Yui's guitar cost 29000 yen. It was not a genuine Gibson. It was a knock off, because Japan doesn't give a shit.
Levi Johnson
i want this thing so fucking bad but they're out of production and apparently there are only TWO of these on sale on the web and they're both BLACK which isn't nearly as sexy as this white boy
really want to learn how to play guitar, couple of questions. Should i go for lessons? if so where? What type guitar should i buy? I have experience in playing piano pretty casually and self taught, and im not sure if i should go for an acoustic or electric. somone help me out?
Christopher Lee
Seems like a cool pedal. I'm planning on selling my fuzz factory to fund a new fuzz since it's a beast to tame sometimes.
>damn, that .gif makes me look like a badass >i sure showed those nerds >Yea Forums.org
Take three lessons and teach yourself the rest unless you're incapable of self motivation, only go back for occasional lessons with a competent, accomplished guitarist You should buy a guitar that costs at least $500 and isn't made in indonesia or china so you don't get stuck with a piece of shit It doesn't matter which one you learn on, but always buy used because you won't know what you really like until a few months later and then you'll want to sell everything
should i buy the guitar first? as well as should i just head to my local music store to ask for lessons?
Brandon Brown
Buy the guitar first, and then buy the amp by trying it out with the guitar you just bought.
Ryder Ramirez
>taking random lessons
search for someone who's actually good who can teach you something, don't risk possibly taking lessons from a self taught rocker who can only play thrash metal covers

Get a G&L. Their Tribute series guitars are solid and affordable.
Daniel Cooper
Only Ran is good enough, obviously.
Adam Wood
Don't listen to this loser, get something with 24 frets or you'll regret it.
Robert Martin
You don't need 24 frets. >b-but I need it to play this one song like it is on the album Only faggots play the same song/solo the same way twice.
Jaxon Fisher
Maybe you don't even need 20, most people only need 12. But you don't lose anything by having 24. >gimping your guitar for no reason No, you can't tell the difference between the neck pickup tones either.
Jacob White
just hesitant to blow a bunch of money on something im brand new too yenno g&l is more what i was thinking should i go with that?
Isaac Wright
if you don't fret with your thumb there is no reason for you not to play an eight string
you weren't taking advantage of the narrower neck of a six string in the first place, might as well have more bass notes
Pro-tip: 24 fret guitars are for wannabe meal/shred babbys who want to play fast but aren't skilled enough to manipulate the whammy bar or the jerk the string up and nail that high E or B when the run calls for it. >literally training wheels for plebes who can't play for shit You can spot the tryhards every time: their guitar has two extra frets that they wouldn't need if they could actually play.
What if you want to hit the high E without a bend effect
What if the song calls for a high E in rapid sequence with other notes
What if you want your neck pickup to be less muddy
Jason Ward
Ask me how I know you're a brown tryhard
Brayden Torres
24 fret guitars are popular, therefore they are bad. I only like electric blues by the way. I liked it AFTER it was cool, plebs. You're all tryhards for liking popular things.
Steve Vai actually knows how to play guitar, actually has sex with women, and actually has money. He has 24 frets. You just post pictures of frogs on an anime forum, are a 20+ year old virgin if you didn't lose it to a fat prostitute, and live with your parents. You say 24 fret guitars are for tryhards because you're jelly.
If trying hard gets you more money, more women, and out of your mom's basement then not being a tryhard is fucking pathetic.
Matthew Young
>Steve Vai lmao literally who?
Ryder Nelson
If you play anything but classic rock and blues on a classic american made guitar you are an NPC.
>Run program: be special >look, i am futuristic >my guitar has more frets >my gutiar has more coils >i am better >run program: first pentatonic box shred
People with souls play with soul. People without souls play metal and jazz fusion. If it was good enough for the people who invented electric guitar, it's good enough for me. Shredder shit was good enough for a bunch of losers who did drugs and lived in vans.
>he's been playing for more than two years and still can't write an original song >he's been playing for more than one year and can still only play covers of other peoples songs >he's been playing for over two years and still can't figure out how to play a song by ear >he posts videos of himself playing guitar on YouTube >he's over 22 years old and still isn't in a band playing original music >he plays covers at the local open mic night or at a local bar >he's been playing for over two years and his main electric costs less than $700 >he's been playing for over four years and his main acoustic costs less than $1500 >he spends his time ogling gear instead of practicing & playing
There's more but if any of the above describes you then you need to move on to a more suitable hobby like playing videogames or something similar. You're doing a disservice to the instrument and music in general by insisting on engaging in a pursuit you don't have the emotional or intellectual capacity for.
imagine how much more popular piano players would be if they stopped showing off like a bunch of tryhards and made some actual good music with normal notes. this is why guitarists get laid and pianists don't.
also if you play guitar and aren't playing gigs with a band and getting laid you are fucking worthless. quit music.
>Fun fact #1: most keyboards only come with 61 keys instead of the full 88 like a piano (and sometimes 76 on occasion)
>Fun fact #2: most classically trained pianists rarely play more than 44 out of those 61 keys.
>Fun fact #3: most current MIDI controllers now come with less than 44 keys, instead they come with 37 because that's all most aspiring songwriters require to write songs with nowadays!

