Jerry Lee Lewis had a big comeback as a country singer in the 70s and just knocks it out of the park as a vocalist. Definitely one of my favorite voices in country, even if he's still usually considered a rocker.

By the way, have you ever seen Mike Judge's Tales from the Tour Bus? Season One's all about the back stories of several major country singers, with due emphasis on all the crazier parts. That'd probably give you a pretty damn good introduction to country music.
