I'VE BEEN IN THIS TOWN
Now that the dust has settled, who actually ran the iron horse?
That was the first lyric that popped up into my head too
I'll never forget finishing Pet Sounds and thinking "wow that was good! Theres no way they can top this" then I heard Smiley Smile. Such good memories
you're under arrest!
Van Dyke
Bro, smiley smile is trash
90% of the bootlegged fan edits of smile are better
have you seen the grand coolie workin on the railroad
Imagine genuinely believing this. Without Smiley Smile there would be no Elephant 6 Recording Company.
So fucking what.
they're one of the progenitors of neo-psych, the best genre of music
Which version of this is the best? I'm put off by the incompleteness of the sessions but I can't help but prefer the rougher sounds and younger vocals
Make your own version out of the Sessions tapes. I did and it was very satisfying.
Soniclovenoise 1967 version
it's a good album, but why are smiley smile fans the most obnoxious faggots
it created indie and lo-fi music
I think Brian Wilson Presents Smile is better, just sounds more complete to me.
My dad is an oldfag who actually turned me onto the mythology behind Smile, which led me to become a Beach Boys fan. When I told him that Brian actually completed Smile in 2004 he listened to it and started crying. He was just really bummed all over again that it wasn't released on schedule I think
Smiley Smile and Song Cycle are both way better versions of this album
I still love 2004 Smile but it’s really hard to get past Brian’s old man voice.
The Beach Lads' influence on music really is incalculable. In terms of artists from the 60s at least without whom modern music would have been majorly different only the Beatles have an edge on them. Not even just Brian despite his reputation as the true genius of the group; it seems that Carl also accidentally invented shoegaze
Sunflower is superior to Smiley Smile and Wild honey, prove me wrong
What are some of the best edits of smile? Jootube kinda ruined the platform and copyright struck all the fan edits
I really liked the purplechick edit about 6 our more years back.
I've always had a pipe dream of Yea Forums coming together and covering SMiLE in it's entirety..
this album was amazing, why isn't it talked about more?
It honestly just freaks me out, I have a family history of mental illness and I imagine this is what losing your mind sounds like
It's looked at as the Final Cut of the Beach Boys chronology. Great album, but more or less a solo album featuring members of the singer's old band.
interesting take user, it was done arguably when brian was at his most fucked up health wise, i think an interview where brian said 1977 (the year the album was released) was the worst year of his life
but i think smile is more representative of brian's health issues, it was made just a few years after brian began hearing voices and there were tons of documented delusions around that time. brian thought a painting stole his soul and spector was putting subliminal messages in movies to mock brian. bruce johnston says he can't listen to smile's sessions or see any genius in it because it's uncomfortable, he saw smile as seeing brian's unmedicated mind degrade
