One of my favourite bands of all time. If I had to name a single track as a favourite, I’d also go with Into the Void.

War Pigs, Cornucopia, Under The Sun

Black sabbath, Warning, Wheels of confusion, Under the sun, National acrobat

bump

>Black Sabbath, a highly influential band, further deteriorated the degree of skills required for playing hard-rock, but their distorted and booming riffs, their monster grooves, their martial rhythms, their monotonous singing and their horror themes, that evoked the vision of a futuristic medieval universe, laid the foundations for black metal and doom-metal. Melody and any instrumental prowess were negligible components of their most typical works, Paranoid (1971) and Master Of Reality (1971). They were not the inventors of gothic music, but they were the first to turn it into a genre.
how good is scaruffi at summing things up?

this description makes me wonder if he actually listened to them

I love Sabbath, and it's a fair assessment. Ozzy's melodies just sort of meander with what the guitar is doing, he really doesn't add any extra color to the music unless you're talking about Planet Caravan. And at least he acknowledges the riffs.

idk how he can claim they weren't skilled musicians though

Come on, Iommi had a knack for making riffs that nobody could ever hold a candle to, but he wasn't technically amazing. Even beginner guitarists can learn Sabbath songs.

>the guitarist who basically invented the metal riff as we know it was not technically gifted
y i k e s

Not when you compare him to other guitarists of his time. He was gifted at concocting iconic riffs, but is that all there is to being a musician?

you don’t know the difference between good songwriting and technical skill

Fluff

Iommi wasn't super-technical but the whole band played together really well, Ward and Butler were crazy good together

Man's got no fucking fingertips, I think he deserves a little extra credit
