Holy shit this is great. Are her other albums this good?

The Dreaming is as good, but a totally different experience

kate's first five albums are essential listening

I actually prefer The Dreaming to Hounds of Love, there's not anything quite like it. I also want to plug Jane Siberry's The Walking while I'm at it, you'll like that too.

the kick inside is lovely. actually took me a while to warm up to her voice but i love it now

>plebs not mentioning Lionheart
Anyway, her only "bad" album is The Sensual World.

The Dreaming, The Kick Inside, Never for Ever, The Red Shoes, and Lionheart are 100% worth listening tp

The short answer is yes. Everyone has different favourites, all her albums bring a different mix of poppiness, concept, and Kate weirdness

I'm really partial to 50 words for snow and aerial which are a lot quieter and more personal, but all of her stuff is excellent

The Dreaming is a better record imo. There are more interesting musical ideas and great synths, mixing, and vocal filters

Kate Bush is an interesting one. She has a great voice and I like her experimental/unconventional style, but some of her stuff (mostly The Dreaming) I can barely stand to listen to. The Kick Inside, Hounds of Love, and The Sensual World are the ones I liked a lot. I also bought her The Whole Story compilation album just for the new Wuthering Heights vocals.

The Dreaming is her best album and not even all that experimental
Nothing compares to the Dreaming, TKI, and HOL but I don't find TSW to be all that bad, it has some good tracks on it like Love and Anger, the fog, and this woman's work

That's why I put bad in quotes. It's not flat out terrible but I definitely listen to it the least. The Red Shoes is pretty underrated.

Check out Don't Give Up and Games Without Frontiers, the songs she did with Peter Gabriel

Hounds of Love, The Dreaming, and Aerial are her best

Never for Ever is my 2nd favorite after HOL. It's got a lot of great instrumentals and I listen to Army Dreamers and Babooshka all the time. The Dreaming is very weird, I don't know how I feel about it. Specifically it has her strangest vocal performances. Making tons of sounds, screaming, braying like a donkey, etc. Very interesting though.

I sincerely think you mixed up the sensual world and the red shoes.
I'm certain of it.

and no self control

I'm not the person you're replying to but the red shoes is one of my fav kate albums and I love most of the songs on it, while a solid half of the tracks on the sensual world are pretty skippable (the only tracks I really love on it are the title track, deeper understanding, never be mine and this woman's work)

but I mean, everyone's different obviously. The important thing is kate is great

Yes, pretty much all of them are worth listening. But the essentials are:
The Dreaming, The Kick Inside, Aerial

The Kick Inside is her best IMO. Also Feel It is basically the musical equivalent of porn.

aerial is her best album

based Kate thread

YES
Kate is one of the few artists that dont have a bad album or even a mediocre one.
Never For Ever, The Kick Inside, and Aerial are 10/10s no questions asked.
Theres more debate regarding the rest The Dreaming and The Sensual World are pretty polarizing. Heres how I rank them.
>TKI - 10/10
>Lionheart - 9/10
>NfE - 10/10
>The Dreaming - 9.5/10
>HoL - 10/10
>TSW - 9/10
>The Red Shoes - 8/10
>Aerial - 10/10
>50 words - haven't dug into it yet

The vinyl remaster is the only one worth getting, it sounds SOOO much better. The rest of the reissues sound pretty much the same.

You can really tell that The Dreaming recording sessions where all over the place (it was pretty much the reason she built her own studio for HoL) so it kinda feels disjointed at times.
Never For Ever flows seamlessly from start to finish and is by far her best sounding album. It's cool that she produced everything herself later but no other album has the fidelity of NfE, every instrument sounds crystal clear and create layers upon layers that are gr8.
Probably the only one thats on par with it soundwise is Aerial, every song has like 10 different instruments and they all sound perfect. But for some reason her voice sounds muffled at parts. Singers usually have a hard time listening to their vocals while mixing and I'm afraid that's what happened there, she sang those songs better in Before The Dawn

