Jim Ferraro is the most influential musician of the 21st century

>drugs and rapes you

I should listen to James Ferraro. Where should I start? I know there's a flowchart, but I'd like to hear other inputs as well.

Nite dolls with hairspray

meme answer: far side virtual (by far his most well known album)
patrician answer: night dolls with hairspray
then branch off from there

anywhere his discography is a beautiful mess. don't take it seriously and you'll enjoy it 10x more

>one of the precursors of hypnagogic pop
Ariel Pink was already making music for at least 5 years

far side virtual is his most popular

These other guys are gay, listen to Alien Microwave by Lamborghini Crystal if you want that real hardcore psych0-l0fi shit

dreams

shitty answer
alien microwave is too abrasive to start with and the sound channel mixing is fucked on headphones, if you're going to give a lamborghini crystal album make it live at slimer beach since it captures james's hypnagogic pop shit really well, the first track on that is probably the peak of lamborghini crystal

Ariel Pink isn’t the creator of hypnagogic pop

correct, but ariel was a savant in a sense, he wasn't connected to any musical scenes in the early 2000s

by the time hypnagogic pop started to coalesce into an actual microgenre, ferraro and spencer were already experimenting with that sound. so yes, ariel is the pioneer, ferraro and spencer are first wave of hypn pop

who /Overjuiced Suicidal Leather Cupid/ here?

Garbage music

I feel like OPN is the most influential musician for this generation of artsy internet producers. Did similar things but more digestible and probably better. That said I've hardly listened to any ferraro and idk what I'm talking about.

>did mumble rap before mumble rap was a thing
Which album was this?

I like Ferraro a lot, but nothin' beats Taterbug

youtube.com/watch?v=mKRxAFGyjpk

he also drugs and rapes underage girls with matt mondanile

respect your opinion but god, taterbug seems insufferable, the dirtiest fucking burnout hipster from the few videos of him that exist with his friends that somehow got on the internet.
despite that, when his music hits it's amazing, theme for gasoline weirdo has to be one of the most underrated pieces of hypnagogia to ever exist, specifically sexuality butterfly. i was surprised to know he performed it live youtu.be/QrDtcKVB780
i think he just wanks around too much, specifically with the more aimless guitar doodling. i prefer ferraro since he seems more locked in on ideas and stuff

Last American Hero TM

>laid the foundation stone to vaporwave
Cringe
>created the Yung Lean sound and aesthetic
Yikes
>did mumble rap before mumble rap was a thing
Turbo yikes

the two are definitely friends and people see age of/four pieces for mirai as companion albums

I like Taterbug's aesthetic more, sort of a dirty version of American culture from back when it was still cohesive. I mean I can't really put together a case for him, but to me it doesn't seem like he sticks too much to a single idea for more than a minute or two.

everyone is an idiot except for me. listen to this youtube.com/watch?v=Z3Y8MvnmcX8

>Which album was this?
youtube.com/watch?v=ehI5Aw6ORUw

does anyone have a dl link for his newest album? i love the guy but i'm not paying $10 for a digital album, there's no physical release and it's not on apple music jjamesferraro.bandcamp.com/

>muh general midi soundset
>muh Packard Bell Navigator aesthetic
>muh cassette tape saturation
>muh orientalism
Just about sums this hack up

>muh reductionism
>muh listing several general qualities of thing but putting 'muh' in front of them to make it sound lame

got it on slsk

Wait I forgot one
>muh facile, amateurish and compositionally shallow attempts at ”classical music”

Marble Surf and then just explore his lo-fi stuff sebaldsfolly.blogspot.com

What ethnicity is he?

ohey I live right next to brattleboro
does he live in the area?

no, he's one of those weirdos who lives in the cali desert (i think)

Based.

Cringe.

