First for do yourself a favor and just buy a nice guitar to start
As long as it has 22 frets minimum and a whammy bar you won't feel like you burned yourself
Luis Martin
Just play acoustic. If you have an electric, don't even plug it in.
Colton Allen
>he's too busy projecting about dilation on the internet to get a job and buy a Gibson, the only guitar that's good enough, so he's a virgin with inadequate guitars
Just play without strings. If you have frets, don't even put them on.
Anthony Edwards
Electrics force you to play cleaner.
Just stay away from gain and compression until you're good, you're not doing tapping and pinch harmonics yet anyways. And don't learn rock music, it's basically designed to be easy and forgiving of the shittiest technique.
Lol you play a used low end les-paul
Ryan Butler
Incorrect. I bought my Standard brand-new.
Aiden Allen

>baby hands yes >false impression that you're good Shitters fall apart on an electric because it demands cleaner fretting technique and good muting
Acoustics let you get away with a lot of noise because you can barely hear the noise unless you're recording or using a pickup. And then you're playing an... electric guitar. Yep.
Even if you did (i doubt it) it's an unremarkable $2500 guitar. Not even gibson's best, it's just, you know, "good enough".
In the same price and quality range as ESP E-IIs. At least when you sell it for a fender it'll have retained slightly more value than an ESP E-II since it actually has its brand name on the headstock.
Dominic Butler
>Lol you play a used low end les-paul LOL how did you know
You played a few duds that had been hanging on the wall for a good bit for a reason. Singing Les Pauls sell the first or second day they're out
Christopher Martin
So what you're saying is Gibson can't consistently make a good guitar, and a great number of the guitars they put out for sale sound like shit and ones that sound decent are rarities?
Would a singing les paul be one shanequa actually installed the neck correctly on? Does she dent the wood on the tenon or in the neck pocket on nine out of ten guitars or not use enough glue? Are they using shitty wood with a few good pieces in the mix? Is their pickup winder broken?
Why is it that Fender and others do not have this problem?
Gabriel Rodriguez
If someone is playing rhythm in the key of C for example, could you play over it with licks with a scale of a note in the key of C? Such as e minor pentatonic
Daniel Ortiz
>muh Amerimutt made
Luis Sullivan
What is "nice"? This advice can be taken differently.
Tyler Brown
Playing in C major, you can play in the following modes or scales that are subsets thereof:
C Ionian D Dorian E Phrygian F Lydian G Mixolydian A Aeolian B Locrian
What do all these modes/scales have in common? They only have the notes C, D, E, F, G, A B in them. So why bother layering pointless abstractions like this? Just stick to those notes, and add accidentals where your ear allows.
Ayden Taylor
>this triggered fox & grapes reply lmao there it is. So you've never played one and you obviously have no idea what I'm talking about. It's as fucking good as electric guitar gets, you should make an effort to find one one day when you can afford it >Keith Beres: “What’s your favorite non-Luke-model guitar?” >Steve Lukather: "I go to my Gibson ’59 Burst. It doesn’t get much better than that. Not a reissue. I have the real deal. Apparently, I have one of the more famous versions of that model. Joe Walsh told me I do, at least. I really don’t play a lot of other guitars when recording, actually. For live stuff it's too valuable to take out on the road so that's where My signature EB guitars step in. My signature guitar is good but it's no '59 Burst!" Pro-tip: my singing Lester cost $1200 and it came from the Norlin era
You have the right idea but don't think of the e minor pentatonic scale. Think of the chord tones meaning all the notes that make up e minor and its extensions in the key of C major. It's built the third degree of the c major scale meaning no 9th for example.
Matthew Robinson
>Lukather a music man artist
Blake Sullivan
What's so special about the '59 LP? Is it the only LP that stays in tune?
Colton Perry
I don't trust boomers when they praise guitars. They have too much bias because they grew up with their heroes playing les pauls and strats and they had few decent options.
Two boomers down the line and you'd get a guy saying nothing has tone quite like his old stratocaster and les pauls all sound like mud.
>When you can afford it I can, but I'm not going to scour the country for a rare guitar that isn't a failure of craftsmanship and QC.
Lincoln Nelson

