the music and trent is cute

but why is the music good? I never got it.

because it sounds good dummy that’s how music works

but you can explain why it sounds good.

no for me music is visceral not intellectual

Linkin Park for people who think they are too sophisticated for them

no

>visceral
is most of NIN's work even that heavy? They have like just two heavy records

that has nothing to do with anything

Where does the "visceral" comes from.

melodramatics, cutting edge production that every bedroom producer tries to copy, completely genuine (up to With Teeth) and relatable. Appeals to males and females alike, good music to fuck to, good songwriting, outstanding album design (as in the ways to songs lead into each other, don't know what it's called). Never forgets to put a beat behind the wank, understands pop sensibilities ie

>completely genuine (up to With Teeth)
Hesitation Marks is one of the most relatable and genuine albums he has ever released though.

from enjoying music without analyzing why you think it’s good, as in an emotional response

>dude i dont liek thing
>h-hey how about y-you explain why you liek thing i dont! hehehe im such a contrarian xD got em
kill yourself

I never said I dislike it, nor like it.

>Academy Award
>Grammy Award
>sober
>swole
>unlimited money and respect

nah, I don't buy the angst, I do like it though

I dunno dude, that's not how depression disorders work, think about how many famous celebrities have committed suicides, Trent has spoken about being diagnosed with depression.
Trent is also still an addict, you don't "quit" addiction, you just abstain from it all your life, it's pretty easy to imagine he is still thinking about the feeling cocaine gives you, while at the same time fearing what it might do.
He was also becoming a dad around this album, which can spark a lot of anxieties.
I personally buy it.

Delete everything except for third (3rd) word and you got it.

hahaha

>he’s an addict
>cocaine
give me a fucking break lmao

also booze.

Not that many actually, also you drew a straight line between depression and suicide. If you wanna talk about working of actual medical depression one most common symptom is severe lack of motivation which leads to inability to do anything on your own. People diagnosed with depression only do stuff when they:
1. Literally led by the hand through the whole process
2. Don't have it at the moment
Next major symptom is neurotransmitters malfunction which lead to inability to fully process senses including music. That's when "everything is gray" came from.

well, yeah, and there was and always is a price to pay for that
00:30
youtube.com/watch?v=Pk2hBB6KpDI
he talks about it in other interviews around the time of The Fragile, where in a way he would just be stuck working and stuff, and that his music was all his life.

At some points you have to wonder if your life is going the right way, if you are living it as you should. He got big and plenty of awards for his career, wife and kids, but he still seems to be stuck in introspection and over analyzing himself.

Even With Teeth had that issue, could he still make his music if he wasnt in that sufering that he was before? Did he have to keep going lower and lower to validate his content?
In Hesitation Marks plenty of people dont like "Everything" because it sounds happy.

He had money for his drugs, come on, man, that's not low.

I don't even understand this whole "dark" thing going on around NIN. Isn't it emotions well received? Going around, having fun in a concerts, fucking bitches, making music and money insted of working on a factory with little hope for future, and most of all being able to find validation and compassion for all of this. Isn't it great? I mean who would look twice at the regular junky who doesn't even have money for heroin? Who would even give a shit about some noname's cries for help? Let alone talk about it, express understanding and care if it's not for the sake of idealization. And people kill themselves all the time in complete neglect.

NIN has more emotion than any song out today. What is it with people today that "emotion=cringe?". There is a full circle to human emotion. The internet has put any song that touches depression on blast. But listen to nin and you hear pure raw pre-internet filtered emotion.

It's not the same angst that he had in the nineties, it's older, more focused, less exploding at the world and more taking responsibility and owning it.

At his lowest point his was damn near flat broke. Fragility Tour barely paid for itself, and then his manager who had been skimming off him tried to sue Reznor for the last of his money and 1/3rd merch rights, Reznor got clean, counter-sued won his case and more

Are you seriously implying you cannot be addicted to cocaine?

he is probably laughing at it because a cocaine addiction is a fucking joke IF you have the money. if you dont know this you are 13 and havent sniffed coke for 3 days straight only to stop because its expensive.

Attached: nins.jpg (540x540, 59K)

People make a big deal about him using cocaine, but Reznor stated that cocaine was a side show to his Alcoholism. He'd get drunk and cocaine would seem like a logical second step.