James Ferraro is shit and is exactly what happens when a art school trust fund kid has a huge ego and attempts to make music

>don't take it seriously and you'll enjoy it 10x more
Fucking lmao

pioneering =/= influential

>tfw if my made music as good as ferraro it would get 100 plays

Cleaners From Venus have been making hypnagogic pop since 1981

his last good record released in 2010

>vaporwave
>hypnagogic pop
New names for old things
>james ferraro
yuck boring music for pseuds

He perfected the conceptual side of vaporwave, his writing and aesthetic ideas regarding nostalgia, technology, digital capitalism, media omnipresence, hyperrreality etc are the real interesting part.

Why is this worthy of being a copy pasta now?

can u share

Don't. He fucking sucks and is a complete meme.

this his music is cool sometimes but the concept and philosophy is the real appeal
skid row, prince of rain, suki girls, fsv, nyc, iasia, clear, rerex, last american hero, marble surf are essential listening though

YA-MA-HA

give me a few mins. no I'm not trolling

thank u

4 pieces for Mirai, God of London, and Troll ep were also good

bless u

before I go, my download has some tracks in the wrong places, go to his bandcamp to correct the order. didn't realize it til just now. it's what I get for not paying attention to my downloads

>vaporwave
>hypnagogic pop
yawn... their sources are more interesting than their ironic adoptions

who /OLR/ here? Sam and James were buddies and made a great collab album.
youtube.com/watch?v=NBV837NdkN0

wait is this a real thing? whats the story behind this

damn thanks user.

No it's bs meme

This is just fucking dire music made by a pretentious dilettante. But cloth-eared dullards lap it up because ‘bruh, it’s like “modern” “classical” “pieces” made on a Korg M1 sooo a e s t h e t i c and philosophical’

okay then.

Based and redpilled

He's getting better and better with every release

Start with The Skaters, his original duo with Spencer Clark. Dispersed Royalty Ornaments is my favourite.

Attached: maxresdefault.jpg (717x719, 172K)

He absolutely outdid Lopatin on this one, absolutely loved it. I'm glad he fucking ditched the mumble shit lofi rnb.

By the way, friendly reminder to check Spencer Clark's solo output as well, he's vastly underrated. Monopoly Child Star Searchers (pic related) and Fourth World Magazine especially.

Thanks for posting this, couldn't remember the URL. Amazing how all of this is still available.

There is a physical release, I picked up the tape from boomkat (not sure it's still available though)
Discogs might be your best bet.
Reminder to never order from Ferraro directly. That shithead still owes me a bunch of cdrs I ordered circa 2010.

last american hero, clear, iasia, night dolls with hairspray, far side virtual, and live at slimer beach are all good starting points, but his whole discography is worth hearing
inhale c-4 $$$$$ & silica gel
hoping for a collab someday
great list. i'd add genie head gas to the list too
disagree. his last few releases havent been great imo besides four pieces for mirai. im worried he'll never again hit the peaks he did in 2007-2009
based af. spectacle of light abductions, pinhead in fantasia, bamboo for two, and alien wildlife estate are all favorites

they tour together already, so they kinda collab that way

>hoping for a collab someday
they did FRKWYS #7 with a bunch of other artists but everyone agrees there's too many cooks on it, still a solid album
they also both appear on the more obscure release "re-synthesis", with ferraro's track coming right after OPN's (ferraro uses the name keyhole voyeur)

oh, they also did the soundtrack for rafman's dream journal which he even said would purposely click for the "Yea Forums audience", but then you're getting into hipster art installation territory

he definitely is one of the most interesting to me, hearing this was transcendental, and listening to nightdolls with hairspray was really impressive to me given the spectrum of his "sound(s)" i mean you can really tell he has an immense auditory palette and a deep curiousity for creating, not what is relevant to the ears of others but what is truly the music coming from within himself for himself and thus connected strongly to the wavelengths which vibrate and connect us all to each other in our shared (listening) experiences.. it is nice that dean blunt and ferraro have collab'd and in turn dean blunt has collab'd with yung lean and asap rocky who has collab'd with kanye west who has collab'd with donald trump. isn't that just nice to think about?

Nice last minute save here, boy.