Not when it counts. According to the man himself anyway. Lmao you'll be able to reach all the way up them someday, I believe in you
gibson is notorious for inconsistent production so every pickup has a different amount of winds on each coil, the nuts range from poorly to perfectly cut, the finish ranges from fucked up to flawless and belonging on a more expensive guitar, and the wood ranges from three pieces of low grade mineral-streaked scraps glued together to one solid piece of lightweight, perfectly dry mahogany. sometimes you'll get a bridge that won't intonate that well and other times they're placed with mathematical precision. same with frets. and despite claiming to use a PLEK machine some guitars have uneven frets and some don't (probably because they came out of the wood a little due to improper installation).
Jordan Johnson
I could buy a $10,000 pure abalone guitar with diamond inlays if I wanted to, but I'm not going to scour the country for the one gibson that can meet the same standard that every single fender hits every single time.
Austin Butler

Aaron Baker
they say a picture is worth a thousand words
you don't get it
a "singing" les paul is just a les paul that sounds as good as any old made in USA fender telecaster. get excited because it's a rare for a gibson to be good, but don't be an idiot and go saying that gibsons are better if their rare gems are only "good enough".
>A singing les paul! >Finally, I can sound as good as all those Fender players!
>a "singing" les paul is just a les paul that sounds as good as any old made in USA fender telecaster. Right, in other words you have no idea what a "singing" Les Paul is. No need to reiterate. Like I said, you should try to work on that when you can afford it
>Reddit I wish all the people on that website would die. Never seen a more uncharismatic bunch of faggots.
Luke Wright
>only a nigson is good enough

Guthrie Govan's Creative Guitar 1 and Guitar Grimoire: Scales & Modes were pretty enlightening for me. I also like the Fluid Soloing book on arpeggios.
Boomers grew up basicallyhaving to choose between two brands because everything else sucked that much so it's inevitably that roughly half of boomers will say gibson is actually good.
And this guy says les pauls make nice coffee tables but not nice guitars.
He spent $2500 on an LP standard and doesn't like it so now even though he doesn't like his guitar he better at least be thought of as rich for having it
Alexander Hughes
Upp.. while you hard COPED one more guitar legend popped up with a genuine Lester! Look out!
Just saying, it's not the best guitar, that's like saying a prius is the peak of performance just because everyone has one. I think firebird VII is the best gibson guitar (and on average more expensive and harder to get/more exclusive)
Angel Bailey
>ESP very nice but literally who outside of japan and metal. they also stopped putting their logo on anything but stuff made by their custom shops recently. >Dean a company that got its start through industrial espionage targeted at nearby gibson, which based all its guitars directly off gibson designs. nobody likes dean except for one dead guy and some retards. it's thought that dime was paid to play them and say that he always wanted to, because dean is dishonest like that.

What's the difference between major scale and major pentatonic?

>Actually tried to say satriani, eddie, and beck were gibson players when they have always plainly stated they didn't like them >UH, GARY MOORE LIKES LES PAULS! >some guy with as much talent in his entire body as beck has in his left pinky, because he's primarily a singer
Also gary is forgotten to everyone but guitarists while jeff beck, joe satriani, and eddie van halen especially are still remembered for their guitar playing.
Blake Hall
don't forget guthrie
Austin Smith
Major heptatonic has two more notes than major pentatonic.
Lincoln Rodriguez
Guthrie actually does like Gibson quite a bit, but his favorite guitar is the Gibson SG.

But this guitar is literally superior in every single way
how do you ACTUALLY find people to jam with? Over 2 years of trying to find people through the university all culminate in a handful of people who show interest and back off when you actually want to rehearse.
he got triggered earlier in the thread when he was accused of buying a les paul used, said he bought his les paul new (but admitted it was a low end model), and then got called out on calling other people poorfags when he owns a low end les paul.
David Hill
Shhh 1 marketing photo op clearly replaces years of live gigs and interviews.
James Jackson
Looks are all subjective though
>superior pickup >literally greatest sounding guitar in the world >superior weight >superior upper fret access >superior switch position >superior weight balance
Hunter Davis
..........OHHHHHH SHIT!!! LOOKIT
Damn y'all, I'm having a hard time finding a guitar legend who didn't play a Lester!
The Major Pentatonic Scale is all the notes that the Ionian, Lydian, and Mixolydian modes have in common. That means you can technically play a Major Pentatonic Scale anywhere you would otherwise play an Ionian, Lydian, or Mixolydian mode, but it doesn't work the other way around: You can't just play any of those modes anywhere and expect it to sound good.
Brody Rivera
Seeing someone who knows this on /gg/ is like seeing a fucking unicorn.
Zachary Morales
So far you've found quite a few who played one, and then put it down and never played it again because they thought it sucked.
>knopfler yeah, you ran out of virtuousos.
But speaking of Knopfler, his favorite guitar is a strat.
Wyatt Edwards