If any of these are 10/10, it's the dreaming

The dreaming is one of the weirdest "pop" albums I've ever heard in my life. it makes me very sad when people compare her to Billie Ellish

I love The Dreaming as much as the next gay and it's the album that got me into her music. But production-wise it's probably her weakest (even if The Red Shoes has a lot of questionable choices) and even Kate said it's recording process was a nightmare.
All the songs are gr8, but it just doesn't "flow" as an album like the rest of her best stuff, you'll get what I mean eventually

Production-wise it's her most experimental and adventurous record. The vocal filters and mixing are superb. It's her best electronic work imo with TKI being her best traditional instrumental work. I understand what you're trying to say as far as the record not being a cohesive piece but I do not find that to be an issue here. Certainly it's doesn't all flow together like the B side of HOL but I find that all the tracks are strong, where there are some less than perfect tracks on her other records. Your last sentence is unnecessarily pretentious, I could understand such a tone if it was significantly worse in some regard but it's really not. The record is either just as good as her best or better.

>it makes me very sad when people compare her to Billie Ellish
Dont be sad user, literally every female pop star that is young and writes her own stuff gets compared with Kate Bush since the early 80s.
Same happened with Lorde a few years ago a Fionna Apple decades ago

Fiona Apple is actually good and Lorde's second record is decent

>Production-wise it's her most experimental and adventurous record
Aerial is just as experimental and adventurous, just that she used real instruments instead of the Fairlight. "Mrs Bartolozzi" is probably one of her craziest songs, but yet manages to sound really soft

>It's her best electronic work imo
Well, it IS the closest she's got to a purely electronic album, she milked that Fairlight CMI like there's no tomorrow

>Certainly it's doesn't all flow together like the B side of HOL
Never For Ever flows better than than all HoL combined, even the songs I hated (violin) made sense once I heard the whole thing on vinyl. TKI weakest point is the instrumental work, the backing band they gave her was utter-meh, luckily the songs are so good it didnt really matter at the end

>The record is either just as good as her best
No one said it wasn't, it's the one that got me and a lot of my friends into her music. But when you compare it to the rest of her work it's hard to call it her all time best like most ppl itt do, thats all

fuck everybody dissing The Sensual World that’s one of my personal favs.
it’s Bush perfectly executing a more ground HoL, and they make perfect companion pieces.

The Dreaming is also great, but don’t expect to instantly fall in love with it. it’s quirks and oddities are a definite peak in the discography and might disparage some on the first few initial listens, but there’s a lot to appreciate every time you come back to it

Guess being the first female artist to reach #1 with a song written by herself in her teens will inevitable lead to further comparisons.
It's not her fault

Agree, it has 1 weak track ("between a man and a woman") but the rest is perfect. Everyone always says "dont give up" is the song that got them through tough times. But for me it's "love and anger". One detail that few ppl noticed in that album is how well her voice harmonizes with Paddys, most of the choruses include both siblings and it's really hard to tell who is who, too bad Bertie didn't inherit his uncles vocal style.
Since I mentioned Bertie, will he ever leak his moms unrealeased songs from the last 10yrs? Considering "tawny moon" was an outtake from Aerial wonder how many more song are hidden in Kates vault

HoL is my favorite just because of the songwriting but it has the most questionable mix in my opinion.

What is this expression meant to convey?

Agree, side B is pretty even. You can tell it was mixed and mastered as 1 long track, but side A is pretty messy, specially noticable when comparing "running up that hill" with the rest, it sounds completely different if you listen to it on the original vinyl to the digital release or the reissue. And clearly it wasn't intentional, if it wasn't the album opener it would stick out like a sore thumb.

i hate when she screams or does nasty British accents, anything else is HEAVEN. i wish the fairlight cmi could manifest as a cock that i could suck all day and night long.

you just posted cringe bro

She's so pretty :)

my dick gets so hard when she screams like you dont understand.

It's called Shiina Ringo bud

Don't forget Tori Amos. She was literally labeled as the Kate Bush of the 90's.
