The record that lead me out of mainstream/indie
Probably this, this album goes many different ways at once: punk rock, aggressive noise rock, alternative metal, country, lounge - I was all over that shit.
very cringe i know but it's the truth, with out them i would not enjoy 90% of the albums i listen to today

Metallica - Master of Puppets
Used to chat shit about hip hop when I was growing up and only listened to metal.
Was going through some shit five years ago when I turned 20, asked my friend to recommend one hip hop album and he told me to listen to Illmatic.
One listen and I was totally converted and never looked back. Only really listen to metal now for nostalgia value and the instrumentals.
How is that even fucking possible? That albums sounds like literally nothing
Shoegaze opened up a floodgate for me

This, I used to only listened to rap and I assumed most good rock was boomer shit I've already heard my dad play constantly, Loveless made me realize there was still good relatively modern rock that I hadn't heard and it made me explore the rest

I love all Alice in Chains albums, even their new shit but this one has stuck with me through my life. Its shifting around from hard rock, sludge, and acoustic sounds hooked me with rock and metal.

probably this. Listening to this in high school was like a punch to the fucking face. It's just two literally whos banging out masterpieces in their mom's basement and it was fucking glorious.
I only listened to underground Hip-Hop and West Coast G-Funk before this album.
Ever since I've listened to this record I've tried to find anything that sounds as good as it. While that still hasn't happened I've listened to so many records I can't even relate to most of the people on here
also these!