Alexander Turner
>missing out Sambo
I did not realise this.
Andrew Flores
Damn /gg/, you're telling me NONE of these guys knew what they were doing playing these?!?
They shoulda come here first, amirite? Y'all'd've skooled 'em!!
It's a problem of specificity: 7-note scales and modes are more specific than pentatonics. The Ionian mode, for example, describes the I chord in a key only, whereas the Major Pentatonic (containing fewer notes, and therefore being less specific) could be describing the I, the IV, or the V chord in a key.
Lincoln Campbell
So after trying and failing five times to find a decent player who actually prefers les pauls (because you don't know anything about these guys and originally got into guitar because of K-On) you finally found ONE motherfucker who unquestionably fanboys gibson and was actually good at guitar.
Congratulations. One washed up asshole is all you have. I guess you're really regretting buying a les paul now.

I don't know how long you've been here, but LP shitposting is a classic form of trolling on /gg/. And brace for a response to this post claiming that he means every word.
Maybe your grandma fucked him. Every girl crazy 'bout a sharp dressed man.

Modern Orange goes from fatter, ballsier Marshall to, uh, I'm gonna say cranked up Soldano/5150 modern metal kinda tones with the Dark Terror amps.
Old orange was made to be really loud and reasonably clean. They were almost the same as a Matamp on the inside. They they made some higher gain models later on.
Someone please point out if I lied, I have never played a vintage Orange.
Carson Gutierrez
See, now we've set him off and he's resorted to just spamming pictures of LPs.
John Flores
That guy? Some old fart.
Can we post guitar players people actually know about now?
I didn't say that, either. I'm just commenting on your spam.
Ryan Peterson
See now that you're in the 21st century the first guy you come up with uses EMGs, which make all guitars sound the same. Try again.
Kevin Hall
are there any downsides to bigger frets?
Landon Clark
TIM WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU DOING? You don't want that nip plank! Ibenhads have no tone! Get a les paul ASAP! Some anonymous poster on /gg/ told me they were good because a famous guy held one for a photo once!

Funniest part is that chinkplank you bought is to these guitars what you are to an anime girl. A cheep imitation that only a desperate weeb would go for.
Hunter Rodriguez
Mark, I know you're a great guitarist, but what the fuck is that knock off? Didn't /gg/ tell you about the importance of playing authentic? Only a Gibson is good enough. Even anime girls know it.
>memeing about tools when the trade is what's important here's to all you motherfuckers that live through life and at the end of the day love actually playing guitar. I don't mind the memes but if someone actually has a better life because they love music, even if they suck, then that warms my goddamn heart. Music has gotten me through some dark times, and I think a lot of us have already made it. Fuck all these 'idols' people post.
Mr. Gates, we're going to have to start calling you Synyster Gaytes if you don't wise up. The guitar experts at /gg/ told me that only a Gibson was good enough, so I'm afraid that unless you put down that schecter you'll never make it. People will never consider you one of the best rock guitarists if you're playing a shitplank like that instead of an authentic all-mahogany lester.
Idiot it's not about enjoying things it's about spending as much money as you can on entry level crap so that you have all the same logos on your bedroom rig as the famous guy on the stage. That way you know your bedroom rendition of smoke on the water sounds best.

reminder that /gg/ only likes ESP because of this chick like they only like gibson because of that K-On show
if an anime comes out with ibanez in it, JEMs will be shilled here like none other
Even a genuine tele might be uncomfortable on your right arm if you rest it the way you would on a strat. Best thing to do is play around on a few different guitars in your price range and figure which one you like the feel and sound of the most.

A quality guitar lasts over a lifetime. Paying an extra thousand for something you can take to the fucking grave is nothing. You will never have to spend that money again. Once you have that guitar you have it for the rest of of your life and will be able to pass it on to your kids.
Or you can buy some cheap shit so the frets will fall out in 10 years.
