Of all creative bands in the history of rock music, the Doors may have been the most creative. Their first album contains only masterpieces and remains virtually unmatched. Jim Morrison may well be the single most important rock frontman. He is the one who defined the rock vocalist as an artist, not just a singer. Ray Manzaker's style at the keyboards was at the vanguard of the fusion of classical, jazz, soul and rock music. The virulence of some of their riffs bridged the blues-rock era and the hard-rock era. Whether it was him, Krieger or Manzarek or all of them, their songs have a unique quality that has never been repeated. They are metaphysical while being psychological and while being physical (eroticand violent). They are the closest thing rock music has produced to William Shakespeare.
It sounds dated, but in a good way.
Jim was a poet & Manzarek was talented motherfucker.
What’s with this new meme on here that the Doors are good?
L.A. Woman?
cause they were one of the very few conventional rock bands of the period and not a freakout instrumental band like the Dead and QMS (and cause they didn't fucking suck like Jefferson Airplane)
CIA research
Thanks OP, I gave their debut a chance because of this post and I'm really digging Alabama.
very few psychedelic bands give a keyboard player such a prominent role so it sounds different to every guitar based psych rock band.
Same reason why CCR has aged amazingly. They did the whole freak out thing but also stayed in the roots of blues.
deh dores
I may have unintentionally started this new wave of Doorsposting with my post about them beating TVU at art rock, Rolling Stones at blues rock, Bob Dylan at poetry, etc. cause I’ve seen my post reposted by others
The reason I made that post initially is cause I liked the Doors in high school a lot, and I relistened to them recently and remembered how fucking good they are. They legitimately might be the greatest band in American history
actually is onto something
creative
they just are musical and good
Thu world revolves round you, wow cunt. Even if it were true, you don't give in to the narcissism on god damn anonymous Mongolian Cuisinart.
Because whether you love them or hate them, the one thing universally agreed upon is that they sound unlike any other band. Therefore they aren't really easy to date to a specific time period and thus, less dated.
No notable band had a garish organ as a lead instrument and a pick-less, polka-trained neurotic virtuoso guitarist guiding the songs from the shadows. I haven't even mentioned Jim fucking Morrison.
I made a post about a band not discussed much here, now I see a bunch of people reposting that one post and making other posts about the band. Why are you so offended?
Based
You're literally wrong in every single regard holy shit.
The only thing that may possibly be wrong is the point about Bob Dylan, and even that’s debateable
The Doors are miles above both the Velvet Underground and the Rolling Stones
remember that Mike the music snob immediatly put them at F tier in his Classic Rock tier list
You haven't listened to The Velvet Underground at all.
This isn't Love!
But yeah The Doors are pretty good i agree you have a good opinion.
I love the Velvet Underground, they’re one of my favorite bands of all time
But the Doors are better, it’s just how it goes sometimes
These guys sound like the doors
But I get the feeling that’s deliberately
Better than anybody elses
Based nonsense poster
They are musical and good. Creative.
