am, the common amp is a Roland jazz chorus. doesn't mean that amp is amazing either.

What the fuck did you just fucking say about me, you little bitch? I'll have you know I graduated top of my class in Gibson Guitar Lessons, and I've been involved in numerous secret raids on Dean, and I have over 300 confirmed litigations. I am trained in dadrock and I'm the top pentatonic blues player in the entire Guitar Center. You are nothing to me but just another poorass. I will Springsteen you the fuck out with precision the likes of which has never been seen before on this Earth, mark my fucking words. You think you can get away with saying that shit to me over the Internet? Think again, fucker. As we speak I am contacting my secret network of lawyers across the USA and your patents are being traced right now so you better prepare for the storm, zoomer. The storm that wipes out the pathetic little thing you call your wallet. You're fucking poor, kid. I can be anywhere, anytime, and I can post embarrassing videos I later delete over seven hundred ways, and that's just with my bare hands. Not only am I extensively trained in the blues, but I have access to the entire AC/DC discography and I will use it to its full extent to powerchord your miserable ass off the face of the continent, you little shit. If only you could have known what unholy Authenticity™ your little "clever" comment was about to bring down upon you, maybe you would have held your fucking tongue. But you couldn't, you didn't, and now you're paying the inflated pricetag, you goddamn idiot. I will noodle aimlessly all over you and you will drown in it. You're fucking poor, kiddo.

>less than 24 frets on a metal guitar
Aaron Flores
I got my guitar pre-owned from a guitar shop. Add about 10-20% on the Gumtree/eBay price but you don’t have to worry about fakes, item not as described and you get a warranty.
Bentley Torres
nothing wrong with that but cheap ones wear out and stop staying where they should be if you actually use them. remember there's always metal on metal contact with them.
nothing wrong with that either. have you ever seen james hetfield use 24 frets? maybe if you're a fan of megadeth's style you could get some use out of that many frets. or some prog/n(e)o-soul nonsense could use them.
Eli Jenkins
Some things depreciate more on the used market than others
ie: Superstrats that aren't excessively flashy looking, guitars that are excessively weird, ESP E-IIs (they no longer say ESP on the headstock. -20% value). If they are taking offers their list price is several hundred higher than what they will actually sell it for.

the cheapest bass you can find on reverb and the cheapest bass amp you can find on reverb
The girl with the strat knockoff looks like the best but someone here said the one with the keyboardist on it is the best pick ever made so I bought some
The reason jcm900 get a bad rap is the post 94 5881 tube equipped ones. The stock el34 tubed amps sound killer. Try to find one to test out. Theres also mods to disable diodes in the jcm900 it makes it have less gain and more warmth
Jordan Powell
Networking with boomers is how i got a 1992 el34 equipped jcm900 head for 600 bucks
>It takes an ebony tree between 60 and 200 years to mature into a harvest-able commodity. Ebony trees reach a maximum height of about 30 feet with a diameter of about one foot.
Black richlite is more or less the same but more stable and less likely to contain flaws Dyed and finished rosewood is the next best thing, but it won't be "real" rosewood on anything made these days unless the guitar is $3000+ new. A lot of ebony used today is also dyed, because we as a global civilization are so short on trees we're using lower quality specimens. Wenge, tropical walnut, and blackwood are so similar you wouldn't be able to tell but they're also on their way out Katalox is close but not desirable and would have to be dyed anyways.
Enjoy your richlite fretboards or buy used vintage shit.
Owen Morgan
Bottom left corner- Ultex Sharp are my favorite

Imagine everyone telling you your playing was shit for years on end, dismissing it as jealously, and ignorantly continuing to insist on wasting your energy here instead of just taking some lessons and getting better. He's obviously a fool.

I have a Danelectro Dead On 67 and I like it. It’s fun for a weird cheap guitar to bang around on. Comfy vintage neck, extremely lightweight, pickups sound bretty good.
Landon Harris
SGs sound better than LPs imo but that weight distribution is truly stupid. Nice bird.
Oliver Richardson
My favorite jcum sperg out was when someone suggested pink suhr dual him and jcum got all butthurt and seething before pink suhr even had time to reply

If your playing is that bad you shouldn't post it, just stick to occasional pictures of your gear until you get better.
Likewise if your gear is that bad you shouldn't post it, but that comes with an exception: If your playing is amazing feel free to post your gear, even if it's cheap shit, to remind people that having nice things is just that: having nice things. A neat privilege for the employed but it won't make you a better player.
Hunter Foster
What if your playing is terrible and you're gear is all dumpster diving finds but you make enough of a clown out of yourself by sperging out to be entertaining?