rock stars by merit aren't real, the recording industry execs (who make even more money) just pick a guy at random and market the fuck out of him. if you learn to produce music you have more money making potential than someone who merely plays it. most "stars" don't even write their own songs and they definitely don't record them. behind every great act and rich faggot is a smart act and an even richer faggot.

I want to compose some jazz-inspired indie rock. The only bands I know that do something like that are Morphine and Karate, but I don't really like how they sound.
Any ideas? I'm thinking that getting some very jazzy drumming is fundamental in this, the rest could be kinda secondary.

There was a guitar for sale on Craigslist that I really wanted to buy for 650. It was up for a few weeks, but I was just a little too late and someone else got it. Seller told me it's the local guitar company. The instrument needs some work, including a new pick guard and a good polish and setup. I think they're planning on selling it for about 1k. Would it be unreasonable for me to call the guitar company and offer 700 as is? Its an old Taylor from the first California workshop and it's supposed to sounds great.

True, they're like modded Marshalls, but a Dirty Shirley Mini sounds nothing like a plexi. It's more like a JTM45 with contemporary levels of gain and a really aggressive attack. Apparently it's a modified JCM800 preamp hooked up to a JTM45 power amp, with the latter changed to a silicon rectifier EL84 design in the Mini version. All of which is why it doesn't sound like a plexi.

A lot of squiers are unironically nicer to play than American fenders. Constant neck radius, satin finish on the neck, lighter bodies(!). Honestly just swap the nut, tuners, and electronics and do a fret level if needed and the only problem will be neck instability (buzz one day none the next).
The next step up are those schecter student-grade guitars. Same deal with the satin finish but a little nicer and the necks are three piece, a feature copped from $3000 ESPs because it's cheaper when not used in a neck-thru guitar, so they don't move as much.
For some reason when you get into high end guitars ever neck is glossy, sometimes actually sticky (nitro finishes), but nothing else improves except for the pickups, tuners, and frets. Sometimes the body wood even gets worse.

you think more money doesn't get you that much more guitar but the reality is you're beginning to realize that established american brands like fender and gibson think they can get away with more shit because of the name they put on the headstock
Luke Jenkins
Lol hell no. I'd drop it down to 'just fine'. That shit's gonna erode over time unless taken to a professional. In what world is a smashed finish like this "great"?

how do people even abuse their guitars like this
Austin Perry
It's funny how guitarists can't seem to understand that quality of electric instruments are determined almost exclusively by the electronics that go into them. All other musicians understand this perfectly well.
Brody Jenkins
>squiers are unironically nicer to play than American fenders.
If you want a pristine instrument all your life you should be a solo/recording act. a lot of touring artists have started keeping their prized vintage instruments that aren't made that way with that wood anymore in vaults for recording use only.
others tour with them, like this guy, because they're beat up anyways.

