And when did it stop being played on the mainstream radio, as well!

1985. I blame the Police breaking up for a lot of it as there was a lot of the scene centered around them. Really, I consider Songs From the Big Chair to be the last BIG New Wave album. Then Synthpop and Metal took over sealing New Wave’s fate.

Oh and when it wasn’t played on mainstream radio? The answer is never, Every Breath You Take was the number one most radio played song of the 80’s and the rest of New Wave got plenty of airplay.

I don’t know if it ended in ‘85....

Bump.

Shit

late 80s it died

That’s what I’m thinking. VERY late 80’s, almost the 90’s.

None of those songs are New Wave

Does New Wave just mean 80's music to you people

Post-punk died in 1984, New wave wasn't long after. If it isn't the 80's it's not "new" wave.

What about 70s New Wave music? All the best New Wave albums came out between 1977 and 1979.

Tears for Fears aren't New Wave you fucking moron.

A lot of that is more post-punk then new wave but the genres go hand in hand so isn't a big difference.

The Police, Talking Heads, Blondie, 20/20, The Cars, The Nerves, and The Knack are not post-punk.

This is all just VH-1 tier bland garbage

I feel like they definitely have New Wave influence. The New Wave genre didn’t disappear until 1991, I feel.
See above.
That’s all mainstream music for you.

>I feel
>I feel

then explain how those bands and songs aren’t New Wave, you brainlets

You’re right. *I know that these songs definitely have New Wave influence. Silly me, ha ha.

Some might argue some of their earlier stuff can be post-punk, even Devo started out post-punk before making new wave.

How the fuck is Pink Floyd New Wave?

The synth definitely has 80’s inspiration to it. Plus, Momentary Lapse Of Reason was a departure from their prog-ier roots.

I’ll also concede that calling Learning To Fly New Wave is a bit of a stretch. However, One Slip definitely has some strong New Wave influence. The drumming machine sounds, the bass, and the heavy synth definitely scream New Wave influence.

Nobody ever said that, you moron.

Nobody said it but they demonstrated it.