Much as I would love to own a Gibson, I acknowledge that I do not deserve one so I am happy with my Chinese shit planks.
Justin Williams
Which color of the tortex ones is in thickness similar to standard jazz III?
Oliver Bailey
The only Chinese made guitar I have is a '14 classic vibe tele. Those planks are best planks. The newer ones aren't built the same. I guess fender didn't like squiers eating into the profits from their MIM guitars.
Luke Ortiz
the nylon jazz III are 1.38, so the closest Tortex would be black (1.35)
Isaiah Miller
Can't go by color, they make them in multiple sizes. I use black 1.14 tortex
Julian Rodriguez
Guys, my guitar is metal. My amp is metal. The gain is turned up past 7. There's no tone knob, the mids are scooped, the trem is locking, the pickups are active and have been seen in slayer music videos.
But no matter what I do my tone sounds warm and a little like country and blues
Jack Cruz
oh nvm, the black jazz iii are the jazz iii XL kind anyway
Ethan Lee
Nevermind I had spring reverb on
Jason Anderson
Nevermind I had no kaka on
Jeremiah Young
This helped a lot, I put some kaka where the tubes go and now I have the perfect metal tone. It sounds exactly like master of puppets.
the manchild threshhold is set at three unmoving desk ornaments
all three must be something you liked before you were 18 one has to have something to do with sports only one can be related to any sort of cartoon, movie, TV show, or comic book
if you surpass this you might have autism
Justin Ward
why does the orange crush apps have to look so fuckin ugly, bros
are you really trying to say that a grown man with disdain for doll collectors is jealous
Joseph Collins
Putting a volume pedal in the effects loop is almost exactly the same as using the master volume on most amps. Some have post-phase-inverter master volumes, though.
Hunter Wilson
Do you really try to imply a grown man not buying an overpriced lemon of a guitar is jealous?
Joseph Reed
If you ever picked up a les paul you'd know that nine out of ten sound great compared to $500 gook planks and one out of ten just need to be played in a bit.
On the other hand if you ever picked up some overpriced anime or superhero doll you'd know there was no way it could be worth more than $50 and that there's no way any heterosexual with a dick over the age of 18 would want one for themselves
Bentley Wright
I wonder how many of you guys started playing because of K-on and how those threads boomed when it was airing
>That double-think. >Spends so much on shitplanks and hormones he can't afford his plastic dolls >Will still never be a real anime girl
Hudson Collins
i wonder how many people before that picked up guitar because of beck and DMC i wonder how many people here started playing recently because of bang dream
Weeb guitarists are nothing new under the sun. Just look at marty.
a Looper makes practicing more fun you don't need a reverb or a delay but most people use those i like phasers and fuzzes
Carson Jackson
Yeah, that was me. As I said in a recent thread, I love it when Pink Suhr turns up and roflstomps everyone.
Jaxson Watson
I have decent gear, but I suck balls.

Landon Nelson
But how is your guitar playing?
Nathan Gomez
Watts are for headroom.
If you have a 10W and a 50W amp, the 50W will only be a bit louder but it'll stay clean up to a louder volume. This helps you get tighter sounds at higher volumes, for example, if you needed to crank the 10W's power section so high that it starts getting flubby and distorted in a bad way, the 50W wouldn't have that problem.
Even a 1W amp will be pretty loud if you crank it into multiple highly sensible speakers.
The amount and size of speakers is a bigger factor in the volume.
Aaron Reyes
that's the cheap ghetto way of attenuating your amp volume
Chase Hill
for bedroom, recording, and PA usage volumes 10w is more than enough headroom. people with cookin guitar skills and sweet tone have used 5w amps, desiring poweramp distortion.
for playing a live metal show and kickin it old school? sweat it clyde, 50 minimum. 100w is for the real cool cats.
It feels like I'm readin' some sorta mo'fuckin written dialogue where the idiosyncacies of regional accents 'n shit are transposed down and not people tryna write in actual english if yall know what i'm sayin.
James Campbell
I'd draw the line at having more than 0 desk ornaments
John Harris
get one. they are max comfy. I have a Dakota Red MIA tele.
Aiden Walker
Do I need a strap even if I will only practice sitting at home?
Which is more versatile, Str/Ang or Str/Str cable?