Because nickelback is pretty neat yo

Attached: 25BC096E-CEDC-415F-A5A6-1EB7A9847C1D.jpg (750x541, 56K)

Probably the same way Bruce Springsteen sings about the downtrodden but hardworking american man while being a superstar who fills stadiums

you can tell the person who made this to hate on NIN is low IQ

>sniffing Coke for 3 days
This is plebian shit if you don't IV your Coke and dope you're a casual

>I'M SO FUCKING ANGRY AND DEPRESSED FUCK YOU AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH

>interesting range of styles from metal, industrial, electronic, piano ballads, ambient, upbeat dance rock, even flirting with jazz
>insanely good production values
>powerful vocals with generally decent, but occasionally cringe, lyrics
>overall cool aesthetics, album art
>Trent is a one man band on most of the albums, and the guitar, synth, bass, percussion all sounds good
>often loud, angry, energetic, visceral as one user said

that's just me, but maybe this helps you understand why people like "the music"

also Trent is cute

Is NIN a band or is it just one guy?

NIN is just one guy's band

Attached: Trent.webm (640x480, 729K)

Nine Inch Nails brought the Industrial genre into the mainstream. Some of the music is very good. But I think Reznor is a bit of a dummy. I like the music regardless though.

its the nickelback is neat fan club

for me, it’s the synthesizer

WHICH ALBUM IS ACTUALLY GOOD

Attached: getting into nin.jpg (3311x3117, 911K)

listen in release order, you can skip the remix/B side halos

personally I think TDS, The Fragile, and Bad Witch are the peaks

Downward Spiral and With Teeth

All of them

Don’t know that much about them always assumed it was edgelord crap for teenage retards who hang out at hot topic at least that’s the impression I got in the late 90s early 00s when I was in middle school

It's layered, like an onion

highly accurate

it is super edgy lyrically, but the compositions and production hold up

youtube.com/watch?v=Hb098UizK-w

i don't get it either. NIN makes shitty albums. They definitely have some good songs, but just no solid albums. The only thing that really comes close is Broken but that's an EP not an album. The Slip is probably the only thing that comes close to a good, solid album. Ghosts doesn't count, and neither does his soundtrack work.

How is TDS not a solid album?

Like every NIN record, it has some great songs. Mr. Self Destruct , Closer obv, March of the Pigs are all good tunes. But the album has so many low points for me, specifically Heresy, I'm a big Marilyn Manson fan and even those lyrics are just way too edgy for me. The Becoming, Ruiner, and I Do Not Want This are all particularly bad imo, they sound too disjointed and weird and not very musical to me. Other songs like A Warm Place, Reptile, Hurt and Piggy (live version is 10x better than album version) are just alright.

I think as an experience, this album really succeeds. I also appreciate how closely the aesthetics of the music videos match with cover and content of the album. If you want to experience a nightmarish, drugged out, depressing downward spiral than this is a great album to do that. But in terms of songs I want to go back to and listen to, songs that get stuck in my head or have me tapping my feet, this album falls very short.

>and even those lyrics are just way too edgy for me. The Becoming, Ruiner, and I Do Not Want This are all particularly bad imo, they sound too disjointed and weird and not very musical to me.
You literally just named the best songs on the record, The Becoming is a master piece

Different strokes. I know why some people like this band so much but I can only fuck with a handful or their songs.

stopped reading after "big marilyn manson fan"

don't be a fucking faggot

Manson owes his entire career to Trent Reznor

So does that automatically make NIN the better band? Marilyn Manson has way better albums than anything NIN ever put out. Mechanical Animals and Holy Wood are good examples

>So does that automatically make NIN the better band?
yes

>Sick Boy: It's certainly a phenomenon in all walks of life.
>Mark "Rent-boy" Renton: What do you mean?
>Sick Boy: Well, at one time, you've got it, and then you lose it, and it's gone forever. All walks of life: George Best, for example. Had it, lost it. Or David Bowie, or Lou Reed...
>Mark "Rent-boy" Renton: Some of his solo stuff's not bad.
>Sick Boy: No, it's not bad, but it's not great either. And in your heart you kind of know that although it sounds all right, it's actually just shite.
>Mark "Rent-boy" Renton: So who else?
>Sick Boy: Charlie Nicholas, David Niven, Malcolm McLaren, Elvis Presley...
>Mark "Rent-boy" Renton: Ok, ok, so what's the point you're trying to make?
>Sick Boy: All I'm trying to do is help you understand that The Name of The Rose is merely a blip on an otherwise uninterrupted downward trajectory.
>Mark "Rent-boy" Renton: What about The Untouchables?
>Sick Boy: I don't rate that at all.
>Mark "Rent-boy" Renton: Despite the Academy Award?
>Sick Boy: That means fuck all. Its a sympathy vote.
>Mark "Rent-boy" Renton: Right. So we all get old and then we can't hack it anymore. Is that it?
>Sick Boy: Yeah.
>Mark "Rent-boy" Renton: That's your theory?
>Sick Boy: Yeah. Beautifully fucking illustrated.