electric and bass are for fucking new world fags this was a post by #acousticgang
Hudson Kelly
LGTSS. IMO I think how a guitar feels is more important than how it sounds. If it isn't comfortable to hold and play, you're unmotivated to play it. You can change pickups, hardware, etc to get a good sound but a guitar's feel is set in stone.
Take shit like a LP. It's unbalanced, heavy, clunky as fuck. Basically can't play it sitting down. Even if it's the best sounding guitar in the world, it feels like shit to play.
The quality of an electric instrument, then, is not the electronics. You could take an Epiphone Special 2 and set it up with Gibson standard tuners, bridge, pickups, and it'll still be shit.
Carter Foster
This.
t. nylon
Jack Torres
The bridge, nut, and tuners affect your tone 100x more than wood and are also the primary things affecting tuning stability and string breakage. Wood affects tuning stability if it was not aged properly and overreacts to changes in temperature and humidity. Yes, even the body wood, because that's what the neck is attached to. Finish, neck profile, headstock angle and volute or lack thereof, and body shape affect basic playability.
You get what you pay for but the costs increase faster than the quality.
>brought to you by underage memes
Angel Wood
it takes time to make a neck with level frets
good, hard alloys are more expensive than cheap ones that wear down faster
Noah Barnes
Almost no guitar will be set up properly straight out of the box/bag/case. And I'd almost be impressed if you could find a guitar, these days, of poor enough quality to the point of frets popping out. You don't even have to spend 300 bucks to assure that won't happen. Hell, you can get a squier affinity tele for like 150 bucks and any issue I've heard of people having with those can be solved with a soldering iron.
I'd still be nervous as fuck touring with a guitar like that. Not just for the monetary value, but a guitar played and owned by Peter Green AND Gary Moore?
Henry Bennett
I know what I've got.
Henry Baker
No you don't that's a faggot guitar
Austin Cox
no guitar will be set up out of the box
but not every guitar will hold its setup if the humidity in your house goes up or down by 5%. i had a few MIMs like that. they HAD to be kept in cases. period.
Brayden Gutierrez
And /gg/ is a foul smelling den of contrarian, insecure spergs where everything that isn't a strat, tele, or les paul is for tryhard faggots because your lack of empathy prevents you from understanding that a normal person who doesn't nerd out over the differences between seymour duncans and bare knuckles thinks all electric guitars look and sound the same, and therefore no matter what you show up, even if it's a vintage telecaster, with it's your tried-so-hard-and-fucked-up-so-much playing that will make you look like a faggot.
My last girlfriend thought an ibanez was a telecaster.
Adam Hill
>IMO I think how a guitar feels is more important than how it sounds.
I agree wholeheartedly but it's not as if most guitars aren't near clones of more famous guitars. It's easy to find something fun to play in almost any price range.
Replacing bridge and nut with your choice of material costs like 20 bucks, maximum. Tuning a guitar takes me like 1 minute. To be honest with you I don't think 99% of people who post in /gg/ would be able to tell which is a squier in the 200-300 bucks price range and which is a MIA Fender Telecaster if played through the same amp.
Juan Williams
Yeah well, your guitar is shit, I hope you eat kaka and die

This is the age of the so called 'individual'. People aim to build an identity through the goods they purchase and the products they consume. Literal who custom shops and high end long established guitar brands cater to the same kind of people who basically want the same thing but go about it in slightly different ways. One group wants to use their instruments as status symbols, the other wants to use them as 'an expression of the self' (as if there is such a thing).
They both cater to idiots with more sense than money.
up to $2500 it's not the logo, it's the time and labor costs. making hardwood instruments right is a slooooow process. past $2500 it's artificial scarcity (limited edition bro, act now or you'll never get one!) and even more labor costs (hand carved body brooooo!)
insertfamousguitarbrand is famous because they pay experienced employees a living wage with benefits instead of random local teenagers an allowance with none
everything between $1000 and $2500 is a variance in pay rates, employee benefits, production process and raw wood costs instead of instrument quality. for instance, gibson's factory is very inefficient with more hand work than machine supervision and they use one of the most expensive woods they can. they do this for tradition, supposedly. fender has a more streamlined process and they use domestic hardwood. fender has always focused on improving manufacturing efficiency because it was founded by an engineer, not a musician. gibsons cost more than fenders.
Leo Fisher
Employees in the Mexican Fender factory make $60 a week. Even for Mexico, they're relatively poor and might need to work a second job to support a family well.
Employees in the American factory make $15 an hour, a few hundred a week.
That is why an instrument from a first world country costs more.
but mexican tacos cost peanuts meanwhile american tacos are pretty expensive.
yeah i´m >implying american fender employees are mexican
Michael Harris
Even with the living costs factored in the mexicans are still paid a lot less (they're happier with poverty, i guess), and meximoney is worth less than USD so paying them an equivalent wage would still be cheaper.