I fucking hate this turd. No matter what guitar he's playing somehow he manages to make them all sound exactly the same. This wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing if it didn't sound like uninspired meandering noodling. Boring fuck.

I watched the first season of k-on to finally understand the /gg/ memes better. Ritsu was my favorite closely followed by Mio.
Owen Gonzalez
that's not ola englund
Jose Sanchez
There's a reason why these guys are on YouTube.
Jason Robinson
ola is fun and a beast
Isaac Cooper
yes, get a strap. you will want to play standing sometimes. I like Str/Ang cables.
Owen Sanders
Just any old strap? Not sure if I need to care about the width or material.
Dominic Reyes
>demos a boutique reverb pedal into a clean power amp >CHUGG CHUGG CHUGG
How does he do it?
Jose Cooper
strap doesn't matter, just get one of those basic ernie ball ones.
Jonathan Gomez
like I said, they're fun. not meant to be actual reviews
Lincoln Diaz
You have a tone-stance while playing, right?
Isaac Flores
It's not a real tone stance until your knees are above your elbows.
Dylan Murphy
Does a beginner need a looper or regret not having one?
Ian Turner
hi I play acoustic and looking to buy a strat and every pic online I see of a black strat looks really nice but when I see actual pictures of them in use they look awful with scratches everywhere and fingerprints/streaks over them
is this due to the owner or is black just a bad colour for a guitar?
Glossy black will attract fingerprints and streaks. Avoiding scratches near the pickups is impossible, that's why most guitars have a scratch plate there. Scratches anywhere else is from shoddy usage. I'd wager many people don't bother wiping them clean for photos, most dudes on those platforms don't really give a shit.
Jaxson Cruz
I had pic related but ended up selling it a couple of months after I got it. Couldn't deal with the ridiculous neck dive (even after replacing the silly robo-tuners) and the overly whippy neck which would send notes out tune if I didn't always hold it in just the right position and baby the guitar. I can see why Les Paul hated the design and wanted his name taken off the model.
If the SG could somehow be improved by thickening up the body just enough to balance the guitar and fixing the neck by moving the neck joint higher/making the neck joint thiccer, or maybe just not cheaping out on the wood and properly curing and quartersawing it, it would be a pretty sweet design.
Brayden Richardson
Fellow guitar players,
Why are bass players always so retarded? Why cant they learn how to play their instrument? Is it because anyone who does learn how to play bass realizes its a fisher price guitar and moves on to that? Is the bass just a low iq magnet?
Glenn Fricker detected, how's it going man?! Have mooer still got their hands up your ass???
Wyatt Scott
someone give me your opinions because I can't make my own
White or Buttercream? (Buying this unseen so idk what's closer to olympic white IRL) Maple or PF? Any ideas for pickguards/knobs for pic attached to make it look less harsh and boring?
lads, I'm a bedroom musician, I've been using guitar rig 5 for years now, it sounds pretty good with my good headphones but to play without phones I use the headphone output of my USB interface on the input of my amp, which sucks, so it drops the quality of the sound a lot. Looking to improve my amp but don't know what would be the best option to use coupled with guitar rig. Is it possible to use a cabinet without plugging a head into it or is it necessary to push the cabinet? Was thinking about using a cabinet because it has no controls, then I'd use only the EQs on the guitar rig.
Daniel Sullivan
>I use the headphone output of my USB interface on the input of my amp, Why not plug it into the Effects Return on your amp instead of the input?
Kevin Clark
lmao I play the guitar on a 100w bass amp for starters
Ian Long
Dat tree dindu nuffin why he cut
Aaron Howard
Bare minimum is probably 150. Possibly lower. Get a squire p bass for 100 and a practice amp. Look for something used on ebay for a better deal.
Lucas Watson
go for 100w, bass amps with any less than that and it's just fart sounds
I owned a Gibson SG for a while and sold it for an American Strat. Best decision I've ever made. The tone was nice for sure but it always seemed kind of one dimensional to me. Maybe that was due to the pickups but I felt it was difficult to play anything other than hard rock and punk on it. I couldn't get a good angle for palm muting and alternate picking felt awkward.
I still have my HSS Strat 12 years later.
Zachary Brown
Thx
Yeah sure if I know what I should be doing then I don’t mind constant repetition it’s not like I have any social distractions
