user but I'm not sure how useful this machine is yet. These are really entry level artists after I posted a few that are a bit less popular. I've heard every single one of these albums bar maybe 5-10. Only one of the artists I posted makes rock music and almost all of your reccs are rock. I also got no classical music (schoenberg) or jazz (morgan). I think there is room for improvement. Maybe I posted artists who are too different? I don't know how machine learning works.

The algorithm tries to learn the taste for a set of reviewers of RYM, and the relationship between their favorite artists -> the ratings they give(music taste). My model tries to create a new "taste" from your favorite artists, runs all the albums through it, and returns the highest scores. Since RYM is very rock-focused, so is the program.

Thanks OP. It seems to me (though I might be wrong) that your model tends to overfit - it kinda always recommends the same thing without taking the inputs into account that much. Maybe you need to add some dropout layers to your neural network or shuffle the training/testing stuff.

Eh, I wouldn't say over-fitting is the issue - if anything, it's under-fitting (I was very careful to hold back significantly sized validation sets and closely monitored validation error). The variation among RYM reviewers just isn't that great, and learning those minute, subtle differences according to each one's favorite artists seems to be just a really hard task