Were all psychopaths. Im closer to finding where sam lives. I already have 1000 braxilian reales ready and a tranny willing to pop him in his sleep on discord. Imma get sammy involved in a tranny robbing gone wrong.
Colton Thompson
More like I wouldn't pay that much for a used metal guitar with a shitty flame top.
it's between great and good, try to fix the chipping and put it at great, it's certainly not mint
Samuel Gray
so they're total shithouse. agreed
Thomas Green
You don't really need more than 3 (volume/volume/tone) on a two pickup guitar, but if it bothers you, you can install concentric pots.
The price range I'm shopping at is the next step up from shitplanks - just planks. Customization is fine. But I want a guitar that exemplifies what makes electric different from my acoustic, and these metal guitars are pretty much that and fenders and classic gibbons are out. >more notes >easier access to them >more expression >modern design elements
Adrian Sanchez
got this bad boy arriving tomorrow. i must say i'm bretty excited.
fuck me. just buy a fender. a shitty fender is better than a squier. at least you can do them up.
Lincoln Torres
post some shred when it arrives.
Leo Gray
Worst YouTube guitarist. You can tell he paid for his degree.
>plays with guys 10000x best than him >talks like he's amazing but only knows basic music knowledge that makes beginners feel smart >pretty much can only play dad rock
own both road guitars & collectables for recording. unless youre a poorfag
Nicholas Morales
>Should I go for lessons Yes. >Where? I don't know what you mean by that. >What type of guitar should I buy? Something you can afford that you enjoy playing. Make/model/etc does not matter when you're starting out. The only thing that matters is that you have an instrument that you don't want to put down, especially because the learning curve for guitar is so steep. >I'm not sure if I should for an acoustic or electric Well, why do you want to play guitar? Just to be someone who plays guitar? Or is there a guitarist who inspired you?
Nicholas Murphy
the fr-esque bridge steal soul off your blues, dont be a cheapskate and buy a semi-flotant or a fixed bridge guitar.
Jose Walker
>You can tell he paid for his degree No, you can tell that mommy and daddy paid for everything. The guy has the exact shitty attitude you would expect from someone who has never had to struggle.
William Hall
just ask any legend like muddy waters... he could put strings on a baseball bat and make good music... soul comes from the player...
just look at all those hacks playing n(e)o-soul on classic strats... no help from the gear there...
Individual? That would mean they weren't sheep. It's the age of vanity and image management, where people buy things to look like who they want to be instead of actually being that. and for everything there's a herd of a hundred or more people all doing the exact same thing, same clothes, same cars, same guitars.
Connor Perez
This is the only other guy here who knows his shit. Ive dont this to all my brand new guitars. Bought a new Ibanez RG took straight to get set up from the shop same day, with 3 new DiMarzios and had all the frets filed to shape. Still cheaper than a high high end J series but still had the same pickups. Was a great road guitar.
Ethan Nelson
that´s because baseball bats dont fit a flotant bridge so it can sound very soulful.
nothing against fr bridges bro i have 3.
Noah Parker
kids these days, you can play as many notes and tap as much as you want and your song will still suck...nobody ever said fast was bad, but fast doesn't replace good...
just shredding isn't nice to listen to, you're just showing off...there's no soul put into it...
John Scott
nice,, but im an ibanezfag
Henry Wood
Wow this is the most beginner/boomer talk I've ever heard. Is this the 2009 Steve Vai YouTube comments?