Attached: trent-live.jpg (447x470, 82K)

>the student can never outperform the master because i say so

weirdo narrow minded view that you provide zero substance for, nice one.

>downward trajectory
this really needs to be a pasta in every nine inch nails thread from here on out

Attached: he real rock star.jpg (499x609, 42K)

This is fucking Brutal. You trade "The Name of The Rose" with Hesitation Marks and "The Untouchables" with the Social Network soundtrack and this is scarily accurate.

Attached: stress10.jpg (332x268, 15K)

Marilyn Manson never made better music than Trent, his music has none of the musicianship of NIN

i am in awe of how much of a pleb you are. in absolute awe. i would love to hear your review of crime and punishment
>it certainly succeeds as a perfect explanation of human beings, how their minds work and the concepts of guilt, crimes and punishment. but where are the puns? where's the cute interplay? where are the sex scenes? where's the action? i found myself bored at many points of the novel

You're a retard. I listen to music because it sounds GOOD. Why the fuck would I want to listen to some guy self destructing and ruining his life with weird disjointed unconventional methods of song writing. That's exactly like why I said the album doesn't have a lot of a lot of songs that I want to go back and listen to.

Have you listened to anything off Mechanical Animals or Holy Wood besides the singles?

Just got on after finishing TDS again. Still an album

It's just an incredibly plebby road to take, unconventional song writing can be enjoyed and Spiral is still pretty accessible even at its most experimental
I'd expect someone like you to be a big fan of With Teeth or Hesitation Marks, not meaning that as an insult, they're good albums which aren't really that weird

Quake OST

NIN sucks
youtube.com/watch?v=Hb098UizK-w

Stop

mom and dad think it's bad music, therefore you listen to it because that'll show 'em

My mom likes it.
My dad thinks it's too depressing

I've always liked nine inch nails because it sounded raw and expressive but you can still dance to it

my dad loved nine inch nails
>tfw will never ride around in my dad's mazda sports car listening to year zero when it's brand new ever again

Fghfg

still waiting

Pretty Hate Machine is one of my favorite albums of all time, but I don't care that much about the rest of their discography because it doesn't have the same EBM sound.

What do you mean bro? That album released three months ago
seed9.bandcamp.com/album/strobe-light

Try Hesitation Marks or Year Zero, maybe

That sounds comfy, wish I could have been a NIN fan when that album dropped, at least I was here for the EP trilogy

>"God is dead" is edgy but "I wanna fuck you like an animal/feel you from the inside" is not
I fucking hate /pol/ Christian larpers so much, literally taking us full circle just because atheism is now the fashionable.

/pol/ is, funnily enough, starting to reuse the 80s/90s arguments of "RAWK IS EVIL"
it's comedy and we've gone full circle.

was a NIN fan at the time, as were all my friends. The major consensus was that it sucked. Especially with The Hand That Feeds as the radio single which was way too poppy for our ears. Took another four years to appreciate it and realise how good it is.

Yeah, it is an amazing, straight-forward Industrial Rock album with plenty of heaviness, edge and no fillers at all.
Also, you probably meant With_Teeth, Year Zero was the political, really noisy one.

ah yep, my mistake

It's cool.
In some ways, With_Teeth is sometimes my favourite album of his, it is the last album he made before his voice got kind of fucked for screaming, you can notice him hitting certain high notes which he would never hit ever again, which is a shame for me, Trent's screams were a pretty big part of what made his angry songs so primal

I've listened to Hesitation Marks, it didn't feel quite the same. I think the 80s production gives PHM something that the rest of NIN's albums don't have.

>getting triggered over a joke t-shirt

Visceral doesn't have to mean heavy you fucking brainlet.
I'm not even an NIN fan but stupidity like this pisses me off.

Besides, NIN has been and right now is pretty heavy.
