Seems like the people who used to take the time to discover new music and spread it have left for greener pastures. Yea Forums used to be upstream of places like r/indieheads and even RYM but now it seems like we just react to their opinions instead of forging our own

I realize that most people dont understand that most music is simply derivative from another older artist that did the exact same thing 50 years ago. And there is no reason to listen to the exact same garbage again when you could just listen to the original thing.

Exactly. Of course most music is somewhat derivative but modern music is extremely so. I appreciate truly experimental music that comes from pure creativity. Why the fuck would I listen to some mediocre music released recently when there is over 100 years of recorded music.
